Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove some interior trim or carpeting to access the harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead with the attached fuse holder to the car battery. Connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118594 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 118594. This is the T-1 vehicle wiring harness with the four pull flat trailer connector. This product is going to fit certain years of the Kia Forte. It's going to provide a four-way flat connector at the back of the vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with five pull, six pull, and seven pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately.

But it does come with a dust cap, that way you can cover up the connection points when the plug is not being used. The black box on the unit is going to be the included module light. This is going to ensure that the vehicle's wiring matches that of the trailer's. Powered module is going to connect directly to the vehicle battery to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. The overall unit is designed to connect quickly and easily, all you have to do locate the connection points in the trunk of the vehicle. You're going to have two sets of connectors. You're going to have one set that has green wire going to it ...

That's going to go to the passenger side of the vehicle. And then you're going to have one set that has yellow wire going to it and that's going to go to the driver side of the vehicle. Custom fit vehicle wiring harness so the plugs are going to match up perfectly with the plugs on the vehicle. Push them together, they're going to snap-lock together for a nice tight secure fit. So, once you have those plugged in you'll need to make your ground connection. That's going to be your white wire with the ring terminal attached to it.

It does come with a self-tapping screw that way you can get that grounded on a nice clean metal surface. And then you're going to need to mount the converter box. The converter box has a flat back on it, that way you can use the provided double-sided adhesive tape to get it mounted to a nice clean out of the way location. Its also got a mounting tab right here so you could use another screw . With this kit you're only going to get one screw for your ground connection, but you can throw in another one there and get that mounted with a screw, or you can use a zip tie, or a couple zip ties to get it secured. So, a couple different options when it comes to getting this mounted but in the instructions it is going to say to use the double-sided adhesive tape that is provided with the kit. Once you get that done, you can run the hot lead to the vehicle battery.

The hot lead is going to be the red wire coming out of the module light box. It's going to get connected to the bundle of black wire with one of the included butt connectors. The other end of the black wire goes to the vehicle battery, gets another butt connector attached to it, and attaches to one half of the fuse holder. The other half of the fuse holder gets a ring terminal attached to it and that gets connected to the positive post on the vehicle battery. It does come with your ten amp fuse, and its got a fuse cap for the fuse holder to keep it protected. Once your installation is complete, or once you have everything connected, you're going to need to use the remaining zip ties to secure any excess or slack in your wiring. When you're all the way done, the four-way connectors are going to be stowed within the trunk of the vehicle when it's not being used. It does come with detailed instructions. Those are going to walk you through your installation process step-by-step. The maximum ampage for the stop and turn lights, 2.1 amps per circuit, and for the tail lights, 5.6 amps per circuit. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease in all of your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pull connector itself. That's going to help prevent corrosion from settling into those connection points. If you need some of that grease you can find it right here on our website. It is sold separately, but again you can pick it up at etrailer.com. That's going to do it for today's look at part number 118594.

The harness is easy to install. The worst part is running a hot wire to the battery. Ive had to email etrailer twice and have gotten a response both times with answers to my questions. I would definitely buy from them again.

2014 Kia Forte

When Etrailer told me that this wire harness would fit my 2014 Kia Forte sedan, they weren't kidding. This wire harness and module just plugged right into the car's wire harness as advertised.

Just unplug the light connectors and plug the T-connectors in between. Ran the ground wire to my trunk latch and that was the end of the easy stuff. The wire harness came with a separate roll of heavy duty wire for the power feed, that was long enough to go from my trunk, to past my front bumper. It came with all the connectors you will need to complete the install, and several wire ties. Plus it comes with an inline fuse holder with the right fuse. I actually had to cut off about 2 feet of wire before hooking it up to the battery.

All in all, the total time to install the wire harness was about 2 1/2 hours since I had to remove the reinstall the trunk liner..

With all that said, it was really an easy install. You just have to plan out what route you will use for the hot wire..

I assumed buying the vehicle specific harness with clips would make installation easy but running a single wire from the battery all the way back to the harness has made it not so.

  • Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver and 4-Way Flat Wiring Compatibility For a 2018 Kia Forte
The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24903 that fits your 2018 Kia Forte, has a weight capacity rating of 200lbs for the tongue weight and 2,000lbs for trailer towing from Draw-Tite. Per your owners manual, your Forte is not recommended for trailer towing, so if you were to tow a trailer with your Forte you would be liable for any damage that may be caused to your Forte. I would also have to recommend not trailer towing with your Forte unless you can get the okay from Kia with...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendations for a 2014 Kia Forte
The owner's manual for your 2014 Kia Forte EX only states that they do not recommend towing a trailer. It doesn't say you can't but it also doesn't give any capacity information. But given that the weight of your trailer is all of 400 to 500 pounds even your small car would be fine towing it. With Curt trailer hitch # C11368 installed the top of the receiver opening will be about 1 inch or so below the bottom of the rear fascia. Measure up from the ground to a point about 1 inch below...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Towing Small Trailer with 2017 Kia Forte
A small trailer to move your scooter with your 2017 Kia Forte is the best option. A 700 lb trailer is well below the capacities of the Draw Tite hitch part # 24903 that fits your vehicle. You'll also need a ball mount part # 3594 and a hitch ball # 19256. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 118594.
