When you think of a fifth-wheel hitch, you probably think of a cumbersome, heavy-duty piece of equipment that sits in your truck bed and stays there because of the tremendous effort it takes to remove it. Well, the Curt CrossWing offers the same rugged performance and heavy-duty hauling power that you'd expect from a fifth-wheel hitch, but it's lightweight enough to be easily moved in and out of your truck. This hitch weighs just 60 lbs, which is 65-percent lighter than a standard hitch. But while it may be lightweight, no sacrifices were made in the quality of its construction. The CrossWing features premium steel and a reinforced head connection point that offers superior strength and reliability for towing loads up to 20,000 lbs.
If you've ever towed a 5th-wheel trailer, you know that the coupling process can be a hassle because of the precision required to ensure a proper connection. You have to painstakingly guide the hitch's pincer-like jaws around a small, cylindrical king pin, which is easier said than done. Coupling can be such a finicky process, that some 5th-wheel hitches even use a color-coded indicator to alert you when you're properly connected.
An improper connection can result in high pinning, which is when the king pin on the trailer looks like it's in the jaws, but it's actually sitting higher than the fifth-wheel hitch. With the CrossWing, high pinning and finicky coupling are things of the past.
This is thanks to the wedge-shaped coupler piece that bolts around your trailer's king pin and remains there, separate from the hitch base. Not only does this further cut down on the weight of the hitch, but it also ensures that you don't get the rattling that occurs when a king pin sits inside of the jaws on a traditional hitch.
When hooking up with the Curt CrossWing you can clearly see when the bolted-on pin box coupler is in place in the hitch base head from the comfort of your truck cab. The contact point of the head is a large, open-faced funnel that makes it easy to guide the coupler into place as you back into it. This funnel-shaped head also allows for fore, aft, and lateral articulation, so you can easily hitch up on uneven terrain.
This already simplified process of coupling with the Curt CrossWing is made even easier when paired with a 3rd-brake-light backup camera. The positioning of the CrossWing and the angle of its head lines up perfectly with this type of backup camera, allowing you to watch the coupler as it glides into place. Once the pin box coupler is nestled within the head channel, all you have to do is lock it into place with the easy-to-reach, ergonomic handle.
The CrossWing features Curt's innovative ShockDrop technology, which is engineered to suppress jerking, jarring, and chucking while you're towing. This durable, polyurethane material sits at the pivot point of the hitch head and absorbs excess shock so that it doesn't transfer from the truck to your trailer or vice versa. The result is increased control and comfort as you tow, as well as less wear and tear on your towing setup.

I just picked up my 5th wheel and my older 2005 dodge 2500 (8' bed) truck was a hard to find a good fit. I completely recommend this hitch. It has enough adjustments for my truck to tow my 5th wheel level and never once did I have to worry about the truck bed or my back window as this keeps everything up and away. To hook it up was just as easy as I could see everything just like the video shows. Very happy with this purchase.
I recently switched to the Crosswing from a Curt Q16 slider hitch. I loved the Q16 other than the weight of it. My loaded trailer weight is around 11,500 pounds. The Crosswing is a very stout hitch, and is extremely easy to hitch and unhitch, even at slight angles. While towing, I have noticed that it is quieter than the Q16 and chucking was nearly eliminated. I have to make a fairly tight turn in my Cul-de-sac, especially if there are cars parked on the street which I always slid the Q16 back while turning. I was worried about this but had no problem making the turn. The truck and trailer were close to a 90 degree angle and I still had over 6 inches between the cab and the front cap (2019 Silverado 2500HD short bed). I would definitely recommend this hitch.
2012 ram 3500 mega cab short bed! Well from all the reviews I’ve read, and the video, I gathered about 5-6 hours to install by myself, which was very accurate, directions say 90 min instal, not! It was the 5-6 hour range, regardless it went in as the directions and video said! Take your time measure it out double check everything, the kit is great, follow directions and watch the video you can do it in your driveway!
Great Hitch. Easy to install and frees up a lot of bed space compared to the Pullrite Superglide hitch that I used in the past. Towing a 5th wheel trailer with a short bed truck is no problem with this hitch. The pivot point of the 5th wheel trailer is offset 5 inches behind the rear axle, but the king pin weigh is still directly over the axle. Plenty of clearance between the back of the truck cab and front of trailer during tight turns. The hitch is easy to remove from truck bed when extra space is needed for hauling cargo. The hitch is lite enough so that one person can easily remove and install the hitch. I highly recommend this hitch.
Completely Disappointed in the Curt CrossWing Lightweight Fifth Wheel Hitch. I have been pulling Fifth Wheels for 15 years and have never experienced such a rough ride with any of my rigs. I received my Hitch on May 15th, 2024, just in time for an already planned 140-mile Memorial Day trip over roads that I have driven many times. This trip about jarred our teeth out it was so rough. Like I mentioned I have pulled our trailer over these same roads several times without issue with any of my rigs.
I'm currently pulling a 35' Fifth Wheel with a 2024 Chevrolet 3500 HD Dully with a eight-foot bed. The Reese Hitch I have (purchased from etrailer) been using was starting to have some issues and is heavy making installation and removal a pain for an older guy. The CrossWing looked like the idea hitch for our rig. I do like that the hitch is light weight enough to manhandle, and it's a breeze hooking up the trailer. Sacrificing ride for weight and ease of connecting the trailer is not worth $[XX].
I discussed how bad the CrossWing made my ride with a Mechanical Engineer friend that works in the automative truck group for a major oil field service company. He suspects that the Five Inch Offset to the rear of the center axel is what is contributing to the rough ride. It's like bouncing on one end of a seesaw and making it rough for someone on the either side of the seesaw. If the weight were put five inches in front of the center of axel the ride would actually be better.
Hopefully etrailer or Curt will do the right thing and refund my money or at least replace the CrossWing with a different hitch.
we went on a 150-mile trip it performed great. I replaced a curt A16 fifth wheel
slider hitch. Easy to hitch I will post more later after more trips
Takes a bit longer than expected. Figure in a day for the above bed install kit. I'll post back after I make a 2000 mile trip with the 40' RV. Have a great day everyone!
Absolutely LOVE this hitch. So easy to hook up, and if you are off an inch or so the swivel head on the trailer moves right into place! It’s light enough for me, a 5’4” woman to lift in and out of the truck with ease. Wouldn’t trade this hitch for anything!!!
I had to customize some of the brackets to make them work on my truck. As well as add some spacers under the front rail so when it was tightened it would remain flat. The kit is usable if you have the ability to make it work. But when I buy something like this I expect it to go on without messing with it.
I purchased the Curt CrossWing Lightweight Fifth Wheel Hitch last year to replace the Curt 20k sliding hitch. The later was stored on a pallet and required that I use extended forks on my tractor to lift it into the bed of my pickup truck. I then had to muscle it in place in order to tow my Keystone Avalanche 343RS fifth wheel trailer.
I sold that trailer and now have a 5th wheel that is lighter by 4000 lbs. and 7 feet shorter. With the Curt CrossWing leightweight 5th wheel hitch, I am able to lift it into the bed myself and secure it to the bed rails in a fraction of the time the other hitch required. The CrossWing hitch has the same tow rating as the heavier hitch. I am glad I made the switch as I am 74 years old and not getting any younger.
The hitch tows like a dream, is easier to hook up to the trailer and is all around easier to use.
I’ve enjoyed the way this unit tows - much easier to get in and out of the truck. Just switched trucks and bought the version of this hitch that works with the puck system
Super impressed with the Curt Crosswing hitch. It’s light enough for a child to handle. Coupling and uncoupling so far has been extremely easy. Takes up far less space than a traditional sliding 5th wheel.
THE RAILS AND BRACKETS WERE JUST AS DESCRIBED AND CAME VERY QUICKLY AND REASONABLY PRICED. THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE VERY HELPFUL INCLUDING THE VIDEO ONLINE. INALL IT TOOK ME ABOUT 5 HOURS TO INSTALL WITH TAKING MY TIME TO DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING. IT FIT JUST AS IT SAYS AND FIT MY PICKUP PERFECTLY. GREAT PRODUCT AND GREAT COMPANY
This is a well put together package. The fact that you do not have to drill the frame makes things much easier. That said, it is still a lot of work and if you do not have all the tools needed and a lift you will be at this install for quiet some time.
The spare tire has to be removed and if there is a spare tire shield it will have to go as well. The inner fenders need to come out and at that point you will find it is easier if the tires and wheels are out of the way. It is a bit of work to get the right rear bracket in with the tail pipe in place. Also the spacers that go into the frame are also hard to get in place. Lastly, you will still have to drill holes in the bed.
With all this work required, I am very glad that I did not have to drill the frame also.
The Crosswing hitch arrived promptly from etrailer. The hitch is of good quality and functions well. Etrailer customer service has been great throughout! Highly recommended.
Follow the directions for hook up and it is a great hitch. Much lighter than others
Fantastic hitch that is heavy duty enough for our 5th wheel but still lightweight enough to remove easily. The hookup and disconnect process is also much easier than our previous traditional kingpin 5th wheel sliding setup
I have 4 stars for one reason. The locking handle is too short. I have dually and am 6'4!" And need to use a step platform to reach the lock pin and handle.
Smooth pulling and easy hitching.
fair price. Simple installation.
2005 Ram 2500 Quad Cab Short Bed. Xlnt kit, easy install. The installation instructions could have been better. I suggest watching the video on youtube and setting up the rails and hitch on the garage floor first. Take measurements between rail hole rows (row 2 to row 3 - 17 3/4") and add 3/4" for front bed support clearance - 18 1/2". Looking over a rear tire and measuring from the front bed support, My row 2 needed to be rear of center by 1/2". This puts my rear rail at 26 1/4 instead of 26 3/4" from the tailgate. Then everything lined up perfect. The fish wire provided really works great ( threads on to the bolt like a nut). My only problem was the spacer that gets fished with the carriage bolt was to wide for the large hole in my frame. I cut a 1/4" off the spacer and that was the only modification I made to this kit. Not all trucks are the same. XLNT kit, I was impressed !

This is a little confusing. Is the correct measurement 26 34 or 26 1/4 ??I installed a Curt rail kit a couple years ago. I do recall that if you use the instructiondimension...things line up better on a Dodge front rail if everything would have been about a 1/2 inch further rearward. Is there any way this can be clarified? I am starting on another install today. thanks.
Why didn't I do this sooner!. This has been the best investment in quite some time. I am totally impressed with this hitch (and Ram adapters for the puck system). I swapped out a Curt A20, heavy son of gun, but good hitch. Just couldn't use my bed. At 67 years old, hard to remove the thing. This hitch I can lift with one hand. Hitching and unhitching are a breeze. And removal is as simple as 4 levers or 4 pins. We've put over 6000 miles pulling a Grand Design Reflection 320MKS, about 13K loaded. No issues with the hitch at all. I highly recommend this hitch. What a difference.
Fish wire was too short for long bed installation. Instructions did not address how to clear my brake lines on the left side front bracket. Overall the installation was not as easy as the video depicts. I am a professional mechanic for over 30 years.
So here I am 1 year later and 7000 + miles later having towed/hauled a 30' Keystone Cougar with the Curt E16K hitch and bed rails.
I installed the item and it was fairly easy with the help of a friend to help tighten bolts and nuts. On the rails I have the E16K Curt Hitch in a 2007 - 2500 Dodge Ram Cummins. I used to remove the Hitch after every trip. That lasted for the first 2-3 times. It is darn heavy to remove and put back in. So now I leave it installed in the truck and remove it when/if I need to haul something in the bed.
Hope this helps your decision and Happy Hauling :o)
Easy as pie to install.. check out my before and after pics. 20 minutes at most to install. NO MORE HURTING MY BACK!

I still have no complaints I have pulled my 35ft fifth wheel camper multiple times already and it did great. I have since recommended etrailer site to everybody I know that needs hitches. Thank you again for making it so easy to order and install!
