  • Tekonsha Primus IQ Is Initiating Brakes With No Trailer Connected And Turning Off Cruise Control
  • Hello Dan. It definitely sounds like something is wrong internally with your controller. It is difficult to say exactly what is wrong. Could be a shorted wire perhaps. Anytime a controller works normally for a period of time, then abruptly stops working right, it almost always means an issue with the controller. At this point I have to suggest that you replace your Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 with a new one. This controller does cone with a lifetime warranty which...

  • No Power to Trailer Brakes With P2 Brake Controller on 2019 F-150
  • Hey Scott, With no power to the brakes on your F-150 with the P2 Brake Controller # 90885, you will need to find out if the issue is on the brake controller, your truck, or the trailer. To test the brake controller, sever the blue wire a couple inches from the back of your controller. Then use a circuit tester to test the end of the blue wire coming out of the controller. It should only have power when you apply the manual override; if it shows power at idle then there is an issue with...

  • No Power to P2 Brake Controller in 2019 Ford F-150
  • Hey Scott; with some models of the 2019 Ford F-150 power was not run to the brake controller port under the dash for some reason. So you'll want to use a circuit tester and test the black wire on the brake controller connector to see if you're getting power. My guess is you won't so you'll have to Power Wire Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers # BRK-ELECKIT to get power to the port. I have added a link below to a video of this part for an F-150 which may help.

  • Troubleshooting No Brake Output From A Hopkins Impulse Brake Controller
  • Hey Clark, When you're testing the brake controller with the brake pedal is your Sierra moving or are you sitting and pressing the brake pedal? Brake controllers will require the vehicle to be moving (usually about 20-25mph) in order for them to activate. Using the manual override lever/switch would be the only way to activate it otherwise. If the truck is moving and you're not getting any output and you hardwired your controller in then you could've potentially spliced into the wrong...

  • Intermittent Trailer Brakes
  • Hello Nathan, Thank you for your purchase from etrailer of the Draw-Tite Brake Controller # TK63VR. For intermittent brake controller operation like yours, the ground is certainly the first thing I'd look at. If you hardwired the controller, make sure the ground to the negative battery terminal is solid and not potentially loose. The other thing that may be happening is an issue with the 7-way connectors. Often, corrosion or dirt may be the cause of a short in a trailer connector. Check...

  • GMC Trailer Brake Issue When Trailer Battery Has a Higher Voltage Then The Truck
  • Emmett, I am unfamiliar with the issue you have on your GMC truck and the brake controller not operating the trailer brakes due to a trailer battery voltage being higher than the trucks voltage. The Smart Diodes # RO54FR you found are used on certain vehicles being flat towed with variable voltage LED tail lights to prevent damage to the factory wiring. I recommend reaching out to your local GMC dealer to ensure you have the latest update for the factory brake controller software and there...

  • Toubleshooting Trailer Not Connected Check Trailer Wiring Error on 2019 Silverado 3500
  • Are you getting any errors related to the brakes? It looks like the 2019 Silverado 3500 detects the trailer through the running light circuit so it may not be brake related. I would start by double checking the vehicle and trailer connectors for damage or corrosions. I would also check all of your ground connections and make sure there is no damaged wiring on the trailer. If it also gives you brake related errors it could be brakes themselves or the brake controller. The P3 # 90195 can...

  • Troubleshooting An OL Error On A Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN Trailer Brake Controller # TK63VR
  • Hey Randy, If you're getting an 'OL' (overload) error on your Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN Trailer Brake Controller # TK63VR when the trailer isn't connected then you likely have a bad ground on the Excursion. When connected to the trailer you're probably getting ground from it and that's clearing the OL issue. I would check the wire harness ground to make sure you're getting a good connection to the frame.

  • Troubleshooting Brake Controller of 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 Not Working with EOH Actuator
  • Hey Bradley, unfortunately integrated brake controllers don't always love to consistently work with electric over hydraulic brakes so I would assume that is the issue. If you let me know what actuator you have on the trailer I can see if there's an adapter for it that will help otherwise an aftermarket controller like the P2 part # 90885 that has a hydraulic mode would be a great option. Also worth checking is to see if your integrated controller has a hydraulic mode setting that isn't...

  • Can Curt Echo Brake Controller be Used With Stealth Hitches Hitch 7-Way
  • Hi Mike, You can use the Curt Echo Brake # C51180 with the Stealth Hitches 7-way. The lid on the 7-way will attach to the tab of the Echo to keep it secured. There isn't a short extension with a 90-degree elbow that we offer though you can use one if you find it. The controller does not need to be fixed relative to the vehicle, but does need to be on the vehicle as it uses its deceleration to apply the brakes, and it'll take longer to apply the brakes if it is away from the tow vehicle.

  • Troubleshooting Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Open Ground Error Code
  • Hey Mark, normally what you described would indicate that the blue wire of the P3 part # 90195 that runs to the truck 7-way has an open ground that is shorting to something metal on the truck. Since the wiring was checked the first thing to try is a reset of the controller which is just unplugging and plugging it back in. If that doesn't fix it then a new controller would be only solution.

  • Troubleshooting Hayes Energize III+ Trailer Brake Controller Lights Up With Turn Signals
  • This is quite strange so I'm not quite sure what the problem would be either. Since you used the # HA81794-HBC for installation I doubt anything with your installation is the problem. However, it wouldn't hurt to unplug the connectors and plug them back in to make sure they are seated properly. I suppose there could be some kind of short in the wiring allowing power to transfer over and back to the brake controller triggering the LED light but that seems like a pretty slim chance. With...

  • 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Factory Brake Controller Stops Working When It's Over 70 Degrees Out
  • Hi Samuel, If the temperature is an issue that tells me you either have some sort of software issue that is somehow linked to a temperature sensor in your truck or something is overheating in your brake controller setup and shutting off. Either way, that's something only GM would be able to correct. In the meantime you can use an aftermarket brake controller to override your factory one. You could go with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 along with a plug-and-play adapter # 3064-P for...

  • Recommended Brake Controller For A 2024 Buick Enclave
  • Hey Koray, Buick definitely isn't installing a factory brake controller in their vehicles so you would need to install an aftermarket brake controller. The Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller # C51180 is super easy to install because it simply plugs into the 7-way and doesn't require any additional wiring, but it's one of my least favorite options. This brake controller has a downloadable app to set your brake sensitivity but I've had a ton of issues when trying to sync my phone to the...

  • Troubleshooting OEM Brake Controller of 2021 Chevy Silverado not Working with 2021 Grand Design
  • Hey Tim, it sounds like your Grand Design may have electric over hydraulic brakes but I am not totally sure. If that's true make sure your brake controller is put in hydraulic mode. Otherwise an aftermarket brake controller that was designed to be used with EOH brakes like the part # 90885 would be a great solution.

  • Why Would a Trailer Brake Controller Have a SC Error Only When Put Into Drive?
  • This one has me stumped Ben. Your Hopkins Agility just like other brake controllers ties into a power, ground, the brake switch and has the output for the trailer brakes. There is nothing connecting to a gear position/neutral switch so it makes no sense why it would only show the SC error when put into drive and not 1,2 or R. The only thing I can think is there is some kind of short in the factory wiring which is causing the issue you are having. This may be difficult to find due to the...

  • Troubleshooting N.C. Error Code On Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller
  • With the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller # TK94FR having the N.C. error and you verified the brakes lights are working on your trailer with no brake output on the unit using your tester it makes me think it is either going to be the unit itself or you have a damaged power wire going to the trailer brakes. While plug in testers are typically great they are not always able to be used to test brake controllers correctly. I would start by testing the power wire going to the brakes....

  • Electric Brakes Don't Work on Trailer Towed by 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500
  • You will need to find out if the issue is on your 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500, trailer, or brake controller. To test the brake controller, sever the blue wire a couple inches from the back of your controller. Then use a circuit tester to test the end of the blue wire coming out of the controller. It should only have power when you apply the manual override; if it shows power at idle then there is an issue with the controller and it will need to be replaced. If the controller tests fine,...

  • Troubleshooting "Short" Error Code On Curt Discovery NEXT Trailer Brake Controller C84VV
  • Hello Surg. It is definitely odd that you are seeing the "short" error code on the Curt Discovery NEXT Trailer Brake Controller # C84VV, especially since your Tacoma was pre-wired from the factory. Nonetheless, this error code is definitely not normal, and is an indication that something is wrong. The display should show the current gain setting when the manual override is applied. With no trailer connected, the "short" code means that the red wire is connected to ground side of the stoplight...

  • Can Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller Apply Brakes to One Side of Trailer More than Other
  • Hey Travis, so the Curt Echo # C51180 doesn't have a way to apply brakes to one side of the trailer more than the other. It can only put out one brake signal so if you have problems with one side of the trailer brakes it's not the brake controller. It's probably wiring though so I would check to make sure the brake output circuit is making it to both brake assemblies and also that the assemblies are grounded properly.
