The RetraxPRO MX offers the most security and the best protection for the items in your truck bed. This aluminum tonneau cover has a snow load of 500 lbs and can withstand impacts and inclement weather. And you can secure this retractable cover at any point along the rails with an easy-to-use, locking handle, all to ensure that your gear stays safe and protected.

Smooth, Retractable Operation

Retrax sealed ball-bearing rollers

This tonneau cover retracts quickly and easily for complete truck bed access. It does this by gliding along the side rails with sealed ball-bearing rollers, which also prevent the cover from binding or retracting unevenly. The RetraxPRO MX has no joints or hinges that can wear out, freeze, or trap dirt. It does not need to be lubricated and it has no springs that can fail. Unlike other truck bed covers on the market, you won't have to struggle with pull straps, hook-and-loop fasteners, or snaps every time you open and close the cover.

Retrax pop-up handle

At the end of the cover, on the driver's side, there is a pop-up handle that makes it easy to slide the cover up and down the length of your truck bed with just one hand. The handle must be popped up for the tonneau to move, but you can push or pull the cover to guide it along the rails from either side of your truck.

Retrax spiral track system

When not in use, the cover rolls up into a space-saving storage canister at the bulkhead of your truck, so you'll never have to remove the tonneau to access your cargo. This canister has a unique spiral track system that keeps the cover from coming into contact with itself while it's retracted. This helps prevent wear and tear on the cover while you're opening and closing it.

Retrax canister with drain tube

With the cover fully retracted, the entire canister assembly only takes up a small portion of your truck bed. And the angled bottom of the canister gives you more space to slide long items or small gear underneath it.

Maximum Security and Protection for Your Cargo

Retrax lid covers key

When the RetraxPro MX is closed, potential thieves will find it nearly impossible to access the items in your truck bed. The locking handle is mounted flat and is concealed with a lid, keeping it well hidden from prying eyes. This flat, weather-guarded lid also keeps out dirt and debris to prevent internal corrosion in the keyhole, ensuring that the lock lasts longer and won't seize up.

Retrax lock and pop-up handle

To unlock the cover, lift the lid on the lock, insert and twist the key, and press the button to release the pop-up handle. Once the handle is up, you can slide the cover back.

Latch Retrax cover anywhere on rails

You can latch the cover at any position along the rails by pushing the handle back down. This lock-in-place feature enables you to carry long items that overlap your tailgate while still covering cargo, such as a tackle box, that's stored closer to the bulkhead of the truck.

Retrax cover operates independent of the tailgate

This cover is better at preventing cargo theft than soft covers, which can be cut open with a knife. It also cannot be pried up at the edges like some hard, folding covers. As a result, your cargo and truck bed are secure when this cover is closed and latched, as long as you lock your tailgate as well. Conveniently, the cover operates independent of the tailgate, so you can open and close the tailgate without touching the cover, and you can open and close the cover without disturbing the tailgate.

Retrax weather strip

To keep snow, water, and dust out of your bed, the tonneau cover includes weather stripping and foam seals. An automotive-grade weather strip ensures a firm, dependable seal along the bulkhead of your truck. Attached to the bottom of each side rail is a foam seal that conforms to the shape of your bed rails. These seals help to prevent any scratches on your bed rails as well as fill any gaps to keep your cargo from getting wet or dirty. The cover also overlaps the top of the tailgate for additional protection against intrusive dirt and debris.

Durable, Long-Lasting, and Attactrive Cover

Retrax attractive cover

The RetraxPRO MX is constructed of heavy-duty aluminum slats that are 1" thick. They have excellent dent and impact resistance to keep the tonneau from getting damaged by falling debris or by thieves who attempt to break in by force. In addition, this cover can hold up to 500 lbs of snow or evenly distributed weight when it's rolled out. And on top of that, its durable matte black finish is weather and scratch resistant.

Retrax drain tube

To prevent mildew from forming on the cover while it's rolled up, the RetraxPRO MX features a water management system that channels excess water out of the storage canister. Two drain tubes attach to the bottom of the canister to remove any water that gets inside. The tubes then route water through the existing drain holes in the floor of your truck bed, ensuring that the stored cover remains as dry as possible.

Retrax flush design

When rolled out, this tonneau sits nearly flush with the back of the canister to give a streamlined look. In addition to the flush-mounted locking handle, the sleek frame features a top panel that overlaps the bulkhead of the truck and storage canister, eliminating the gap in between.

Retrax extends over 5th wheel

The low-profile side rails mount just 1" above your truck bed, which offers a sleek look while still providing enough clearance for most 5th-wheel hitches to remain installed beneath the cover.

Easy, No-Drill Installation

Retrax installation parts

To install the RetraxPRO MX, begin by attaching the side rails to the canister with the provided screws.

Retrax installation

Because the cover comes preinstalled inside of the canister, it will take 2 people to lift the assembled unit and place it on your truck. Once the cover is in position, make sure that the side rails are square on your truck bed rails. Then secure them in place with the bolt-on clamps. Finally, install the drain tubes in the canister and route them through the factory holes in your truck bed.

Video Transcript for RetraxPRO MX Retractable Hard Aluminum Tonneau Cover Installation - 2023 GMC Sierra 3500

Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we have a 2023 GMC Sierra 3500 and we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the Retrax Pro MX hard retractable tonneau cover. Adding a tonneau cover to your truck is gonna be the first step to protecting the contents on the inside of your truck bed, from water, from theft, any of those things. A hard and retractable tonneau cover is going to be a great way to do both, both keeping water out and keeping the contents safe. There's a lot of tonneau covers out there that are soft tonneau covers and someone could simply take a knife, cut it open, and see what's inside your bed and perhaps take what's in there. This tonneau cover is gonna be a nice, sturdy aluminum construction.

It's gonna be very, very difficult to get into this. People are gonna see it and they're not even gonna try. It's gonna have a lock on it too so that you can lock it up. What I like about it is that Retrax actually advertises this as you can use it as a small load stop, so when you open up your tonneau cover, a lot of people will carry different things in the bed of your truck so if you're carrying a elongated load, say some boars or some ladders out the bed of your truck, what you wanna do is you'll still wanna tie 'em down, but then you can slam your tonneau cover up against it and then lock this anywhere along the way and it's gonna help keep those items in place. To open and close this tonneau cover, you just have to unlock the cylinder, push this button, and then this lever acts as your handle.

If you have it set up right, the spring mechanism inside your tonneau cover should allow you to open and close your tonneau cover with ease. Over time, it may take some adjusting. We all know that truck beds may get out of whack from over the years. If you haul a heavy load in it your truck bed may not be perfectly square anymore or it may not be perfectly square from the factory, who knows But we've got this one dialed in pretty good so that it's nice and easy to open for the owner of this vehicle. With the cover completely open, the canister's gonna take up about 12 inches in front of your, up by your bulkhead, which is not a huge deal on a shorter bed truck you will still have some space underneath.

I have this cover on my personal truck and I really like it. The only time I do miss this space is when I'm going on a camping trip or something like that and I have a lot of taller items and I really need all the space in the bed of my truck. But if you're using this on a daily basis to carry tools in the bed of your truck this is gonna be the ultimate way to protect them. The other thing is if you're using it for a to carry a fifth wheel or gooseneck, you can have all your items from camping, including your fifth wheel head still in the bed of your truck, as long as you have it set the top of the head below the rails, you're gonna be able to close the cover when you get to your campsite, (covers sliding) hide that fifth wheel, and not have to worry about anybody taking it. The tonneau cover rails are gonna be about a 1/4 of an inch here on this lip above your bed rails.

This taller part, in order for the mechanism to slide in and out of it, will be about 3/4 of an inch, but as you can see, it has a nice clean look. I think these really do add to the looks of your truck. The other thing that this tonneau cover's gonna feature is it has a 500 pound evenly distributed weight capacity, so I know with my personal tonneau cover, what I'll do is if I'm carrying a box or we're getting ready to go on a trip and I have some luggage, I will set them up here and then I can get a hand, open up my tailgate and then be able to slide things in the end or set it on the tailgate, open the cover up, what have you. With a soft cover, you're not gonna be able to do that. You're gonna end up stretching the fabric, potentially ripping it, but it's pretty strong so you definitely want to use that to your advantage. If you have some building materials, you can set stuff up here, but again, make sure that you have the weight evenly distributed if you decide to do that. Now one thing to note with these tonneau covers, it's not going to be waterproof. Almost every tonneau cover, you're gonna have a little bit of water getting in, especially if you go through a car wash. If you go through a car wash with your truck, these can handle either the touchless or the car washes with the mops, but what I will say, we'll show you some footage of me going through a car wash with my tonneau cover. That is the hybrid version of the Retrax. It's a little bit lighter duty one, but that's definitely one thing to think about. A lot of people ask me the first time when they're looking for a tonneau cover, the first thing they ask is, "Is it watertight" And I can confidently say there's no tonneau cover out there that is going to be 100% watertight. There's just too many crevices where it can get in, but the best thing you can do is check your seals on a regular basis. If you have water just coming in the front right cab corner, then maybe undo the cover, put a little bit extra foam in there, and then that should help with the water intrusion. With that being said, let's go ahead and take it inside and show you how we got it in place. To begin putting the cover together, we're going to start by removing the screw, which is going to release this packing bracket. You wanna save this 'cause we're gonna use it as a measuring tool later on in the install. (drill whirring) There we go. And we can take this strip out of here, pull this tape off, and we'll remove this tube that's holding our roll together. We'll do that same thing for both sides. To get our rails in place, we'll need to unlock the latch mechanism here because with it closed the brake is on, so it's not gonna be able to slide in. We'll take our rail, pull our cover out about six to eight inches, start sliding it in, and then bring it back 'till it lines up with our two brackets on either side. You can see our holes are lined up here and here. We can get our screws in place. We'll take the two screws included in the kit, (drill buzzes) get them tightened down. (drill whirring) With both of our rails installed, we take our, the back cover plate, slide it underneath our rail until you get your holes to line up on both sides. We'll take the included screws and fasten those down. You'll need a 1/8" Allen head to get these in place. (drill buzzing) With an extra set of hands, we'll lift up our assembly. Gonna hold one hand on the drum, another one on the rail, slide it into the bed and go all the way up to the bulkhead and just set it down. When installing this, you wanna make sure that this rubber strip is flipped up. We don't want it to be folded under like it is right now. We need to pull this out. There we go, just like that. Next we're gonna be up inside the bed of our truck. You wanna close your tailgate and these packing brackets that we we're talking about earlier, you'll want to use this top thinner portion up here to line up this bottom portion of your rail. You can see here it's way too far away from it, so we'll grab our rail, and this is gonna be heavy and we'll, yeah, push it up like that 'till it's tight. And then make sure it's centered over there and pull it out, and that's the correct distance you want each rail to be from your tailgate. It gives it enough room for the tailgate to close, for this seal to be as far over the tailgate as we can get it. Next up we're gonna be putting on our brackets. Before you put your brackets on, if you have a space in between the bed cap that comes over the side and the side of your bed, so the sheet metal itself back here, if you have a space in it, you can see under here we do not, but if you have a certain type of bed cap, you may have a little bit of a gap in there. Your kit will include rubber spacers that you'll wanna, it's a shim that you'll slide up in there between the bed cap and the actual metal on your bed. We don't have to worry about 'em because ours is tight. They just want you to put that in there so that you don't crack the bed rail. If it's got too much space, it may bend it too much. But we're gonna take our brackets, the long side is gonna go on the back side. The bolt head will be facing you and this portion here is going to fit up in between these two Allen head plastic screws. So we'll slide it on the back side. Slide up in between them. There we go. And you'll feel a little bit of a lip on the backside of your rail. You just want this clamp on the backside to be above that and we'll leave it there loosely for now while we get the other three installed. Now we'll wanna push down on the tops of our rails in order to get a good seal. Use a 14 millimeter socket to tighten these brackets down. (ratchet clicking) Don't go too hard on these. Check your instructions. These will have to be torqued down. (torque wrench clicking) (torque wrench beeping) Now before we test out our cover by sliding it out, we're gonna take a small piece of paraffin wax and run it in the channel. This is gonna help the rails to slide a lot better. It's better than those steel rollers on these aluminum rails. You'd be surprised the difference. And if you have one of these tonneau covers already and you're just looking to how to put it back in, I'd definitely recommend doing this. With our wax all in place, we can open up our cover and you want a little bit of resistance, but not much that you have to pull too hard. (cover sliding) Close it up. Looks like we have a good tight seal here. What I might do is I might, (cover sliding) I might loosen 'em just a tad, but otherwise that's pretty good. You want it to kind of go in back by itself (cover sliding) and it'll get a little looser the more times you do it. (cover sliding) The last thing we're gonna need to do is put our drain tubes in and what we found with these, the GMCs, is that they have these pre-drilled holes up here in the front and if you don't wanna have to drill out the hole in order to fit the drain tube down in it, you can pick up these barbed fittings on our website. There we go. And then this, the smaller portion is what's gonna go down inside of this. And once we have the tube connected, there should be more than enough pressure on that in order to keep it down inside that hole. Find the hole in the bottom of our tank and pop our drain tube in place. I'd like to, if I can, spin these around the back so that the remainder of our tube is back there. With everything operating smoothly and our drain tubes all in place, that's gonna do it for the installation.

I got the replacement cover quickly and I installed it soon after. A great asset for my truck.

by:

The cover was easy to install and looks fantastic

by:

I love this cover. I had one on a different truck, but it had the rails that could be used for a bike, kayak or ladder rack. I thought I had purchased the same rails, but when received, found that it was not the same. I didn’t realize it until after I installed it. Wish I had noticed it earlier as the rails to replace are $500. Be certain you order carefully.

by:

By far the best bed cover I’ve ever used. Well designed and built, & lockable.
Performs flawlessly on my F-250.

by:

It works great but LEAKS like a sieve! I’ve tried gasketing the tailgate adjusting the rails. No help. For the money I expected better! Very disappointed.

by:

I have owned this roll top truck bed cover for a year now and still absolutely love it. I've owned other similar ones over the past twenty five years and this one is and has been the best. Sturdy, solid and so far, maintenance free. It certainly more weather (water) resistant as well. It definitely was more expensive than the other covers I've purchased in the past but the bitterness of poor quality remain forever and the higher cost of something well made are soon forgotten as you use the product everyday. Highly recommend.

by:

A very nice cover. So far, it’s kept the bed and it’s contents dry. I had the face of the cartridge (the part that becomes the rear of the bed) sprayed with Line-X to match the rest of the bed and to offer some degree of protection. But the metal is very thin there and it didn’t take long for it to become dented. Also the drain fittings that attach to the bottom of the cartridge are delicate. I’ve had to order replacement fittings and it looks like the second set have broken again.

What I appreciate the most is this cover is low profile (works with my fifth wheel) and can be operated from the side and locked in position wherever I'd like. Just the other day I took note of someone with a different brand that required a rope to pull closed. I'm glad I went with the aluminum version as it feels and sounds solid. The finish has stayed great looking. After watching a few installation videos while waiting for it to arrive, the process went very smoothly. The only time I needed assistance was in lifting the assembled parts up onto my truck.
Here are the things I wish were better/different:
Front seal - the instructions state to trim the front rubber seal to follow the lines of the hardware (so there isn't a little exposed flap of rubber). Having done that, the small pieces on the sides have vibrated out into the newly empty space. This is a minor thing.
Mounting system - I installed the mounts as instructed, and did not over-tighten things. A number of months later I spent the day exploring on some unpaved Utah backroads. The bumps caused all four of the mounts to let go, drop into the bed of the truck, and the whole cover system shifted around on the truck. I contacted etrailer and their advice was to tighten the mounts more aggressively and they'd replace the screws if I damaged them. I have not had the issue repeat itself.
Locking Partially Open - This has worked very well until recently. I can have the cover 25% of the way closed while towing, protecting the items at the very front of the bed. However I now want to have the cover 90% closed and locked when I have a tailgate pad installed on my truck for carrying bicycles (and this is when the bikes are not with me). When I do this and drive around, the cover slides open a foot or two from when I've been hitting the brakes. I haven't tried to figure out how to correct this yet as it is a new issue.
Overall I'm very happy and would buy the RetraxPRO again.

by:

One year later it's still like new! eTrailer shipped it to a Campground we were at for a few days as we Travel around the Country full time. The box was heavy but it was delivered to our RV Door. Minimal assembly is required. It's all heavy Aluminum 2 inch wide Role Cover Slats that will support up 500 lbs of weight on top. So if you are Boon Docking you can go get Water putting the 50 gallon Bladder on top and your 35 gallon Waste Tote on the Bed. The original reason for the purchase was to keep Dirt, Leaves, Rain and People out of the Bed when not hooked up, which is most of the time even when traveling. It is a GREAT Cover !

by:

Love the looks and ease of install and function of cover. After ordering and THEN finding the cover was NOT in stock, I contacted etrailer for shipping updates only to be advised it was backordered several weeks. Contacted Retrax directly and got solid information on delivery(which was actually before scheduled date). Unfortunately it arrived looking like it was thrown out of a 2nd floor window and the spirals were destroyed. Retrax customer service is top notch and had a replacement canister shipped quickly.

by:

Excellent product. The retractable cover opens smoothly and easily, and it locks very securely. The installation instructions were very clear and easy to follow -- and there are some helpful videos Took me about 90 minutes to install. I'm very happy with this truck bed cover. It's not cheap, but it appears to be a well-made product.

by:

Works and looks great. Came missing one adjustment screw and manufacturer immediately sent not one, bu several replacement screws, no questions asked. Wasn't sure if it would be worth the price but over one year of ownership it's proven to be second only to a winch as the best truck tool/accessory I've owned.

by:

This product was very easy to install and is made of good quality. After having this on the truck for about a year it still works perfect and looks like new.

by:

Great product, great directions and great fit.

by:

Very nice product with excellent installation instructions and videos.

by:

The product surpassed the manufacture d ecription
