How were you able to plug the 7-way in upside down? There is a cut out and notch on the 7-way that was designed to prevent that. Are you sure it actually went in upside down? With that said if it did somehow happen the problem you described would have to be that the 12 volt power circuit got shorted out and probably melted/destroyed the wiring.
