She said that the holes in the hook assembly are there to hang the assembly for when it gets the powder coat treatment and haven't provided the best security when customers have tried using a padlock.

That's a good question, and it comes down to engineering and strength. The pins that hold the Companion in place to the puck system of your 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 were engineered to withstand what are significant forces on the hitch while towing with the Companion installed in the truck's puck system. The padlocks, however, were not designed with this type of constant force in mind, and using them while towing could lead to failure.

I spoke with my contact at Swagman about the Swagman XC # S64650 and she said that the holes in the arm hook assembles actually is not for a padlock. The holes are what they use to hang those parts of the arms on when they are putting products on those pieces.
Instead of padlocks you need to use the Cable # S2005 which fits the Locking Anti-Rattle, Threaded Hitch Pin # S64029. If you don't already have the threaded hitch pin you can purchase both of these with part # S64031.

The coupler cam handle safety pin (or appropriately sized padlock) on the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3670 needs to be re-inserted through the cam handle and coupler after the trailer is hooked up and the cam handle itself is completely closed. Per the installation instructions, Roadmaster requires that the removable baseplate arms be removed before driving unless the arms can be pinned or padlocked in place. If the arms are not pinned or padlocked in place before driving the arms could vibrate out.

When you first receiver your Trimax 1-1/4" Solid Brass Resettable Combination Padlock # TMX83FR the combination is factory set to 0-0-0-0. You will simply turn the combination to pins to this and press the shackle down to open.
