Video Transcript for Rhino Rack Roof Rack Review - 2011 Ford Fusion

Speaker 1: Today on our 2011 Ford Fusion, we're going to be installing the Rhino Rack Roof Rack, part numbers RRVA-126B-2RRRLKVA, and DK149.While it looks great blacked out, it also comes in silver. These 49-inch crossbars are great for hauling multiple bikes, kayaks, cargo carriers, cargo baskets, and any other of your favorite accessories.Compared to other bars, these are going to be quieter. They've got this aerodynamic design. You can load up all kinds of accessories with T-slots. Most accessories accommodate aero bars so you can fit those as well.If security's one of your concerns, the end caps have locks on them. Ones that come with them are plastic. If you're looking for an upgrade, you can get some metal ones here at etrailer.com.For additional security, you've got locks on your footpads.

What's nice about this is it comes with four keys, and they're already metal, so there's no upgrades required. The custom hardware features a rubber footpad that contours to the roof. Keeping it secure and fitting your vehicle properly. The rubber won't cause any scratches on your roof. There's also a rubber strip on the inside of the clamp, so that way you have no scratching on the inside of your doorjamb. No, there are plenty of options out there to haul your cargo carriers or bike racks. However, some of the benefits of a roof rack over other options such as a hitch .. For instance, if you had a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier, in the event of a rear-end collision, your items would be ruined.

Up on the roof, they're safe from those collisions. You also have full access to your trunk, so now you can get easily get your items out, grab your gear out the back, close up the trunk, and your bike's on the roof. Whether or not you even use it that day, you can still get to the stuff in your trunk. As you can see, here in a garage situation where you don't have much room, you won't have to take your bike rack off, dismount, all that equipment especially on a cold day, pull right in, close your door, and you're good to go.No, there are some drawbacks to this versus your other options. It's a little bit harder to load your bike on top of the vehicle. However, this is a smaller vehicle, so it's not too much of an issue.Another issue could be pulling into your garage. If your bike is still mounted, you may not have the clearance, so you might have to take your bike off beforehand.A roof rack option does reduce your gas mileage slightly in comparison to other options. When looking at your options to carry your cargo or bike, this is one of the more simple solutions.

It's just a little more tedious to install. You have to be underneath the vehicle, and this just clamps right on.The crossbars feature a 165-pound weight capacity. Now, do make sure to check your vehicle's owner's manual to ensure you're not going to exceed the roof capacity. If you need further information on this, please see your local dealership. Our measurement from the top of the roof to the bottom of the aero bar is about three inches. As you can see here, your sunroof is still fully functional and doesn't come in contact with your roof rack. Now we'll give you a measurement so you can ensure your accessory won't contact your sunroof.

With the sunroof full open, it's about 2.5 inches from the sunroof to the bottom or your aero bar, and the distance between the roof and the bottom of the crossbar for your rear is going to be about three inches. The front overhang is going to be about four inches, and your rear-crossbar overhang is going to be about 2.5 inches. Here we have our front roof rack installed. Now, when installing your roof rack, one of the things you need to do is set the distance between the center of the footpad and the center of your pillar. Your front racks' going to rest at 7 and 7/8 inches. Now, we'll show you how to install the rear. The front install is just like the rear. We've got our aero bar here, our footpads, and our custom-fit hardware. To begin, we'll take our rubber pads and place them on our footpads. Notice the numbers on them, as there is a left and a right. The arrow should be pointing outward when it's installed. Just press those into place. Your ears will line right up, and do that with both footpads. Now, remove the black Allen screw from the side of the footpad. Place your custom-fit clamp in place, and put the screw back in. You don't need to tighten it all the way down because we'll be doing this in a later step.Do that with both footpads. Now, we'll slide our footpads onto the aero bar. That'll slide in using the flat washer there. The pad labeled 504 on the bottom is for your driver's side, and the one labeled 503 is for your passenger side. Slide both of those on.Next, you'll set the distance of your footpad on the rail. From the inner edge of the rail opening to the footpad, it should be 175 millimeters, which is roughly 6.9 inches. Do that on both sides.Once you've got your measurements set, go ahead and tighten down your footpads to your aero bars. You'll tighten this until your included tool becomes straight. This means it's at the proper torque. Now, we'll set our crossbar onto our vehicle and line up the footpads. Now that your aero bar is in place, you'll want to set the distance between the two. Measure from the center of the front footpad to the center of the rear, and they should be about 27 and 9/16ths inches.Once you've got it set in place, go ahead and tighten it down. You'll want to do a little bit on one side, and then do the other side, tightening it down evenly. With everything in place, we can put our covers back on and lock them down. Do that on both sides. With everything in place, we're ready to load up our favorite accessories and hit the road. That completes our installation of the Rhino Rack Roof Rack on our 2011 Ford Fusion.

Perfect purchase! The roof rack was shipped to the house lightning fast, fits the car perfectly, looks great, and my son loves it! Thanks to etrailer for a hassle free experience. A+++

Wonderful! Thanks again!

I have on this product for over a year now and after installing it on the roof of my car, I haven’t had to touch it. I’ve put this rack through the ringer in what I’ve at the times idiotically strapped to it, from full sheets of drywall, 200 pounds of siding and numerous other construction projects, this rack has come in clutch. I have also used this for more of what it’s designed for in carrying my surfboard, Wakeboard, and other sporting equipment never having to worry about it once. The only downside is that it does create more wind noise. But it’s not that noticeable. If this is a concern just upgrade to the aero bars!

by:

The roof racks fit the car perfectly and the J racks for our kayaks attached to it quite nicely very pleased with the purchase and the company . I will do business with etrailer again

by:

The product was easy to install and fits great on the vehicle. The instructions were easy to follow though generic in nature. The vehicle specific directions and specifications were not included. I had to contact etrailer via email. They responded immediately and provided me with the necessary information. Their customer service is outstanding. I will use etrailer again for my automotive accessory needs.

Ease of order, receipt, installation and excellent customer service is what I received in this order.
Thank you, e-trailer!

Takes a little while to assemble the rack bars.
The stickers are great I can mark the positions after measuring the distance between the bars.
One of the screws is underneath the bar; it is hard to reach to tighten the bars.
Finally, I got the roof rack installed and it looks good.

by:

Just followed all the etrailer website prompts for my naked roof Toyota Matrix and it set me up with the three packages needed- rails legs and fitkit. Installed easily enough. I like the little arrow stickers hidden in the door jams for fast re-install later. Held two 10’ kayaks on a 2 hr journey with ease.

by:

Pretty nice rack system. Held up to my 90lb canoe no problem. However a piece did fly off on the highway and the "locking" bar end cap can pull off super easy.
The directions were ok. There is some stuff you have to kind of figure out for yourself, mainly the roof trim. I plan to leave the rack on so I drilled theough the trim

by:

This is a perfect fit for our 2015 Prius V with "naked" roof. Instructions were clear and accurate, and the bars are solid and able to support our canoe and kayak easily. We added the air deflector, as there was a bit of wind noise, but now there is none. Great product at much lower price than the big names.

by:

Absolutely love the Rhino Rack. Easy to install (watch the [online] video). Looks GREAT. Hauls my kayaks no problem. Very well made and I highly recommend this product.

The Rhino 2500 series is well built. The etrailer customer service person Trevor W. was great. He was so helpful in getting the right components for my Rhino 2500 roof rack to mount to my 2010 Silverado. Thanks for the help Trevor.

This was the kit for my 2020 equinox. The spacing of the feet on the vortex aero bars was incorrect I had to use the Euro sizes. Went back and forth with customer service trying to get confirmation that was the right size but it never was confirmed. Everything is installed now and sturdy.

by:

Seemed to work well with my 2012 Kia Soul. I have only had it on my car for a day at writing this so I can't really give it five stars. I would bump it up to five stars once its been on for a few months. Easy to install, and after doing a bit of research Etrailer.com Had the best deal, and support for installation.

by:

Installed this and 65" Vortex Areo crossbars on a 2015 RAM 5500 chassis cab/crew cab. It is listed to fit 1500 to 3500 RAM's and neither Rhino-Rack or etrailer would confirm it would fit the 5500. My research suggested there was not much, if any difference, between the 3500 and 5500 crew cab, so ordered it any way. Installation was relatively easy, fit seemed to be good and have made multiple 200-300 mile trips with a 75lb kayak. Good price, great customer service and fast delivery through etrailer.

by:

Customer support was great. After reading the instructions and watching the video on how to install the Rhino Rack installation went well. The ski rack has one draw back, if you leave car out over night with skis locked in the ski rack, every thing can be easily stolen. All you need is an Allen wrench to remove the ski rack with the skis. The roof rack has locking covers the prevent theft of the roof rack. The ski rack can be easily removed from the roof rack.

All items ordered were as described wind were easy to install . The shipping was less than stellar . Tforce sat on the items for 3 business days before finally calling . No tracking was provided for tforce till I called in to etrailer questioning why shipment went from ups to T FORCE . Driver from t force claimed he could not get into address location per length of his trailer . Had to meet driver at another address . Came back to original delivery address and fed ex freight was sitting in parking lot just fine ( had same size trailer as TFORCE ) . Tforce Driver was basically being lazy by not coming to original address . Hope etrailer changes shipping companies

by:

The roof rack is great, just pretty pricy, by me standards.
My only problem with the whole experience was that the roof rack comes in there separate packages. In my order, one package was omitted, which created some confusion. I had to go back to the company and request that the 3rd package be sent.
Otherwise I'm happy with the purchase.
I responded to a previous request fro feedback, so I'm not sure why I'm being asked again, but . . .

by:

Easy assembly and installation. Pay careful attention to pad direction as shown in instruction sheet for the fit kit. One gripe: one end-cap refuses to lock (blue plastic key lock). Had to tape it on so I don’t lose it.

This review covers the Rhino Rack 2500 Vortex Aero crossbars and associated parts (DK284, RRRLKVA, RRVA137S-2) for a naked roof installation on a 2018 Honda CR-V.

Very solid racks. We just took our first trip using them and the didn't budge. As recommended, a few days after installing, I tightened the bolts a bit. I'm not sure they needed it--just a little insurance.

The installation process was clear, but fairly detailed. It would be easy to miss a step, so take your time. Also, I tried a couple shortcuts in the order when installing on the car, but had to back track. So, go in the order they give you.

The racks easily supported our filled "pod" and a couple surfboards, strapped side-by-side. Sorry, no photos of the rack loaded. One thing to watch out for is that our old Thule pod almost didn't fit because of the thickness of the racks. I had to loosen the bolts almost entirely.

Of note: I feel that although I followed the measurements to the millimeter, the fit on our 2018 Honda CR-V wasn't exact. Where the pads sit on the roof of the car didn't align perfectly. I could have adjusted this by just re-trimming the rubber pads that go in the channels, but it's not a big deal, so I just left it.

Finally, I do have one concern. The angle of final installation doesn't really protect the racks from theft very well. The plastic plate that locks over the screw would allow someone with the proper tool to get up under it and loosen the bolts. That being said, someone so inclined could also just break the little plastic door or drill a hole in it to access the bolt. So, I guess it's just a deterrent anyway.

Overall, I'm very happy with the racks and etrailer.com! Despite shipping delays due to Covid-19, they were able to get the racks to me in time for an upcoming trip. I did choose to expedite shipping, but the cost was very reasonable.

We originally got this rack system (Custom DK Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Legs - Naked Roof Item #DK427) mostly for our Kayak racks on our 2015 Ford F-150, which worked great. Then we totaled our F-150 and the racks actually fit on our new 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 HD P/U. We took it on a 16,000 mile trip from the East Coast to Alaska with both 12 ft. kayaks on the top. Through the various speeds (sometimes up to 80 mph), weather conditions, and the high crosswinds of the mid-West, the racks help up perfectly. No issues or problems. I would recommend these to anyone.

by:

I bought the roof rack to carry kayaks back and forth from Pennsylvania to Florida. The rack is solid and performs that task very well. My plan was to take the rack off and on but I decided to just leave it on. I do notice some wind noise since I've added the rack but it does not distract me and I would say that it is not excessive but it is noticeable.
I did have problems during the installation. I mounted the racks on a Ford 250 super duty. And the instructions were very clear as to where the feet that's support the rack where to be installed. Plastic strips are cut and the feet that support the rack on the roof push up to the cut plastic strips and that is what determines placement. I read the instructions several times and had seen an installation on another truck owned by a friend of mine. When I pushed the feet to the proper position I could not attached the clamps from the rack feet to the rain gutter on the truck which holds the whole assembly on the roof. They were too short. I spoke to Etrailer and a consensus was that I had cut the strips correctly. Etrailer's input of course was over the phone and they could not actually see or measure anything that I did. Nevertheless, in order to install the rack I had to move the feet on each side a bit closer to the rain gutter on the truck. I did not think that this would make any difference and based on the performance I have not noticed any problems. I would have given this product and excellent rating if I did not have to deal with the little problem that I had with the fit. As I said I have not taken it off the roof and I reach up and check it now and then and it's as solid as the day I put it on.

  • Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Clamp Kit Installation Instructions for a 2010 Ford Fusion
So it is referring to the instructions for the custom clamp kit # DK149. I am not sure why they are missing but I can explain it for you. First on the front crossbar pads the arrows should be pointed out away from the vehicle. The strip length measurement is 27mm per side. The foot plate arrows should also be pointed out. On the rear crossbar the arrows on the pads and plates will face out as well. The strip length measurement per side is 62mm per side. To place the pads in the correct...

Yes the Thule Hull-A-Port part # TH849000 that you referenced will fit in the top channels of a Rhino Rack Vortex Aero bar like the rack that fits your 2010 Ford Fusion part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK149. This would be a really great roof rack and kayak carrier combo so I'd say this is a really great choice.

Generally speaking, if a vehicle has a rear spoiler, it will be difficult to mount a trunk mounted bike rack. Our Fit Guide does not show a fit for your vehicle for any trunk mounted bike rack.
