Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello, everybody, this is jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Americana 14-inch by 5 1/2-inch AM03 series Gunmetal Gray, Machined Aluminum Trailer Wheel with the 5 on 4 1/2-inch bolt pattern. Now, this aluminum wheel is very durable, lightweight, and rustproof. As we mentioned, it's the AM03 series wheel, which you can see is a five-spoke design, and it's in a gun metal gray finish. And if you notice on those spokes, it has a nice machined silver face on the edge of the spokes that provide a nice, bold, sleek look. The gun metal gray finish on this wheel is a bright finish, and it does have a clear coat finish on the front pan, even on the back of the wheel to protect it.
A few dimensions on this, we mentioned the diameter of this is 14 inches, and when you measure the diameter, you'll measure inside to inside. So basically if we take a tape measure, and if we go across, you'll be able to see there's your 14-inch diameter. The width on this wheel, we said it was 5 1/2 inches. And that's always measured inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat. And there's your 5 1/2-inch measurement for the width.
Now, the bolt pattern on this wheel is a 5 on 4 1/2-inch bolt pattern. And if you wanna measure the bolt pattern on an odd number of lugs like this one being in five lugs, what you need to do is you can pick any hole, but whatever hole you pick, you'll measure across to either one of the two holes across from it. But when you measure, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you measure to across from it. So center to the furthest edge. So on this one, it'll measure 4 1/2 inches.
So that gives you a bolt pattern of 5 on 4 1/2 inches. Now, the wheel lug size that you on this wheel is a 1/2-inch by 20. Weight capacity is 2,200 pounds. And one of the nice features I like about this wheel is if you look on the inside of the lug nut wells right here, you'll notice they put steel inserts in those lug nut wells. And the reason they do that is so when you tighten your lug nuts down, it keeps the wheel securely in place on the trailer hub, prevents those holes from elongating, wearing down, and of course, it'll eliminate the need for constant re-tightening of your lug nuts.
If you notice the center cap is not included, we do sell those separately if you do want one. When you buy the center cap to fit this, you wanna make sure it matches the diameter of this pilot hole right here. This pilot hole diameter is 3.19 inches. So when you buy the center cap, make sure you get one that is 3.19 inches in diameter. This wheel does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation specifications and the SAEJ 2530 standards. But that should do it for the review on this Americana 14-inch by 5 1/2-inch AM03 Series, Gun Metal Grade Machined Aluminum Trailer Wheel.
