Your Jeep's side latches are great for keeping the hood shut, but they don't lock. This BOLT (Breakthrough One-key Lock Technology) hood lock for Jeep JL puts a formidable obstacle in the path of a thief. It installs easily behind your Jeep's grill using the existing rivet holes. It gives your Jeep an additional latch in case you forget to close the side latches, and helps to prevent hood flutter for a quieter ride.
Are you tired of carrying a bulky ring of keys - for your hitch lock and coupler lock, your pickup cover or trailer door, and all the various padlocks securing your equipment? Tired of fumbling for the right key or having to replace a lost key?
BOLT has solved that problem by designing a line of locks that can operate with a key you already have handy - your vehicle ignition key.
When you insert your own key into the cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key. When the key is removed, the cylinder moves into the locked position. When the key is turned again, it will rotate to the unlocked position.

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're going to be taking a quick look at the bolt hood lock. This is going to help to keep any kind of components in your hood, or in your engine bay, safe from any kind of tampering or any kind of theft. So it's going to keep everything nice and secure there. It does come with a replacement grill plate, so it has a nice, attractive look, and it looks like it came from the factory. And this is intended for the Jeep JL or the Jeep Wrangler from about 2018 onward.
So if you have that Jeep, it should have a key that has the center cut in that design. You can see a description of that or a picture of that on our product page here at eachtrailer.com for a little bit better view of it.So this is going to be the actual unit itself. It's going to be this piece here, it's put into a metal housing so it's really nice and sturdy, and it does feature that bolt lock. The nice thing about that is that it codes to your ignition key. So you want to make sure that you use the key that you're going to be using all the time, and don't put any other kind of key into there because it will be coded and there is no way to replace it.
There's no way to recode it, once it is coded, it is coded to that key forever. So make sure that you keep that in mind, use the key that you intend to use with this at all times. It should be a pretty straightforward install. You do have to take out that grill insert that's in your Jeep and replace it with this one. It should look pretty much the same.The only difference is that this one has a little dedicated spot for that bolt lock to show through.
I know this is all kind of black on black, so it's a little hard to see, but whenever it's mounted it will be centered in there nicely so you can get access to it. And again, so that it looks factory installed. It comes with the hardware to do that. So we'll get some pushpin fasteners for attaching that grill insert, and then also some metal rivets. So you will need a rivet gun and most likely a screwdriver.
The instructions here do have a list of the hardware or the tools that you'll need. So they'll need a Torx T20 screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver, and again, a rivet gun. So nothing too terribly difficult to get in place, should be pretty, again, straightforward to get that put into your Jeep.As far as the size of this piece, for this addition it's about five inches wide, about two and a half inches deep, and about five inches tall. Weighs about a pound, it is covered by a limited lifetime warranty and should be a nice addition to your vehicle, again to protect those components in your engine and make sure that nobody can get under your hood and mess around with it.Well, I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right piece for you. Installs to existing rivet holes with included hardware.Easy to follow instructions, easy to install. No hiccups. A few minor points:
1. Box shows a small rivet tool. You need a large one. $[XX] at Harbor Freight will get you what you need (see picture).
2. Box says you just need a Phillips screwdriver. Nope - you need a #20 Torx bit (as per the written instructions inside the box). You can't own a Jeep TJ or newer and not own a set of Torx bits.
3. The lock cover is a little on the large side. Not good or bad, it just is. Maybe a visual passive theft deterrent?

VERY EASY TO INSTALL,THEY EVEN SEND EXTRA CLIPS and a GRILL you can't beat this deal.The instructions are very clear with pictures and let you know, if you need support the offer it to you all the way if you call them. Perfect for my needs, this and the factory alarm is more than enough of a deterrent.
Needed to purchase a rivet gun large enough for 1/4 inch rivets, an extra $xx to the total price.
EZ-PZ mage certain you have an "industrial-strength" pop-rivet tool. Harbor Freight has a cheap, but effective one.
Works as advertised.
Secures the JL Wrangler hood so only the key holder can access the engine compartment.
Easy to key the BOLT lock to the vehicle’s factory key.
Medium effort to remove the front grill to access the frame under the hood.
Medium effort to install the locking mechanism onto the vehicle frame under the hood.
Retains use of the factory side latches.
I am satisfied with the purchase. I would buy another BOLT product.
Ordering from an unknown site can be unnerving. but I love Bolt products. I found this item when it was no longer on the manufacturer's web site. Additionally it was less expensive than what was previously offered from the manufacturer. The shipping was quick and Customer Service/Tracking was top notch. I will order future needs from etrailer.com going forward.
4XE if you want toi use this insert you will need to remove 2 of the tabs preventing it to mounmt properly. just cut them off you dont really need them after that it goes on just Fine. It is the 2 areas bumps where the clip would catch between the upper torx screws.
My lock is great it is everything as advertised I’m very happy with it
