I contacted our representative at Hopkins and he informed me that the Trailer Breakaway Kit Battery Charger, part # 20011 can charge batteries of different sizes, even large batteries, it will just take a bit longer. The issue is that if you have batteries mounted under the hood of the truck and you are trying to use the electrical system of the batteries to charge a trailer battery you will not be able to achieve sufficient current to charge up the battery, only maintain the charge that is already in it. I'll start by saying that you can't wire batteries of different voltages together in parallel. Wiring the 6v and 12v batteries in parallel will cause a loss of voltage to the larger batteries and overloading on the lesser battery.
