Video Transcript for TorkLift Rear Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs Installation - 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2022 Chevy Silverado 3500, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Torklift in-bed camper frame mounted tie-downs for the rear of the truck. But before we get into that, lemme just take a minute, check these out and make sure they're gonna work for you. Right off the bat, what these are gonna help you accomplish is a way to secure your in-bed camper. With that said, with these being just for the back, you are gonna want all four corners tied down, so you can always grab some for the front and this is just gonna be one component to being able to secure the camper in the bed. If you don't have any turn buckles, the ones that I like are the Fastgun.

They're also made by Torklift, and really a good matchup for these particular tie downs. Something I do wanna mention now, there are a handful of these that are designed a little bit different and so you wanna be sure to use a dropdown menu on our fit guide to enter in the exact truck you have. Bed length, does it have a step, and so on. That way you make sure you get what you need the first time. But for those of you that are curious, so these are gonna have two different adjustments.

Right now, we have it installed in a way that it is closest to the truck bed, and we'll go from the face of this. We'll just go to this corner here. With it like that, that's gonna set this at about four and one eighth of an inch at the face of it there. And if you need to to draw it out or pull it out further, rather, you can pull out the pin. It's gonna have that second hole.

Let that wind up. And that bumped it out quite a bit. When it's something like that, take that same measurement and it's gonna set that one at about eight and one eighth of an inch. In the off season, whenever you're not gonna be using your in-bed camper, you can actually remove these arms and leave them out. That way you don't have to deal with them coming out past the bed.

And once you do that, you're really not even gonna be able to see the main body of it. It's tucked up under there and unless you're on the ground here, not even gonna be able to see it. So that's always good. Keep seeing everything clean and and factory-like. Other than that though, I mean, not a whole lot to 'em. You know, as far as a build quality of these go, I'm a fan of 'em. Everything's solid, thick flanges, fits nicely, the hardware's all quality. So really can't ask for too much more. And being that they're frame mounted, it's a connection point you can rely on, 'cause those in-bed campers are pretty heavy. They catch a lot of lot of wind, and so you want something solid like this. As far as the installation goes, really not bad at all. You don't have to do any drilling or really modify anything for that matter. So just about anyone should be able to do this. But if you'd like to see how it's done we'll go ahead and get started on it now. To begin our installation for our rear-mounted camper tie-downs, first thing you're gonna do is come underneath the truck and just temporarily lower or remove your spare tire. Gives you a lot more room to work. And then we're gonna have a small bracket over here on the driver's side that we need to pull off. And this is held in place with one 10 millimeter head bolt. We'll go ahead and grab our pull wire and take the coil end of it. Run it through this hole here upward, so it comes out of the large opening there. And then you can take a bolt and we'll need star washers. We'll thread that on, just feed that right down through. Then you can carefully remove your pull wire. For this opening here, you're gonna take that same hardware accommodation that we just used. Just slide it in like that. At this point you can take your wire and in the large opening, run the coil up through that, then out the top, and you can take this big spacer block there and a bolt and the star washer. You're gonna thread that on, then feed all this through one at a time here where we can work that hardware through everything like that. And you can leave the pull wire attached. And what I might do as well, this bolt isn't staying in there as tight as I want it to with this plate hitting it. I might grab the other pull wire they gave us and thread that on as well. That way when we go to put everything up, if this falls back, we're gonna easily be able to grab it and kind of pull it back into position. Before we put our bracket up, it is gonna cover up this nutsert here, so I'm just gonna pop that out. That way it's out of the way, not gonna interfere with it. And now we can take our side specific brace and get it installed. So that pull wire will go through there. (metal clattering) Run that through. And, put a flat washer on, split lock washer, and a nut. Get that hand tight, that way it'll support itself. And then we can remove these pull wires and use that same hardware combination just to be on the safe side. I don't want this to fall in there. So if you take a screwdriver or something and just apply a little bit of pressure to it, it'll keep it, keep it stable, and you can put that same combo on. So I'll probably just put a nut on this for now. Gonna draw it out until I get this one together and it'll be easier to come back and put our washers on with it kind of like that. (metal clattering) Now I'm gonna come back with a three quarter inch socket and snug everything up. (drill whirs) With them snug, we can then come back with a torque wrench and tighten the hardware down to the amount specified in our instructions. With one side done, you can repeat that same process over here on the passenger side. We'll put the removable arm in, pin that down. And I wanna mention on this side you might have to work over your exhaust bracket a little bit. We have a gas truck and we have more than enough clearance. I've done these on diesel trucks too with a little bit bigger tailpipe and I don't recall having to do that. So if you got an aftermarket exhaust or anything or if you have really close clearance issues not a big deal, check your instructions, it'll tell you how you can kind of bend a bracket up to to give you more clearance. So if you run into that, always see your instruction book. With everything set up, I went ahead and reinstalled our spare tire the opposite way that we removed it and ran into no clearance issues or anything along those lines. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the Torklift frame mounted in-bed camper tie-downs for the rear on our 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500.
