Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Toyota Camry - Curt

Today on this 2007 Toyota Camry we're going to install Part Number C12343. This is what the hitch looks like once installed on the vehicle. Next, we'll give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 11 1/2 inches. From the center of our hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is about 2 3/4 inches. Now I'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. The first thing we need to do is go ahead and lower the exhaust. We'll also use a strap to help hold the exhaust up while we do this work.

Then we can use it to lower it out of our way. We'll remove three bolts from the rear-most bracket and two of our hangers forward of the muffler. Our next step would be to go ahead and remove the plastic fish under the trunk pan and the passenger side frame rail. However, this car does not have that so we don't have to worry about that. Next we have to remove a tow bracket. Now our passenger side doesn't have it but our driver's side does have a bracket we have to remove.

Now at this point we're almost ready to install the hitch. All the bolts we're removed from the bottom of the frame rail in locations where our hitch mounts up. There's also one of the holes from where the brackets go from the frame to the bumper structure. Now on this vehicle there's one hole on the driver's side that wasn't used originally. We're going to go ahead and clean that out using a tube brush and some lubricant to help clean out the threads. Now the older the vehicle is, the more time this will take.

You may need a thread cap to go ahead and clean out the threads. The tube brush we will be using is Part Number 814092. Now back on our passenger side, there'll be one more hole that we have need to clean out as well. There'll be one of the holes that are vertical underneath the bumper structure just above the exhaust. We'll spray it down and clean it out too. At this point, we'll go ahead and lift the hitch up and install our hardware.

Now you'll definitely want to have an extra set of hands to help maneuver this over the exhaust and install the hitch up into the frame. Now the bolts we're going to use to start off with will be the bolts that go horizontal. Those will go through the hitch and into the bumper structure underneath. Now when installing bolts we'll also install conical washers. You'll also want to make sure that the teeth in the washers always stays toward the hitch. Once our bolts are loose installed, we'll go ahead and snug the bolts down to draw the hitch back as close to bumper as possible. We still want to leave it a little bit loose so we can move it left and right, so we can align the rest of the holes at the bottom of the frame. At this point we'll go ahead and install the rest of the fasteners on the driver's side and on the passenger's side our exhaust we raised up. Our bolts will go through the exhaust bracket, then through the hitch, then into the frame. At this point we'll go ahead and continue installing the rest of the hardware. Now as we install the hardware you may notice that the one well nut that's on the outside edge of the frame that's hooked to it by a tab may be off-center from the hitch. They may have used a tool . We're using a simple alignment tool to help bring it back into alignment. You may have to thread it in a few times to make sure you get the correct angle. Once all our hardware is installed, then we can go ahead and tighten down everything and then torque down all the bolts as specified in the instructions. Then we can go ahead and reinstall the rest of the fasteners for our exhaust and remove our strap. That's what it takes to install our hitch for Part Number C12343 from Curt on our 2007 Toyota Camry. .
