  • Troubleshooting Trailer Connector White Ground Wire With Power When Lights Switched On
  • It sounds like you have a short in your trailer wiring. Since the white ground wire is getting power when you turn on your lights it is likely getting power from the brown running lights wire. If this is something on a factory harness you will want to trace the wiring and look for any damage to either wire. If you are using an aftermarket wiring like the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11140495 it could be the module has failed if you are unable to find any damaged wiring....

  • Troubleshooting Brake Controller Wiring on 2012 Ford E350
  • For your 2012 Ford E350 Van, the factory tow package came with either the 4-way or the 7-way. If you had the factory 4-way, then you would need to add the # ETBC7 for the brake controller wiring. The power wire to the brake controller is needed on some but not others on the factory 4-way, and it does sound like your vehicle does even though you have the under dash connector. If you have the factory 7-way, then you should have all the appropriate wiring so I recommend looking at fuses....

  • Tips for Finding Leak in Air Lift Suspension Enhancement Air Bag
  • If you spray the air lines with soapy water typically you can see where the air is bubbling and what is causing the leak. Most of the time leaks are at where the air line inserts into a fitting. If the air line wasn't cut perfectly square it will end up leaking. I'd check there first. For a tube cutter we have the part # AL10530.

  • Troubleshooting ATAK Solar Motion Lights
  • When these lights are charged you should be able to turn them on in your dark closet. It appears that you have done everything right. You charged the lights in the sun for eight hours, so their battery should be charged. If I am troubleshooting, my only thought is whether or not the solar panel got eight full hours of sunlight. What I mean is, was it sunny the entire time your ATAK Solar Motion Light - Weatherproof - 460 Lumens, part # PT701, was getting charged? If that is the case, returning...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring That Stops Working When Headlights are On
  • Your main problem is an insufficient ground for the trailer wiring. Try improving the connection of the main ground wire of the trailer wiring harness. Make sure it is attached to a clean metal surface. Or you can run all of the trailer wires back to the main ground. This is actually the ideal solution. But you can also check the current grounds for the lights to make sure they are making a solid connection to a clean metal surface. What you described is the classic insufficient ground...

  • Batteries Inside Linc Analog Remote LC292614 Drain Very Fast
  • I spoke to my contact at Lippert and they informed me that if the Replacement New-Style Linc Analog Remote part # LC292614 drains the 2 AAA batteries in only a few days then there is an internal short and it will need to be replaced. This remote only transmits a signal, it does not receive one therefore there really couldn't be anything else that would cause this issue. Please note there is a power button atop the remote that should be used each time you are finished using it.

  • Operation of Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 in 2002 Ford E350 Diesel Van
  • The Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 operates by connecting to a 12V power source and an ignition-controlled circuit in the vehicle. The center terminal is to be connected to an ignition-controlled circuit such as that for the radio or power antenna. The solenoid will pass 12V power from the (left-side) input terminal through to the (right-side) output terminal only when a signal is present at the center terminal. Please refer to the included photo and sample installation video. A...

  • Troubleshooting Brand New Tow Dolly with Weak Brakes
  • It sounds like your brand new tow dolly has electric drum brakes that are in need of adjusting. Most likely they are self-adjusting assemblies that after several applications will adjust to the proper setting. This is a common occurrence on new trailers/dollies. But in the event they are manual adjust assemblies you would want to adjust them to where there is just a slight drag on the drum when they are turned by hand. Check out the video (see link). Beginning at the 4:23 mark, our installer...

  • Brake Controller Does Not Power Up on a 2006 Ford E-450 Van
  • Just to be sure, the Hopkins harness that you should be using for the 2006 Ford E-series van is # HM47715. Make sure that the factory fuse for the brake controller is installed. Use the van owner's manual to find the fuse and relay locations for the tow package wiring. I checked the owners manual online and it looks like there are 2 brake controller fuses. Inside the in-cab panel there is one in location 39. Under the hood there is one in location 10. If you have it all hooked up right...

  • What Signal is Carried on the Brown Wire of a 4-Way for a 2006 Ford E-150
  • Typically the brown wire on a 4-Way connector carries the tail/running light signal for a trailer. This could be the same for your 2006 Ford E-150 but since manufacturers don't always follow this pattern you can just use the attached photo to help you determine what the function should be. If the brown wire is right next to the open ground pin on your 4-Way then it should be the tail/running light circuit. If this doesn't have any signal you can start off by checking the fuse for that...

  • How to Troubleshoot P3 Brake Controller 90195 Not Recognizing a 2004 Wildwood Travel Trailer
  • I would not go as far as taking apart the hubs just yet. When you get the "Trailer Not Connected" error message on the P3 brake controller # 90195, this means that the controller is trying to send out a diagnostic pulse to confirm a trailer is connected, but the pulse does not have a complete circuit to make it back to the brake controller. This means that is a short or break somewhere along the line, from the brake controller in the cab back to the brake magnets on the trailer. The...

  • When Stepping on Brake Pedal and Connected to Dump Trailer Brake Light Fuse Blows on 2004 Ford E-350
  • It sounds like there is back feeding to the van from the trailer when you step on the brake pedal and that is what is causing the fuse to blow. There may be a higher rated fuse on the other vehicle which could be why it is not blowing. It is also possible that there is corrosion in the van side trailer connector that you will have to clear out. You will want to make sure that the trailer connector on the van and on the trailer are pinned out to match each other. I have provided a link...

  • Should the Light of my Brake Controller Stay On After Vehicle is Turned Off
  • The red light on the manual override of the Hopkins Agility will stay on all the time. But the amperage draw is so low that it would not drain your battery. A guy that works here has one installed on his truck and has had zero problems. He's had the controller installed for a few years at this point.

  • Act IV Brake Controller 5504 Not Recognizing Trailer Connection with 1992 Ford E-350
  • The # 5504 Activator IV brake controller will not show a decimal point constantly. You will only see the point when you do not have your trailer connected and you either press the vehicle brake pedal or activate the manual switch. If you do have the trailer hooked up and the controller does not show the brake output, this would indicate a problem on the blue electric brake wire, as you mentioned. To pinpoint where the problem is occurring, use a light tester like part # PTW2993 to...

  • Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Not Working after Connected to Factory Wiring Harness on 2007 Ford E-450
  • If your 2007 Ford E-450 has the factory 7-Way connector on the rear of the vehicle all you will need is the brake controller and the Tekonsha Ford Brake Controller Adapter, part # 3035-P. The adapter # 3035-P will plug into the brake controller port that will be tucked up under the dash, to the left of the steering column. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Tekonsha adapter # 3035-P. The adapter # 3034-P that you have referenced would not be the correct adapter...

  • Wiring a 1993 Ford E-150 Van for Towing a Trailer with 4-Way Connector
  • You will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, item # 118343, to wire your E-150 Van for trailer lighting. Your van has separate turn and brake lights so a converter is required. The T-One harness will plug in-line with your tail lights and then be ran down to the hitch. I have provided a link to installation instructions for you to review.

  • Not Getting Power to Auxiliary Power Pin on Wiring Harness
  • There are a couple reasons the 12V hot lead pin may not have power on your trailer connector. The first thing that you will want to do is to check to make sure that the wiring for the power is actually plugged into the battery power. This is typically done by using a ring terminal on one of the battery terminals on your 2010 Winnebago Impulse. Another step to take early on in the troubleshooting process is to see if your E-450 has a fuse for the trailer power. If there is a fuse dedicated...

  • Electric Brakes Pulsating On Travel Trailer When Stopping
  • There could be many possibilities that are causing the pulsating of your brakes on your 2008 Ford E350. A few possibilities to start with would be to use a circuit tester like the Quickee Tester, part # PTW2993, and check the connection of your stoplight wire from the brake controller to your stoplight switch. This wire needs to be connected to the cold side of the stoplight switch, which will only show power when the brake pedal is applied. You will also want to check all the connections...

  • P3 Trailer Brake Controller on a 2011 Ford E-250 Shows Open Ground Error with Van Running
  • The open ground error that the P3 is displaying means that it has lost its ground connection to the vehicle battery. This could be a faulty ground inherent in the wiring on the vehicle where # 3034-P plugs in. To see if that is the issue you can bring out a separate car battery if you have one available and sever the white wire on the harness and connect it instead to the negative terminal on the second battery. If that stops the error then you know the issue is a bad ground. You could...

  • Troubleshooting Erratic Trailer Braking On 1999 Ford E-350 Van
  • I have attached a helpful article that explains how to troubleshoot a brake controller. If you have to use the manual switch on the brake controller, you could have a bad stoplight connection or the adapter wiring does not match the vehicle OEM connector on your 1999 Ford E-350. If the brakes are too aggressive, the brake assemblies may need to be adjusted or the boost and or gain is set too high on the controller. You want to make sure the brake controller is level and not tilted or...
