Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Kia Sedona - Draw-Tite

Today, on our 2011 Kia Sedona, we're going to review an install. The Draw Tie Hitch, part number 75421. Here's what our hitch is going to look like once installed. The majority of our hitch is exposed underneath the lower fascia and body of the vehicle. Its got a nice stylish round cross tube, and it's a completely steel and fully welded construction. The entire hitch has a nice black powder coated finish to resist rust and corrosion over time. Here, at the receiver tube, we've got our half inch pin hole.

Additionally, we've have a half inch perineal hole for the j pin anti rattle bowl. On either side of the receiver tube, we've also got our chain hold down. This is a nice large, easy to use chain hold out. This is our class three two inch by two inch receiver tube, and it's capable above the three hundred fifty pounds of ton wright at thirty five hundred pound to capacity. Another nice feature about this hitch is the pre installed and secured electrical bracket.

This is for mounting any electrical accessories for your trailering and hitch options. Next, we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements. This will assist you with selecting accessories, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin holes, the automos edged to the bumper is five and a half inches. The top of the receiver tube opening down to the ground is twelve and a half inches. Next, we'll go ahead and show you the minimum tools required for installing the hitch. We're going to use our half inch tube brush and a spray lubricant.

Three quarter inch socket, use an extension, ratchet, and then our torque wrench. Now let's go ahead and show you just how easy it is to install the hitch. Now, to begin our install, let's go ahead and point out the attachment points. Now, we're going to have a total of six attachment points, three on each side. These attachment points are weld nuts built into the frame by the manufacturer. So keep in mind, each process we do here on one side, we're going to repeat identically on the opposite side.

Now before we attempt to install the new hardware into the knew weld nuts, we're going to want to clean them out, because over time, the threads of the weld nuts will build up rust, dust, dirt, and debris which can make it difficult to install the new fasteners. So using a spray lubricant and our half inch nylon tube brush, part number 81492, will thoroughly clean the threads of the weld nut out before we attempt to install the new fastener. Now, securing our hitch will be the new twelve millimeter bolt and half inch inaudible 00:02:23 through the washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch and will go though the hitch and into the weld nut. We're not ready to go ahead and install the hitch. I'm going to take the passengers side and feed it up above the exhaust first. Then we'll rotate the drivers side up to the frame. Keep in mind, we'll install these faster in finger tight until we have them all in place. Now will all our hardware installed, we'll go ahead and tighten it down. Now, once all our hardware is tightened down, we'll go ahead torque to specification. Now do it for our review and install of the Draw Tie Class Three Two Inch Receiver Two Pitch, part number 75421, on our 2011 Kia Sedona.

We installed the hitch in about an hour. Hardest part was dealing with the tail pipe being the mounting holes for the hitch were right above. All six holes lined up properly for mounting this hitch. This is the third hitch I have install from etrailer over the years. All of them were easy to install and worked well for towing and using our bike carrier.

by:

Great product and installation was a breeze. The video helped to prepare us and the whole operation was completed in about 40 minutes.

by:

Easy install, bolts are not really what I was expecting. Overall good product, easy to install once you clean out those darn mounting points on the frame. Install time 2 hrs in the driveway.

by:

Trailer hitch arrived with fist sized holes punched through the box. Hitch was loosely packed in an over-sized box but appears okay, but paint is chipping from multiple places down to the bare metal. Whatever "e-coating" is being used, leaves a lot to be desired. I will touch up with POR-15 to ensure my new hitch doesn't rust the first day installed. Chipping may have been caused by the hitch rattling around loose in the box. Shipping department take note!!

2016 Kia Sedona

Everything about my eTrailer experience has been absolutely first class, including the follow up emails, 2 of them. Due to a medical problem it's taken me over a year to complete the installation but that's on my end. I installed the hitch and wiring harness in May of 2016. I just now got to running the power wire up to the battery and finishing the job today, 8/2/17. Again, all due to issues on my end. The product, the personal assistance, and the videos made this job as easy as it could be for this 68 year old putting a hitch on a 2012 KIA Sedona by himself. Thanks to eTrailer for running a most excellent company in every regard.

Installing Draw-Tite class III receiver, T-One vehicle wiring harness, universal trailer brake controller kit 7 way-4 way flat plug and Tekonsha P3 Electric brake controller on 2014 KIA Sodana.
It went well all instructions and video were helpful and installation went well, it took some time would be better to have vehicle on a lift and two people. The placement of the brake controller was the big issue; these new vehicles don't have much to fasten too.
Much more reasonable to do the install yourself and less hassle then dealing with those who say you can't install electric brake controller on a KIA.
I am 70 years old and have had hitches and electric brake controllers on all of my vehicles for safe trailer towing.

2010 Kia Sedona

Works well. Installation is fairly simple if you have the right tools. Hitch is pretty heavy so holding it in place isn't easy. I had to prop it up to be able to get the bolts started. And the weight of just the hitch made the back end of my van drop about an inch, necessitating adding a Firestone Ride-Rite air lift kit. Now THAT was a nightmare to install, but it works well.

by:

Just wanted to send a picture of the finished product.
Total install time was 10 minutes and 24 seconds. Now I can take my kids bikes on vacation!

by:

Great trailer that fit like a glove. Took less than 20 minutes to install. If you don't have power tools then it may take a little longer. Don't forget to use Locktite to secure the bolts.

Hyundai

Pro's wanted $517 to install this hitch on my 2007 Hyundai Van. I did it for half price through etrailer. I had no problem and did it all by my 74 year old self. Lifted it in place by a floor jack, 2X4's and bungee cords. Routed the battery wire through the rocker panel for a really professional installation. Instructions were good and video's a big help. Great place to do business with.

Kia Sedona

I have to be honest, I'm always nervous ordering stuff online. I was excited to see everything arrived in perfect condition. Not a scratch. Everything fit perfectly. The hardest part of the installation was cleaning out the bolt holes in the van. Also, the wiring harness was easier to install than I thought it would be. I am fairly handy but by no means am I a mechanic. I would suggest to anyone to install the hitch and wiring yourself. It saved me a lot of money. Thanks for a great product!

by:

The hitch is very well made and installed in about 30 min. I also ordered and installed the T-one wiring kit,118410. First, I would recommend to install the trailer wiring kit, as I did, before the hitch is installed, due to the run of the wiring infront of the bumper. The plastic bumper shield must come mostly off, over to the exhaust. I also ran the 12 guage positve wire from the battery through the firewall grommet down the drivers side panels to the converter. It made for a cleaner install. I like the hitch bag also. Nice products.

2007 Hyundai Entourage

I live in Weslaco Tx.. just 7 miles north of Mexico! I needed a class III trailer hitch and wiring for my 2007 Hyundai Entourage. All local places said it would take 2 weeks to get one down here for them to install. I needed it installed in less than a week! I called etrailer at 6 pm on and the hitch and wiring harness was arrived from Wentsville Mo. within 72hr! by UPS with NO shipping charges!!!! The following day I had them on the car in no time at all.!!! Quality Service!! Friendly Service!! Quality merchandise!! at bargain prices!!! Would recommend them in a heart beat!!! THANK YOU ETRAILER Staff and organization who helped me!!!

2015 Kia Sedona

Draw tite hitch was very E-Z to install on my 2014 Kia Sedona. Took about 15 min. to bolt up the hitch. The wiring harness was E-Z also. When you get a harness, be careful and get the one with plug in end fittings and not the wires that tap in with scotch clips. All in all I'm very satisfied with the products. Mike M.

2019 Ford Transit Connect

This was my second hitch purchase from eTrailer and I couldn't be more pleased! They really do their homework and make it easy to ensure that you're getting the right product for your vehicle. The hitch arrived quickly and undamaged even though the box took a beating in transit.

I followed the instructions from the installation video and everything worked just as depicted, just not quite as easily as they made it look. To be fair, they do it every day, whereas I've installed two hitches now.

From start to finish, it took me a couple of hours, most of which was spent cleaning out the nasty, dirt and salt encrusted bolt holes in my eight year old van. Once that was done, it bolted right in, no "persuasion" needed. The most frustrating part of the whole install was getting the muffler bracket bolts restarted when reassembling it; they just didn't want to start and there is almost no room for your hand above the tail pipe.

Here's what I needed to get the job done:

1. Jack stands
2. Liquid penetrant to clean bolt holes and lube the muffler hanger
3. Wire brush to clean bolt holes. I used (and destroyed) one I had for prepping copper pipe.
4. 1/2" socket wrench with 6 or 8 inch extension and 19 mm socket
5. 3/8" socket wrench with 6 inch extension, universal joint and 11, 12 or 13 mm (I can't remember now) socket for muffler bracket
6. Channel locks to pull off muffler hanger, which I found easiest to reach from in front of the right rear wheel
7. Torque wrench
8. Someone to help you lift the hitch in place until you get a bolt started on each side. (about five minutes)
9. A little patience and a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.

Thanks eTrailer. I'll be back when I need another hitch.

I was really pleased with the trailer hitch and the wiring assembly. The installation videos were really helpful. The only negative experiences that I had was 1) cleaning out the threads in the wieldnuts pre-installed in the vehicle. The video mentioned that they would need to be cleaned out but it did not begin to state how difficult a task that would be or any recommended tools to facilitate the process. It took me literally hours on my 6 year old vehicle and (2) 1/2" round wire brush. 2) While it may have been possible to get the "T" connector wiring harness from the left tail light up to the right tail light intact, I finally gave up on it. I cut the wires near the right hand "T" connectors fishing just the wires around, up and behind the bumper into the tail light area. I used inline splices, not supplied, and reconnected them to the "T" connectors. I spoke once to customer service (Katerine) and found her to be not only helpful but very pleasant to speak to.

Great trailer hitch. Fit perfect. Installation video was very helpful. Delivery was in two days! I will definitely buy from you again. I wish all of my purchases were this easy.

2008 Kia Sedona

Very good product, shipping with tracking, etc. For me, the video clip was more helpful than the written instructions for my specific vehicle.

A word to the wise for 2008 Kia Sedona owners: if you're also going to install a wire harness, be sure to watch the video for both installations first. About halfway through the wire harness install, you need to remove four plastic screws from the bumper flange. It would be a lot easier to do that before you install the hitch, as the hitch blocks the two center screws.

Removing the two bolts that hold the muffler are a real pain and reinstalling is even worse. Small hands help -- I couldn't even get a u-joint for my socket to work well.

All that aside, excellent product!

by:

The item arrived in a large box with puncture holes in both corners at the bottom, and the hitch was hanging out the bottom on both ends. There was some scuffing of the paint on the ends but no other damage. The mail drop it went to said this is very common with items coming from etrailer, so apparently they need to add reinforcing in those corners, or consider some other method of shipping that protects the heavy ends and prevents them cutting through the bottom of the box.
Anyways, the item was a perfect match for the Van, and fit just right. I have used it now to tow a boat and no problems. I would rate this excellent despite the partial box shipping issue.

by:

Installation was simple, BUT it would have been nice to know that installing the light kit first and then the tow bar would have made the job easier. On my vehicle, once the bar was installed it was very difficult to work around it to install the light kit.

Poor planning on my part.

by:

Arrived right on time, only took a couple of hours to install.

2012 Kia Sedona

The hitch's quality is excellent and fit was spot on. Instructions and videos on-line at e-trailer were fantastic. It was great to have the written directions and pictures/videos regarding installation. Price, free (and speedy) shipping, and personal e-mails all added to a fantastic deal & a great experience. Highly recommend etrailer.com and draw-tite hitches.

Hidden Hitch 70761I believe the product is excellent and the service was outstanding. The installation video was extremely helpful and I watched it numerous times including interrupting the installation to watch key points again. However, the install time required was much longer than I anticipated. Unless one has access to a hydraulic lift and a helper, or better, two helpers, as well as the right power tools, I don't see how the installation can be completed in 30 minutes as estimated. First, cars these days do not seem to have many accessible lift points for a jack. Either that or I don’t know what to look for. I ended up using the tire jack vs. a hydraulic jack because the lift point for that is obvious. But, using the tire jack is a slow process. Then removing the muffler hanger was more difficult than anticipated because the bolts are above the exhaust and not easily accessible. Fortunately I had a small drive handle with a swiveling attachment point. Without that tool I do not know how I could have removed the bolts. Then lifting the hitch into place requires some help. I used a small bucket and some boards to lift the hitch to approximately the right height so that I could thread the attachment bolts into the weld nuts. I used a beam type torque wrench to tighten the attachment bolts and this is slower (but more affordable) than a power tool would have been. My total installation time, start to finish: 3 hours.

by:

This was a much easier install then I had anticipated and I even installed it while cooking supper on the grill. I didn't need to remove the muffler or lift up the back end. I'm sure it would have made it easier to get the bolts in on the mufflers side but with a little effort and the right extension's it was not much of a problem at all. The hitch itself looks great on the van and I am 100 percent pleased with it. I don't believe you will go wrong with this one. I haven’t finished the wiring yet but have most of it done. I would just recommend watching the video and have an old coat hanger handy to pull the wire through the holes. Other than that, it is also pretty easy. It will probably take you longer to do the wiring than the hitch itself but that is to be expected.

by:

The shipping was fast and the hitch worked out well easy to install along with the wiring harness. Thanks for the video tutorial they were very helpful. One thing that was a problem though was that one of the holes on the hitch did not line up well had to force it a little into place but other than that great product. I installed it all myself, but it would be easier with two people. I recommend it.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2012 Kia Sedona
I have a way better hitch for you but the frame on your 2012 Kia Sedona is not wide enough for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C13900. Instead you will want the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch item # 75421. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Sedona with included hardware. It does not require any drilling. I recommended this hitch because it has a 2" receiver which will give you the widest options for accessories but also because this hitch has a 3,500 lbs capacity. You...

For a Class III hitch that fits your 2008 Kia Sedona we have the Draw Tite part # 75421 which would be a great option. Then to convert the hitch to a 1-1/4 inch hitch you'd just want the part # MT70033 and you'd be set.
