Note: Consult vehicle's owner's manual to determine which fuse to pull. Do not install a fuse in the Blue Ox Fuse ByPass that has more than a 20-amp rating.
Some automobiles can only be towed if you get under the hood and pull a fuse. If you don't remove this fuse before towing, there's a good chance that your car's battery will be drained by the time you reach your destination.
With the Blue Ox Fuse ByPass, once the initial installation is complete, you won't have to remove or replace your fuse again. Just pull the fuse indicated in your car's owner's manual and replace it with the bypass. After you install the Fuse ByPass, insert the removed fuse into the holder of the bypass system. With the fuse installed in this manner, it will still be able to function as needed. Mount the included switch near the fuse box and you're set.
Whenever you need to drive your car, just make sure the switch is flipped into the "on" position. When on, the fuse will be active and your vehicle will function normally. Then, when it comes time to tow, switch the Fuse ByPass to "off." When off, the fuse will be rendered inactive so that you can flat tow your car without its battery being drained.

Today on our 2011 Chevrolet HHR we're going to be showing you to how to install the blue ox fuse bypass switch for towed vehicle. Excepting the ATM mini fuse and ten inches long, part number is bx88271. The blue ox fuse bypass is going to be an excellent solution for those vehicles where fuses need to be removed for it to go into tow mode. Essentially what we're going to do is just replace that fuse into the fuse bypass. Then when we turn our switch in the down position it would be just like pulling that fuse out of the power block. That's going to allow us to go into tow mode without pulling this whole panel off trying to figure out which fuse it is and pull it out.
Now, when we're ready to unhook our vehicle and go back into drive mode, by flipping our switch into the other position, that's going to be just like plugging that fuse back in. We're going right from our tow mode right into our drive mode without every having to fumble with those fuses. In some cases you could have two or three or four fuses that needed to be taken care of. These can easily be just stacked up one right on top of the other. Flip them all into drive mode. Flip them all into tow mode.
It's a very good and quick solution for those fuse pulling issues. What we're going to do is pop out this panel. We're actually going to be using a bypass which will basically just be a switch that we can flip, when we want to go from tow mode to non two mode. What we're looking for is the number eight fuse. From the top right corner it's the third one down.
It's going to be a small key lamp fuse, ignition switch, pass key three plus. That's our area. Fuse number eight. Let's get that guy pulled out of there and set that fuse aside, get our fuse bypass. I'm going to pull the connectors right here off this back side of it. You need to take the nut off the back.
Then we want this to pass through our panel here in a safe area. What I mean by safe area is we certainly don't want it to go in and hit anything. We don't want it to take any of the information off of our door. It looks like in this area would be a good spot. It really doesn't have much going on behind it. Look right in there. It should be a pretty good location. Take a three quarter inch hole saw and we'll want to cut that out. We'll get out switch threaded in or pushed in. Whatever works for you. Then on the backside let's thread our nut on there. We don't need a tremendous amount of force on here. Just torque it down enough to where it gets a good hold. Plug our connectors back in. Our two amp fuse is going to go in the holder that's on the bypass here. Pop the cover on there and then we need these to go in where the fuse came out. Again, needle nose will come in handy here. All right. Now we always want to just coil that and we can put our panel back in place. With our switch working as it should that's going to complete the installation of the blue ox fuse bypass switch, part number bx88271, on our 2011 Chevrolet HHR.

installed the bypass in my car took about 30 minutes works real good so far a little hard to get the two wires plugged in but once i did rest was easy sorry i dont have a camera

I will not be able to try and install this item in my tow vehicle until mid-April and see if it works as advertised on-line and in videos. I just hope I ordered the right length to fit my vehicle.

The fuse by-pass was easy to install with the instructions provided. I tow a 2008 Saturn Vue behind my 2008 Bounder M/H. Before this wonderful device, I had to remove a fuse to tow the car, and install the fuse before driving the vehicle. Now it's a simple switch and I'm set. The only thing I would change is the leads that go into the fuse panel. It would be SSSSOO much easier if the leads were together rather than separate.

Clean easy installation using this prefab harness. Easy to install and worked as advertised. 2016 Chevy Equinox 4cyl. I put the switch into the fuse panel door inside the cabin. With Fuse 32 (5 amp) out of the circuit it turns off the accessories when the key is in the ACC position.

- Can 2021 Chevy Traverse AWD Be Flat TowedYes, the AWD 2021 Chevy Traverse can be flat towed. If you flip to page 316 and 317 the process will be outlined. It's a bit more involved than just putting the vehicle in park or neutral. There is also no mention of if a fuse needs to get pulled.

The simplest option would be to install the Blue Ox Fuse ByPass Switch for Towed Vehicles - ATM Mini-Fuse - 10" Long Item # BX88271 and then just using the switch to cut the power draw when not needed.
