In a situation like this, where you seemingly have ruled out the trailer as being the problem, I would recommend trying the vehicle with a different trailer, if you can borrow one from a friend or neighbor, you can quickly and easily determine if the problem exists with the tow vehicle or with the trailer. It sounds as if there has been a short in the system at some point. There are many situations that could cause this, but the important thing is that the converter and inline fuse have protected the sensitive circuitry in your vehicle from a potentially damaging situation. Nine years of service from a wiring harness is pretty good, so as annoying as it is not to have things working right, I would say you got your money's worth out of the old harness. Since the functions seem to have died off one by one this does suggest the unit has given its all and should be replaced.
