This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.Some ups, some downs. Overall, I'm pleased that I installed the hitch, but there were some things to watch out for.
Ups:
1) The videos do a great job of providing the details that the instructions don't. Thank you for making that available.
2) The videos do a good job of telling you what kind of tools we need, especially since the instructions are incomplete (argh!). I should have written down a tool list from the videos and not from the instructions.
Downs:
1) The videos understate the problems with the Curt manufacturing tolerances. They do state the problem, to be fair, but it was a big problem for me on my 2019 XT-4. Given the fact that it is an identified problems, some practical instructions to fix it might have helped, other than the general guidance that we might have to notch it out. I wound up borrowing several chisels from a neighbor.
2) Poor instructions from Curt. They kept it a secret that I would need a 7mm socket. The video did say it, but I didn't write anything down since I just used the instructions to compare to my inventory. Half an hour in and I had to go back to Home Depot for a 7mm socket. Solving some other tool problems added another hour to my time.
3) The videos give short shrift to the facia reinstallation process. The finicky facia was harder than we expected; seeing someone reinstall it would have been useful.
What else?
Time: it took me about 6 hours in total because of the Home Depot and neighbor trips to get the tools that the instructions didn't say anything about. I also had to rework the manufacturing tolerance problem about 5 times. If you jot down your tool list from the video and not from the instructions, you'll shave off a great deal of the time it took me.
- The tolerance problem was a massive issue. That added about 2 hours.
- Bottom line, plan for 2 hours if you're a weekend mechanic like me but give yourself 5-6 hours of leeway.
Removing T-15 screws: I suggest removing 3 on both sides instead of 2 (as the video recommends). Removing that 3rd T-15 gives you better access to the 7mm screw.
Torque on the top nuts of the bummer is almost impossible. There is so little clearance on the innermost nuts, after installing the hitch, that we just couldn't make torque measurement happen. We just tightened them as much as possible. The bottom bolts were very easy to torque.
The 2019 XT4 appears to have facia connection differences when compared to the 2022 and 2023 models in the video. We wound up recruiting a neighbor to hold the fascia up for us instead of removing it completely. Worked well.
Recommendation. I'm glad I'm done, but the hassle caused by the tool list inaccuracies and the Curt manufacturing tolerance issue really had me thinking twice about recommending this to someone else. Well, I'd say do it as long as you understand that the manufacturing tolerance issue can be a real problem, and there's probably no way that you'll actually get to measure the torque value of those inside, top nuts. I guess tighten them as much as possible and hope for the best!
This fit my vehicle exactly as promised. Very clean installation and installed well with only 1 person. The etrailer videos were instrumental for me in that they had a great amount of detail so I knew exactly what to expect - especially the details involving the removal of the bumper cover. I was very pleased!

Easy installation and it’s been working great.
Great quality hitch. I installed it yesterday. I consider my self more than a novice but do not install hitches or do much work with vehicle body panels. Installation, took a few hours because I took time & care not to damage body panels. Excellent custom fit in a very tight space.
Buying anything online these days is risky. This hitch and the included install steps were exactly as advertised. If only every company created such tutorials!

We have installed and used the hitch. The installation instructions were very good. The time estimate was accurate and the instructions were about 98% complete (only missing a couple of fasteners inside the facia). The hitch was installed for a bike rack, and that worked perfectly. Overall, we are very pleased.
Fast free delivery, product had instructions. Didn't think i was going to be able to do it but i did. Took about 2.5 hours. This is not the first time i put a hitch on a car, this one was a bit more intense. The only thing i didn't like much was the quality of pictures on the instructions. If they could have been a bit clear, installation would have gone a bit faster. Thanks for the great product!
Had all sorts of trouble finding this hitch receiver, but these folks had it. Asked for 4 day shipping and got it in 3 days! Need the hitch so I can attach a bike rack to my car. So glad I found etrailer.com!

No changes a year later still an extremely useful modification to the car to enable using a bike rack. I use it weekly.
