I spoke with my contact at Curt about wiring harness # C56070. He said that there are 12 to 14 gauge wires used. The 12 volt and ground wires would be the larger 12 gauge.

For something to be considered waterproof it has to be able to be submerged under water for a certain amount of time and not let any water in. Based on that the Optronics adapter # A57WB is not technically waterproof. But at the same time you should unplug the trailer from the tow vehicle prior to submerging the trailer in the water so as to eliminate any chance of a short caused by water.

If you need a trailer wiring harness but you already have the factory tow package, you'd use # HM40975 or # 22112 if your ProMaster doesn't have the tow package. For a ball mount, use # C45030 and for a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19260 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball. Then you will need a pin and clip like # PC3.

Your tow package port on your 2005 Toyota Tundra will either be above the emergency brake pedal (even taped to it), or behind the kick plate panel to the left of the emergency brake pedal. Like you have said, the 2013 Ram 1500, if so-equipped, will have both a 7-Way and a 4-Way trailer connector at the back. In order to determine where the problem is you will need to use a circuit tester, # PTW2992, if you do not already have one.

The hitch pin weight of 1400 lbs you stated is so close to your payload capacity, but that is not accounting for the 5th wheel hitch and rail weights or the loaded weight with cargo added. Tunda's are notorious for having a lower payload and in this case, I can't tell you it will be fine. The payload weight is spread out over the truck bed where the 5th wheel rails are mounted to the frame directly so are more secure.
