How to Change my Thule T2 Bike Rack from a 2-Inch to a 1/1/4 Inch Receiver for my 1998 Subaru Legacy

Im looking for a 2 inch trailor hitch for my 1998 Suburu Legacy Outback. I have a Thule T2 bike rack that mounts on my truck which has a 2 inch hitch. I want to use the same bike rack if possible on my car.

Since there isn't any 2-inch trailer hitch receivers that are a fit for your 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback, you could use the adapter such as # HTAD. Although there are adapters available, we typically don't recommend them because they reduce the TW capacity of the hitch by half.

If you don't have a hitch quite yet, the trailer hitch I recommend for your 1998 Subaru Legacy is the Class-II Curt # C12270. The maximum gross trailer weight is 3,500 pounds and maximum tongue weight is 300 pounds. When adding a receiver adapter like # HTAD, the tongue weight will drop to 175 pounds.
