I would guess that your problem is a combination of a number of things. First off they are getting old. We usually recommend getting new trailer tires at about 5 years and definitely keeping them no longer than 7 regardless of the mileage on them.
Also, the # AM30850 tires have a maximum psi of 80 psi. Trailer tires should always be inflated to their maximm psi when they're cold. Since you're only running yours at around 60 you're not getting the full capacity of the tires and you're... view full answer...

If your 2016 Jeep Patriot has a manual transmission then you can flat tow it and you will need a wiring harness in addition to the parts you mentioned. The only way to tow your Patriot if it has an automatic transmission is to use a dolly like item # DM9713093.

We haven't had a chance to install Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75712 on a 2014 Jeep Patriot but the measurement should be around 6-1/2 inches like on the 2011 model in the video I have linked to the right.

When we installed and reviewed the Yakima Holdup Evo part # Y02479 we found that there was 8 inches from the pin hole to the nearest portion of the rack when folded up so this would work for you to clear the spare of your 2016 Jeep Patriot. The 2015 Jeep Patriot with either 2.0L or 2.4L engine does have a towing capacity of 1000-lbs; the 2.4L models with the Trailer Tow Prep Package (AHC) or the Freedom Drive II Off Road Package (AWL) can tow up to 2000-lbs trailer weight. I looked up the owner's manual for your 2015 Jeep Patriot, and on page 422 it gives all the ratings for pulling a trailer. There are 2 different ratings, if you Patriot has the factory tow package or not.
If you have the 2.0L, or 2.4L motor without the tow package the max tongue weight is 150 lbs.
If you have the 2.4L with the factory tow package or the Freedom Drive II Off road package the tongue weight is 300lbs.
