2009 Chevrolet Express Van

Arrived super fast.
Very well-made.
Looks
great. Shiny black.
All 6 bolt holes lined up with the predrilled holes in the van.
I used blue thread locker on the bolts, for extra security.
Installed on my 2009 Chevrolet Express 1500G full size cargo van, repurposed as our travel van. 30k miles in 2 years.
It was time to add towing capability. Bought the class 4 10,000 lb. model

I bought a 2 frame trailer hitch a year ago. I installed it using blue, medium thread locker on the bolts. We just recently took a road trip and attached a rear platform carrier on the hitch for the trip. The hitch performed perfectly, is strong as heck and the finish has remained perfect with no rusting.

by:

So the hitch went up super easy. It could be easier with say, two people but I was pigheaded. Just me...and a dozen super sized zip ties. All went well to final tightening. 4 camping weekends later each bolt took minor crank down. 6 mos later bolt still tight. This Fall I may take down and repaint to protect from rust. Michigan.

by:

Hitch arrived promptly and it is of high quality. Installation was really easy, pre-drilled holes fit with the frame of my 2020 Chevy Express 3500 passenger van.
I didn't lift the van in order to attach it, and since I did the installation by myself, I found a creative way to lift the hitch to the van. See attached pictures :)

2016 Chevrolet Express Van

My wife and I pull trailers on a regular basis. We put a lot of miles on this hitch on all types of weather. It’s held up well under harsh conditions.
I would definitely buy another one, in fact, I did.

2017 GMC Savana Van

Nice looking heavy duty hitch, rated better than the van is rated for. My only real issue was, like others have said, the plates that go in the frame are too small to prevent the bolts from turning while tightening. I had 1 or 2 that torqued all the way, the others I had to hit with with an impact. Oh, just realized my pic shows a plastic plug in the hitch, that's not included, just one that I had laying around so I popped it in.

by:
2011 Chevrolet Express Van

I have purchased other Curt products before and all have fit exactly as described. Construction is high quality and accuracy/fitment is great. This hitch is downright simple to install using 6 bolts and no drilling. If you have any experience at all I expect you could install this alone in 30 minutes with not much more than a 3/4" wrench. I find it a great value, price being so economical that I canot even justify building one myself, being a full time fabricator, I could easily have done so.

by:

Nice. Nice. I feel comfortable towing the limits of this hitch (although I only need 1/4 of its rating

by:

Mounted up with no issues whatsoever and the etrailer.com installation videos helped tremendously. Very clean install.

by:
2010 Chevrolet Express Van

Hitch was really easy to install; no drilling required.

You will need an impact wrench because the rectangular washers will spin.

by:
2008 Chevrolet Express Van

Very easy to install, only took me about 15 minutes. I have never installed a hitch before and almost paid [retailer] $290 for one. After watching some videos on the install, I am glad I decided to do it myself.

by:

I am not the most handy with tools and installation was a breeze. I borrowed a torque wrench to make sure that everything was appropriately tight and had the entire hitch on in 35 min.

2018 Toyota T100 Pickup

Shipped on time as promised, one hole was in box but everything was there. All instructions and hardware were supplied. Installed in about one hour by myself (age 64). Instructions were complete with no surprises. This was my second Curt hitch (also Toyota T100 Pick-up, approximately 5 years old). I have used the 14090 hitch multiple times including to tow a car on tow dolly for 5-1/2 hours and a 7500 lb trailer approx. 18 hours and have had no problems. I would definitely recommend Curt and E-Trailer to friends and family.

The hitch is great. In march I purchased a double axle utility trailer, 7000 lbs gross and have used multiple times hauling farm fencing supplies, wire, posts, tractor equipment and coal with no problems. Also borrowed my sisters closed utility trailer and went from far east TN to Zion National park,Utah and back in July and have had no problems. It is a very nice addition to our custom GMC Glaval van. Also got a bike rack from my other sister which allows me to open the back doors, an added blessing. I use this hitch far more than I ever thought. A worth while investment.

2008 GMC Savana Van

The hitch arrived very quickly and it was well packaged. After removing it from the box, there were a few spots where the finish had chipped on the edges. The installation was easy and straight forward. I did have to remove my existing hitch so that took a bit of time. Another reviewer made comments about the square hole spacers not being long enough. They certainly could be longer, but I had no issues with the installation. I will say the hitch included 6 bolts, spacers and nuts, but is drilled with 8 holes, 4 per side. The two rearward holes on both sides lined up perfectly. The two forward holes do not line up with the existing holes in the frame and the instructions have you use only the most rearward of the forward holes which to line up. This works, but why provide a hitch with 8 holes drilled with two holes not in the right location and only 6 sets of hardware? Part of the reason I bought this hitch is because of the 8 holes. I believe either this hitch should be modified to fit all 8 holes and and include 8 sets of hardware, or the extra 2 holes should be removed.

Chris

The hitch held up well over the winter and the finish got chewed up on the forward edge of the crossmember last summer. I did a few thousand miles on dirtgravel. The finish as mentioned is chipped badly now. I coated it in plastidip. Well see how it holds up.

VERY EASY INSTALLATION. ..THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PROMPT DELIVERY.

by:

The Curt hitch receiver was easy to install. Instruction that were included were easy to follow. All predrilled holes aligned making a one person install very simple. It took me 45 minutes to complete the install. Construction of the Curt hitch receiver seems to be very well made and of heavy gage steel. I am very pleased with this product. I will be using the curt receiver hitch in my business to pull an eight foot box trailer or a sixteen foot flat bed trailer.

The Curt receiver hitch is working well. Product is well made with strong welds.

by:
2011 Chevrolet Express-Van

This hitch installation was very simple and it fit the existing holes perfectly. Actually took us longer to set up, find the right size socket and clean up than the actual setting the 6 bolts and tightening. I have added a before and after of our new hitch. Thanks for making it so easy. Now we are ready to tow stuff.

Chevrolet Silverado 3500

My Chevy Express is a 3500 series so I needed a Class IV hitch to tow heavier loads. This hitch weighs just under 50 lbs and was almost too easy to install. Save yourself the money and install this yourself. Curt is known for manufacturing solid well built hitches. You can't go wrong with this hitch!

Jeremy P.

7/29/2016

One year later and the hitch is as solid as ever and performs as expected on both light and heavy loads.

by:

The hitch arrived promptly, in good condition and was easy to install! We also got the wiring harness which was also so easy to install and get our storage rack lights up and running. Thanks!

2018 Chevrolet Express Van

2018 Express cargo. Easy install. I didn't give it 5 stars because the spacer wasn't long enough to keep the carriage bolt from spinning. I easily overcame that by wedging a piece of mild steel to catch the spacer while torqueing the nut. I used a floor jack with a 2x4 to jack it into place as I did the job by myself. Next its the wiring which looks easy as well.

Kenneth

I felt it went on too easy so I had a reputable Hitch shop look at it. For piece of mind I had them throw some welds on it. As they were working on mine I saw them install a receiver on another vehicle and all they did was bolt it up. I guess mine is beefier than most.

by:

Our church van needed a receiver hitch so we could use a cargo rack or pull a small trailer. This one was a perfect fit and quick to install.

Excellent just as advertised received curt class lV and wiring # 118392 via UPS had it all installed in just over an hour

by:

Great hitch,fit perfect,

by:

I don't know why anyone pays to have these installed, 4 bolts in easy to access location secures it. Make sure you use a torque wrench or hit it with an impact though, you don't want this to be loose!

Chevy Express

On the positive side, the workmanship of the Curt hitch is flawless, and it fits my vehicle perfectly.

On the negative side, I wasn't entirely impressed with the installation kit. As a manufacturer, it's probably not possible to cover every possible contingency the end user might encounter during installation, so maybe it is a little unfair to expect no trouble. Nevertheless, I was a little bit surprised when the "square hole spacers" included in the Curt installation kit, those 1/4" x 1.5" x 2" stamped steel deals that receive the carriage bolts, and whose dimensions are calculated such that the spinning spacer will interfere with the vehicle's frame webs (the vertical part of the frame cross section) enabling the installer to tighten the flange nuts without having to get a wrench on the bolt, were 1/4" too short and, you guessed it, spun! I guess the idea is that it should be easier for the installer to use the carriage bolt / square hole spacers than it would be to get a wrench onto a standard hex bolt. Of course, the spacer would have to be long enough to prevent the carriage bolt from spinning. Oh well, I was able to jamb a piece of steel in the gap between the frame web and the spacer and eventually get all six flange nuts / bolts tightened.

The powder coating, under load from the the serrated bases of the flange nuts, peeled immediately. I have a nice new Chevy Express van, and I'm sure that the first rust stains on my driveway will be from the now-bare metal around the six mounting points.

Oh well, maybe I'm fooling myself. I guess I would rather have an installation that I never had to recheck, never had to re-torque the bolts, and never had to worry about my hitch falling loose and my trailer passing me up at the next 4-way stop. If a little rust shows up on my driveway three years from now, so be it.

Good product, and I would buy it again. But for a couple of extra bucks for higher quality powder coating, and a little more attention to the installation kit, Curt would have a first class product.

Since it sounds like you'll be towing with your Van, you'll need some other items to complete your towing system. For a trailer wiring harness, you'd begin with a # 118392 4 pole trailer connector.
