Choosing Correct Ball Mount for 2014 Mercedes Benz GLK 250 BlueTec w/ Factory Hitch
Question:
hi there - first time tow shopper so please excuse my trivial question. I have a 2014 GLK 250 bluetec factory hitch option Q1 - is this the right part number? C45562 or C45572 Q2 - which is a better fit? thank you very much for your help.

I would imagine that Mercedes puts a Class III hitch on that vehicle as the factory option. You can confirm that by measuring the INSIDE dimension of the receiver opening. If it measures 2 by 2 inches, it's a Class III. If it's 1-1/4 by 1-1/4 inches, its a Class I or II. The sticker on the hitch should tell you which.
Both the ball mounts you mentioned could be used in a Class I or II hitch, as long as the capacity of the hitch or the ball mount isn't exceeded. If you have the Class III 2 inch hitch, we recommend the # C45010 ball mount. Use # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.
Ideally, you'll want to use a ball mount with the correct rise/drop so your trailer is towed level. If the trailer is out of level, it'll be more susceptible to trailer sway. I'll link you to an FAQ article that shows how to determine the rise/drop you need.
If you do have the 1-1/4 inch receiver, use whichever of the two ball mounts you referenced that would place the trailer closest to being level.
