I believe I have a solution that will work on both of your vehicles, but when on the 2003 Infiniti G35 coupe you would only be limited to carrying 2 bikes. I checked with Thule and the Thule 3 Bike Carrier part # TH78VR that you referenced would work on both vehicles.

I spoke with my contact at Magnaflow about your 2007 Infiniti G35 Coupe. They told me that the Stainless Steel Cat-Back Exhaust System, part # MF16641 is not much louder than the stock system it replaces. They told me that there is a small change in the pitch but an insignificant change in the noise level. This system is designed to increase horsepower and torque and is constructed of stainless steel.

There isn't a specific place the side hooks have to go on the Thule Gateway trunk mount bike carrier # TH88JV. If they will stay in place lower or higher then it is acceptable to place them there. The side straps help prevent the rack from sliding left or right. This is a common issue on many vehicles. I have this same problem on my car and my wife's SUV. There is a very easy solution and a couple of things you can try. First, you may be able to start the lower strap hooks off o the side and work them down into position on the lower lip of the trunk.
The other way is to open the trunk slightly, slip one hook on and tighten the strap, then repeat with the other one, and then firmly shut the trunk. That is how I have to do it on my car. Works well.... view full answer...
