Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller Installed on 2014 Ram

Question:

I installed a Voyager brake controller with the 3023-p harness but the lights on the controller will not light up so I checked the signal from the brake switch and it has only about 1 volt coming out of it when the brake is pushed. All the lights on the truck work correctly. The only thing I did not try was hooking it up to a trailer but I had this controller in a 2011 ram 1500 but it did not have to be hooked to a trailer and I am pretty sure it had a lot more volts coming from the brake switch. Thanks.

The light on the Voyager will not illuminate unless there's a trailer connected, so go ahead and plug in the trailer. As for the stoplight switch wire, you're only going to get minimal voltage on that wire. The lead from the stoplight switch to the brake controller is simply telling the controller that the vehicle brakes are being applied, none of the voltage that's sent to the brakes is sent along that circuit.

The blue wire exiting the controller is the output circuit, so you should see about 12-volts on that wire with the gain on the controller turned all the way up and the manual brake switch actuated. Because the Voyager is a proportional controller, you won't get any output voltage from the controller unless the vehicle is moving or unless you actuate the manual brake switch.
