Expert Answers about Flat Tow Wiring Harness

  • How Do You Determine If a 2006 Jeep Liberty Has the Tow Package Wiring?
  • With your 2006 Jeep Liberty, the factory tow package wiring is not easy to distinguish. If you have a factory 7-way that makes it easy as you know that the tow package wiring is there. The main difference between the tow package and no tow package is the wiring for the tow package gives you the rectangular connector under the vehicle that the 7-way # HM42190 plugs into. You can also use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118381 which plugs into the...

  • What Gauge Wire Is Used On the Hopkins Endurance 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Harness?
  • The Hopkins Endurance 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Harness - 20' Long # HM48240 uses 18 gauge wire for the 3 lighting functions and 16 gauge for the ground wire. This is standard size wire for a 4-way flat harness, but the ergonomic grip on the connector for the easy pull disconnection is what sets this harness apart from others. I recommend using the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 22-18 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Red - Qty 10 # DW05743-10 for your light connections.

  • Trailer Hitch Made in USA and Wiring Recommendation for a 2016 Subaru Outback
  • Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75673 for the 2016 Subaru Outback is made in Mexico. Curt trailer hitch # C13206, also for your 2016 Subaru Outback, is made in the USA. But, per Curt warranty requirements, all non-trailer loads (bike racks, cargo carriers, etc) must be supported by stabilizing straps, such as # 18050, sold separately. So if you are going to be using the hitch for anything other than towing you would need the strap. If you are going to do some towing I recommend etrailer ball...

  • Yes, we do have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C46DR which is made in the USA for your 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. • What Gauge are the Wires on Hopkins Active Tail Light Converter with Install Kit
  • I spoke with our contact at Hopkins and he confirmed that on the Active Tail Light Converter # 46255, the lead power wire is 14 gauge and the remaining wires are 18 gauge. If you are looking for a bit of a higher gauge wire, you can use the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT. The kit includes two 12 gauge wires (black and white). The other three color wires in the kit are 18 gauge.

  • What is the Wire Gauge Used in Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring for 2015 Ford F-250
  • I spoke with my contact at Curt about wiring harness # C56070. He said that there are 12 to 14 gauge wires used. The 12 volt and ground wires would be the larger 12 gauge. Hardwire harness # 319-S7-08 uses 10 gauge for the ground and auxiliary power, 12-gauge for brakes and 14-volt circuits for the other 4 functions. But the difference between 10 and 12 gauge wire for this application is not going to be a problem so I would stick with the custom harness # C56070.

  • American-Made Trailer Hitch for 2012 Acura MDX
  • I'd recommend the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, part # 13354. Curt manufactures their hitches in the USA. Draw-Tite is an American owned company, but their hitches are manufactured in Mexico. If you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, you'll need a few more parts to complete your towing system: Trailer wiring harness with 4 pole trailer connector, part # 118424 Ball mount, part # 2923 Trailer ball, part # 19261 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch.

  • Is Optronics 7 Pole to 5 Pole Flat Wired Adapter Waterproof
  • For something to be considered waterproof it has to be able to be submerged under water for a certain amount of time and not let any water in. Based on that the Optronics adapter # A57WB is not technically waterproof. But at the same time you should unplug the trailer from the tow vehicle prior to submerging the trailer in the water so as to eliminate any chance of a short caused by water. Using dielectric grease, # 11755, on the trailer connectors/adapter will repel moisture and would...

  • Domestically Manufactured Hitch for 2016 Ram ProMaster 1500
  • Draw-Tite manufactures their receiver hitches in Mexico. If you'd prefer something manufactured in the USA, Curt offers a similar hitch as part # C13295. If you need a trailer wiring harness but you already have the factory tow package, you'd use # HM40975 or # 22112 if your ProMaster doesn't have the tow package. For a ball mount, use # C45030 and for a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19260 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball. Then you will need a pin and clip like # PC3. I've linked you to some installation...

  • Location of a Trailer Brake Controller Port on a 2005 Toyota Tundra with Factory Tow Package
  • Your tow package port on your 2005 Toyota Tundra will either be above the emergency brake pedal (even taped to it), or behind the kick plate panel to the left of the emergency brake pedal. The connector should be white. See the installation video on the 2006 Toyota Tundra I included as it will be the closest to your truck. If you don't have a brake controller yet, I highly recommend going with the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 because its one of the most popular and highest rated brake controllers...

  • Are Hitches Available for a 2008 Volvo XC90 Made with Square or Round Tube
  • All the hitches we offer for your 2008 Volvo XC90 use square tube construction. No drilling, trimming or vehicle modification will be required, the hitch bolts to existing holes in the vehicle. The nice thing about the design of the hitch is that the cross tube is concealed behind the bumper, so the receiver tube is the only visible portion of the hitch. The two hitches available are pretty similar, visually speaking but the Draw-Tite # 75152 has a higher tongue weight capacity (maximum...

  • Trailer Turn Signals and Brake Lights Not Working when Connected to a 2013 Ram 1500
  • Like you have said, the 2013 Ram 1500, if so-equipped, will have both a 7-Way and a 4-Way trailer connector at the back. In order to determine where the problem is you will need to use a circuit tester, # PTW2992, if you do not already have one. Have someone sit in the truck and go through the light functions while you test the 4-Way with the circuit tester. If everything works on the truck side, then that indicates a problem on the trailer. If the same problem exists on the truck side...

  • Fifth Wheel King Pin Weight and Truck Payload Capacity
  • The hitch pin weight of 1400 lbs you stated is so close to your payload capacity, but that is not accounting for the 5th wheel hitch and rail weights or the loaded weight with cargo added. Tunda's are notorious for having a lower payload and in this case, I can't tell you it will be fine. The payload weight is spread out over the truck bed where the 5th wheel rails are mounted to the frame directly so are more secure. Unfortunately manufacturers don't test for the 5th Wheel Hitch weight...
