Reduced axle sag with Timbren suspension enhancement

Just like the rear of your vehicle will sag under the weight of a fully loaded bed, the front of your vehicle will sag when under the burden of heavy equipment such as a snowplow. In this case, the front axle is handling not only the weight of the equipment, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Overall vehicle handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Install diagrams of Timbren hollow rubber springs

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above your front axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down so that the bottom of each spring touches the axle. Because each spring is making constant contact with the axle, it is always working to cushion and support your factory suspension.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's-side or passenger's-side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you're carrying off-center loads.

A snowplow mounted to the front of the truck will require extra suspension support for the front axle.

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System will help raise the front end of your vehicle when you're using heavy equipment like a snowplow. This ensures that your headlight beams will be pointed in the right direction and tire wear will be reduced. If the plow is off-center or has an extension, the springs will automatically compensate for this as well.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. More elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

2002 Ford Excursion

I installed these springs on the front a 2002 Ford Excursion with a 7.3L diesel. The kit has excellent fit & finish. It was very simple, and straightforward to install as well. If you can put a nut on a bolt, and change a tire you can do this. The hardest part was the bolts on the drivers side due to the tight area between frame, suspension, and axle parts. The passenger side was very easy. These replace the factory bumpstops between the framerail, and axle. They have stopped the heavy engine from bottoming out the suspension when hitting severe bumps, and do so without making the ride anymore harsh than before. I definately recommend this product.

2003 Ford Excursion

Easy to put on vehicle, have not hooked a trailer up yet, but clearance to pad is 1/2 to 3/4 inch which should be perfect.

by:

Installed even easier than I thought. On my '04 F250(Front), they were a direct swap for the factory bump stops and easily accessible. I installed them to help with a Western V-plow I installed. Don't even notice a drop when the plow is picked up. The Timbrens look to be a very simple and cost-effective way to manage extra weight on your truck.

2001 Ford Excursion

Noticeable improvementI bought a 2001 Excursion 4X4 with 168000 miles. Of course it had expected wear/tear. The ride had a noticeable sway in turns and the suspension was too loose for my liking. I replaced the shocks and still saw little improvement. I then intstalled this Timbren SES and noticed an immediate difference. The sway is gone and the suspension is much better. It is a little stiffer of a ride, but very acceptable. I bought a 4X4 so that's what I expected anyway. Installation was simple and I didn't even have to remove the tires or shocks to install. Took less than 3 hours to install front and rear sets. I am pleased with the system so far.

I know it will be lovely when loaded or the trailer on. However,it rides like a wagon empty with brand new premium shocks and struts empty. Thud thud thud. You really cannot feel the shocks or suspension. Found exact same item plentiful for 60 bucks on eBay after I bought these for 250. I may cut these in half or put air bag on. I do not like the ride empty. No hard feelings. It is a good product maybe just not for me.

About a 1/2 inch difference in gap at the bump stop perch but still within parameters. Truck sits perfect with trailer attached. Haven’t towed yet. After towing if they perform like they should will upgrade to a 5 star. Easy to install, definitely needed 2x4 and jack. 2011 Silverado ext cab with 30 ft Genisis 5th wheel.

by:

Was able to install these with a 15mm flex head ratchet wrench and lifted the rear of the truck to make it easier. 30 minutes to take off 4 nuts and put em back on. 2 minutes assembling the timbrens with the added spacer. I have a f350 with a salter and plow. Loaded with salt the lights shoot up and in the snow ?? it’s like hitting hyper drive and you’re blinded. These helped big time. Very happy so far.

by:

Haven’t had it on long, but so far so good. 1999 F350 dually. Bolted up nicely. Total job took 10 minutes. Have hauled two gooseneck loads of hay and truck drives SO much better. Nice and level. Money well spent so far.

by:

The pro: The longer, heavier bump stops worked great when hauling my mustang home from Chicago. The truck stayed level and handled great.
The con: I had to remove the bump stops for everyday use. They limited my suspension travel causing a stiffer ride.

by:

I am so glad I bought these for my truck. I was able to install them myself using a jack and jackstands. The ride is bit rougher now; but the suspension is totally awesome compared to before. I am able to haul a bit more weight when needed.

by:

very good product ,received just in time and fit perfectly on my GMC savana 2000 .Be sure to clean the two receptacle thats help.
très bon produit , reçu dans les délais et s'ajuste parfaitement . Assurez-vous de nettoyer le receptacle cela facilite l'installation.

The timbrens actually did what they were suppose to do. However, once I starter driving out west I notice the timbrens were riding on the axle which cause the speedometer to jump around depending on the road. I would recommend them if you are hauling or towing a camper or RV. I was going to contact etrailer about maybe removing a spacer for one set however the other set came as one unit. The bottom line is the Timbrens does stabilize your load for safe travels. I will be contacting etrailer soon to assist in correcting the problem...Road trip from Idaho,Colorado,Wyoming, and Utah were beautiful... Thank you etrailer

by:

Definitely a must have when towing..stiff without a load but night and day difference while towing my travel trailer, better traction, steering and braking. Easy quick install..only issue I had was with the long bolts they sent with the spacer kit (optional for lift) the bolt diameter was too wide to fit through the holes on the bracket..but a trip to the local hardware store took care of that.

by:

Pros: Cheaper and easier to install than airbags, do the job when load is enough to compress the shock, with added weight or towing, then it stiffens the rear very nicely.
Cons: Doesn't do anything until there is 2-3cm of compressed shock. It sits above the contact point, doesn't touch. Under normal driving, there is no benefit/improved stiffness/anti sway in rear or a leveling of the factory rear sag in a 2022 or newer Toyota Tundra.
If had it to do over, would have put some kind of spacer in between product and upper included bracket, the supplied bolt is long enough to accommodate, to eliminate the gap, and lift the rear 1-2 cm. Should do it anyway, maybe when swapping to summer wheels next month.

I’d seen similar products rated in the 4,000 lb ratings but I went with these. I’m not a mechanic but I removed the factory bump stops and installed both these in 30 minutes or less. I used my rolling jack and lifted from the drop hitch and easily removed the old ones and soapy water and 1/4 twist and these were on. Placed a block of wood in the space between these coils and lowered the jacks then pressed it with my tractor to confirm full engagement. I carry a lot of tools on a 2020 Chevy 2500 I do feel a bit of butt bounce on large bumps but other than that I’m very pleased.

The order with Will at etrailer was great. He was very helpful and knowledgeable, Installation was not easy but not too bad, The hardest part was removing the factory pieces I removed them from below which was a blind nut removal operation. This is on a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter motorhome. After removal of the factory pieces I discovered that access is much easier on top between the tire and the mud flap, I turned the front wheels inward and they didn't have to be removed. The front of the motorhome had to be raised quite a bit to get the Timbren piece jnserted. Also I learned to tighten the bolt and nut in the Timbren bumper as much as possible before installation because there is no access to the bolt head when tightening the top nut to keep the bolt from turning, preventing tightening the nut.

by:

First off the product was beat up with paint/power coating missing in several places on both. I was putting on a brand new truck with less than 800 miles on it so I elected to touch up before install. I’ve hear a lot about Timbren but never had them. I had airbags on my F350 but when I switched to a new Tundra I went with Timbrens. I’m a bit disappointed in the ride. Feels like I can feel a “bump” in the truck from the rubber pick hitting the axle when I go on a bumpy road. Thinking I should have went with airbags. As far as having a load on the truck and helping with the squat, they do as they are advertised.

by:

These work great for giving you a solid towing experience when loaded heavy; however, when driving empty you definitely get the jounce bumper “into the air” experience when driving on moderate to rough roads. I have the recommended gap installed between the axle and the timbrens, but with terrible midwest roads and highways it doesn’t seem to be enough gap. Smooth roads it rides great. It’s driving 80mph on the expressway and hitting potholes or large cracks where these will hit causing uncomfortable harsh ride.

I’ve resorted to installing and then subsequently removing these anytime I use my travel trailer for longer trips (30minute removal time). I tow a 7000lb loaded travel trailer with an f150 and just needed something to make the soft half ton suspension from porpoising too much on bad-roads. Mission accomplished when towing as I said these things work great for heavy loads. It almost rides better with heavy loads…. I was going to give airbags a try but the reviews from others have scared me from those because even with airbags at the lowest setting you still get the jouncing on bumpy roads.

  • Front Axle Air Spring Kit for Lifted 2004 Ford F-250 4WD
Timbren front axle kits # TFF350SD4 and # TFF350SD4B that fit the stock 2004 F-250 4WD are both considered standard capacity but part # TFF350SD4B does have slightly taller and stiffer springs. Otherwise they are essentially identical no-drill replacement bump stops. But neither of these can work on your truck with 6-inch lift. No Timbren front axle kits are safe to use on a truck with 6-inches of suspension lift. I did call Timbren to confirm this is the case. It may be possible to install...

  • Will the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System Fit a Lifted 2004 Ford F-250
Yes, you should be able to install the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System part # TFF350SD4 on your 2004 Ford F-250 with Old Man Emu ARB Leaf Springs. However, if the distance between the bottom of the frame and top of the leaf spring pack has changed which I can only assume it has then you will need spacers to fill the gap until you have around 1/2" - 1" from the bottom of the Timbren and top of the leaf spring pack. The Timbren spring and bracket will measure 4" tall therefore...

The first thing you are going to want to do is make sure that the truck payload capacity is high enough for your 3,500 pound camper. Adding suspension enhancement does not increase the capacity of the truck. It sounds like you have just about everything that you could use to enhance the suspension. Beyond that, all the components that you added to the rear suspension could be putting extra stress on the front. You could upgrade the front coil springs using # SSC-31. Or add some jounce-style...
