I bet if you were to go out and watch as someone applied the brakes of your truck the third brake light above the bed would not illuminate. The fuses in your truck are known for blowing quicker than most other vehicles. I wouldn't be surprised if your old brake controller may have malfunctioned and caused the fuse to blow.
