Between a trunk mounted bike rack and a roof rack mounted bike rack I believe you will be best served with a trunk mounted option. Anytime you mount anything on your roof you end up with additional road noise and less gas mileage. Since you plan on going on several pretty long trips a month I think you would rather not take the hit in gas mileage and not have to deal with the noise of the rack.

Since the Load Range B rating of 1570 per axle and the Load Range C rating of 1980 lbs per axle are both above the GVWR of the trailer in question, no it doesn't really matter. However if it were me personally, I'd go with the Load Range C # AM30660 over the # AM30580 load range B. The Nissan Versa is what is considered an economy car. As such it is smaller, gets better fuel economy, and weighs less than other vehicles. But, it was not designed to tow. This could be for any number of reasons such as, the engine was not designed for the strains of towing, or the frame such as it is cannot handle the stress of towing. I pulled up the owners manual for your 2009 Nissan Versa and the standard transmission versions of the vehicle can be flat towed but there is no mention of needing to leave the key in the on position to keep the wheel unlocked. This is most likely due to vehicle not having a steering wheel lock which is common for manual transmission vehicles.

It isn't a question of legality so legally, yes, you could install a hitch and tow the small boat and trailer with your 2007 Nissan Versa. If you were to take the vehicle in for warranty work and they saw the hitch they could say that it voids the vehicle warranty.
