If you are still worried however you could use the Roadmaster 20" Safety Cable Extensions part # RM-910648-20 which are coated so even if contact were to occur it would not cause damage.

That RF sensor that sits behind the bumper trim and bumper bar gets moved at the 8 min mark in the installation video I have attached. The proximity and back up sensors are inside the bumper trim. When the hitch receiver is installed its behind the license plate bracket and completely hidden.
