The UltraGroove is a retractable hard tonneau cover with integrated T-slots in the rails that allow you to add a roof rack or ladder rack to your vehicle. This enables you to carry kayaks, bikes, and other sports and recreation gear while leaving your bed free for more items. The cover's stylish ArmorTek construction consists of a vinyl fabric top sheet that is bonded to rigid aluminum panels, combining the seamless appearance of a soft tonneau with the security features of a hard tonneau. The enhanced weather seals ensure your gear stays clean and dry.
The UltraGroove retracts with one turn of a handle. The handle - located underneath the rear plate of the cover - activates a heavy-duty tension spring. This spring automatically retracts the cover into the canister at the bulkhead of your truck bed. A built-in pull strap helps you extend the cover over your bed. As you pull, the handle will unlock and the cover will engage the side rails at 12" intervals.
You can stop the cover at these designated intervals if you need to carry tall or long items that overlap your tailgate while still covering cargo, such as a toolbox, stored closer to the bulkhead of the truck. You can also use the rear plate of the tonneau cover to pull it closed.
The tonneau cover's side rails include integrated T-slots that allow you to mount accessories directly to the cover. This Rail Expansion System (RES) runs the length of the side rails so you can positon your accessories - such as a ladder rack or roof rack - to accommodate different-size loads. This enables you to haul sports and recreation gear above your bed without interfering with the operation of the cover. The rails are also compatible with Pace Edwards EL200 ladder rack (sold separately).
These rails have rounded sides and curved endcaps that are sleeker and more streamlined when compared with other slotted tonneau cover side rails.
The cover retracts into a compact, angled canister located at the front of your truck bed. This canister protects the retracted cover from the elements, and with the cover stored in the canister you'll have unrestricted visibility out of your rear window. The angled design of the canister also allows for maximum useable cargo space in your truck bed.
The UltraGroove provides more protection from water and debris than many other covers on the market. Its rails feature a water management system that channels excess water into the canister. This prevents water from getting into your bed or freezing in your tonneau cover rails during cold temperatures. Drain tubes attached to the bottom of the canister remove water through the OE drain holes in the floor of your truck bed. Additional drain tubes at the end of the side rails also channel water out through existing drain holes in your truck bed side walls.
The cover side rails have rubber seals on the outside that conform to your truck bed rail caps and keep dirt and water out of your bed. The rails have seals on the inside to create another barrier that protects your cargo from water and dust. There are also endcaps that seal over the top edge of your tailgate to prevent leaking at the corners. Lastly, a large seal at the rear of the bed closes the gap between the cover and your tailgate to shield your cargo from runoff water.
The curved side rails and endcaps sit approximately 1" above the truck bed rails for a low-profile look. This sleek design is aerodynamic to reduce wind drag, and it helps to improve gas mileage when cover is closed.
The UltraGroove deck is constructed of a vinyl top layer bonded to heavy-duty aluminum slats. This ArmorTek deck looks like a soft tonneau cover with no visible seams, but has the strength and security of a hard tonneau cover. The rails are constructed of extruded aluminum with a black powder coat finish.
The UltraGroove provides excellent protection for your cargo when used in conjunction with a closed and locked tailgate. Both the handle and pull strap are located underneath the rear plate, which makes them inaccessible when your truck bed is closed. The durable aluminum panels are better at preventing theft when compared with soft covers that can be cut or punctured with a knife. The panels are also more effective at preventing theft than a tri-fold hard tonneau cover because the panels cannot be pried open at any point along the rails.
To install the cover, set the canister in your truck bed and support it with a box or other sturdy object. Slide the cover side rails into the canister until they are fully seated in the rail grips while also threading the cover into the channels in the rails. Secure the rails to the canister with bolts and washers.
Attach the rails to the canister, then secure the rails to your truck's bed rails using 2 clamps per side. Slide the clamp onto the rail, flip the pivot arm up so it is under the bed rail lip, and tighten the clamp in place. Shims are included for trucks with tapered beds.
Each clamp at the tailgate end of the rails has a supplemental kickstand to help level the rails and prevent overtightening during installation. To install the kickstand, simply slide it into the grip handle at the bottom of the clamp. Rotate the kickstand so the foot rests squarely against the side wall of the truck bed, and tighten in place.
Mount the top cover plate to the canister with the included hardware. Install 2 drain tubes to the rear of the rails and 2 drain tubes to the canister. Route each tube out of the OEM drain holes in your truck bed.
To hold the pull strap off the floor of your truck bed, apply the adhesive hook-and-loop fastener strip onto the underside of a rail at your desired location.

Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the line of Pace Edwards UltraGroove retractable hard tonneau covers. Now, the UltraGroove is gonna come in a variety of different sizes and fitments for different trucks. Be sure to put your vehicle's information into our fit guide, so you get the correct cover for your year make model of truck. Otherwise though, they're all gonna function the same way, just with those different fitments. And what really sets the UltraGroove apart is the track on the bed rails here.
This is going to allow us to mount a variety of accessories like this ladder rack you see here. We can slide those into the T-track here back and forth along the entire length of the tonneau cover and allow us to mount some things up top, whether it be a kayak, whether it be a tent or a basket like we have here, it's gonna really expand the functionality of our truck. We don't have to sacrifice anything just because we have a tonneau cover on, we can still have these accessories and mount that stuff up top while keeping everything in the bed locked up and safe. Now, when I say locking, there aren't necessarily any locks on the tonneau cover itself. It's gonna work in conjunction with your locking tailgate to keep everything secure inside.
Now, you might be wondering, what's gonna stop someone from just breaking through the cover itself, and that's where the construction comes in. It's going to be made up of a series of aluminum panels on the inside, so no one can just come by with a knife and cut it open. It does have that look of a soft tonneau cover with that vinyl covering on top, but that is only going to be covering those aluminum panels, so it's nice and durable and no one's gonna be able to get through it very easily. And even though we've got those accessories mounted in the channels on the rails here and some stuff up top, we still retain full functionality of our tonneau cover, giving us the same bed access that we had before. Really simple to do.
And the Pace Edwards here works really well and it's really simple to operate too. So, if we need to get into the bed to get something, we can. If we wanna cover it up and have all our stuff up top, that's an option too. It really just gives us the full use of our truck while still having that space up top. And that T-track is really easy to access on your tonneau cover.
Just come to the end of your rails here where you've got this slightly enlarged portion, that's where we can drop in the bolts for our accessories and slide them down anywhere along the tonneau cover or slide them here to take them off. And with that in mind, let's go ahead and get this ladder rack removed and check out the cover a bit closer. A lots of times, with these tonneau covers, you have to pick and choose, whether you want the cover or whether you want something like a ladder rack. But with this, we have the option to have both. With these slots here on our rails, we can slide in accessories and adjust them back and forth along the whole length of the tonneau cover and those uprights will sit on top of the bed, so we can independently operate our tonneau cover and still have the bed covered up but also have that raised storage above the bed. It is going to be a retractable tonneau cover, so everything retracts into a canister in the bed whenever we're not using it. So, underneath here, we've got a handle that we can simply turn and latch in right there, that's gonna have this unlocked. And then just push the cover back. It'll slide up into the canister here really simply, you don't have to walk it back or anything like that. And everything is contained up here towards the cab of the truck where we don't have to worry about it as much. When you're trying to figure out what tonneau cover is right for your truck and your application, you've got a couple different options. My personal favorite is this canister-style because I think it's the most out of the way. You've got the soft roll-up covers that will have a roll kind of right up here, kind of blocking the back window a little bit, but they're just not as nice. Then you also have the tri-fold ones that are big panels that are typically hard covers, but they fold up in three sections. And oftentimes, when you have it fully folded up, it's gonna completely block your window. These canister ones are really nice because it's not gonna block anything here and it's gonna take up minimal bed space. That is the one downside here is that we have the canister in the bed, but it isn't going to fully take up the bed. There's room underneath where I can still slide in lumber, anything like that, that has an elongated load, where we need to have it up against the cab of the truck here, but we still have everything contained and in a nice, sealed package. Now, the integrated handle makes it really easy to, again, operate the cover from the tailgate so we can pull it out. And you'll hear these latches happening all throughout. So, at 12-inch intervals, we've got different stops here. So, if we have a partial load, maybe some ladders or something kinda sticking out in the back and propped up on the tailgate, we don't have to have this thing fully open. We can have it partially closed to account for that. Still get some coverage, but also have it open for that elongated load. I really like this. And I like having the handle to do it because it makes the whole process a lot simpler. I will say that Retrax has a very similar style of tonneau cover that has these rails and that is retractable into a canister, but I like that retraction a lot better because you can stop that at any point along the rails here, so we don't have to be limited to those 12-inch intervals. That's a really big upside for me because I can have all that fine-tuning adjustment that I want. The downside to that is I don't think it works as smoothly as the Pace Edwards here. This one is a much smoother glide in operation. It has that handle so I can operate it all from a tailgate. The Retrax does not and you have to kind of walk it back. And sometimes it gets a little bound up on the rails because you're pulling it from one side, it's just kind of a hassle. So, those are the upsides and downsides comparing the two. One other comparison I will make is just the overall sturdiness of the cover. Even though this is a hard cover, it does have a bit of flex to it. The Retrax one is very solid. So, if you we're to bring a tool bag or something, something kinda heavy and set it up on top of the tonneau cover while you get the tailgate opened, I would feel a little bit more comfortable setting that load on the Retrax than I would on the Pace Edwards here, just because we do have a bit of flex. Overall, though, this is still going to be a lot better than a just traditional soft tonneau cover because it does have that metal underneath to protect against anyone trying to cut it open or get inside. It's going to be really sturdy. As far as the aesthetics go, I think this looks really good on the truck here. The end rails here just kinda taper off naturally towards the end of the truck. And it all looks very factory. There's not any weird gaps. All the weather seals sit really flush here, so it makes me really confident in its ability to resist rain and water intrusion. If water does get inside, you do have drains integrated on the end rails and on the canister, so you don't have to worry about that pooling up in your bed. But I think water's gonna have a hard time getting in to begin with, just 'cause everything sits on here so well and does fit very nicely. At the highest point, it only sticks up about an inch from your bed rails, so it is going to be fairly low profile, keeping it nice and sleek, and you don't really notice it too much when it's on the truck. It doesn't stick out. Next, to some of those drain points, you can see the clamps that actually hold this in place. Everything attaches really well. And you've got these small supports on the other side too, to help support the weight if you do have a ladder rack on here. So, just pushing down with my hand, everything feels very solid. Sometimes, with other tonneau covers, you'll feel a bit of flex there when you push down like that. So, I am confident putting a loaded weight up here with a ladder rack and it's gonna be secure. And speaking of how it attaches, let's check out that install process now. The first step of our installation is to get the canister out of the box and remove these plywood protective sides. We've just got these 10-millimeter screws holding it in. We'll undo those on both sides of the canister here and discard the plywood. At this point, you can lift the canister up into the bed. I've got it up here just on my own. It's not too heavy. The only thing you might have to worry about is just if your arms are long enough to kinda reach across the whole canister here, but the actual weight isn't bad. You'll notice on this side, there's a label that says cab side, so that's going to go towards our cab. And I'm just gonna set it on something elevated. So, I've got these plastic totes in here right now to kinda set it above the bed rails, so we can install the actual rails of the cover. For our rails, we wanna make sure we get the correct side. I can tell this is the driver's side because this rubber flange here faces the outer edge of the vehicle. And we want the rounded portion towards the tailgate. Up here, it's nice and flat, so we know that goes towards our cab. Now, up here on the canister, we've got a little latch. You can kinda push this in by hand. If it moves around a little bit, it might pop out. But if you can get that to stay in, that's gonna help the installation here a lot better. And we've got this metal track. There's a little lip right here and a hole for our screw. What I'm gonna do is kinda tilt the rail into place and kinda try to catch it on that outer lip right there. So, I can get it lined up here, and this will be hard to see. So, it'll be more of a feeling thing once you get it at home. But you can kinda line up the rail with that lip, rotate it down, we might have to kinda back it up a little bit here, we'll rotate it down right here. And once it's rotated down flat, you can get it to slid in. Again, this is a little tricky to do. You can see, it's starting to move a little bit there. And it's maybe helpful with an extra set of hands to kinda steady the canister while you're doing this and help guide it in, but it is doable on your own. And we wanna get it in to where the threaded holes on the bottom of the rail here line up with that hole on the canister that we just checked out. So, underneath, we're gonna have our screws, Phillips-head screws with a lock washer and a flat washer. So, just kinda get that guided into place and we can start to thread it in. It looks like right about there. It's getting started, so just run that down, get it tightened up and we can repeat that on both sides. And at this point, the whole assembly can rest on the bed rails of our truck. So, I'm just going to lift up and remove our little totes we are using as supports. When you do this, just make sure everything is mostly centered up. We can get a better and more accurate measurement of this later. We wanna make sure it's all resting in there nice and neat. At this point, we're ready to shut the tailgate and kinda test the fitment of the rails here. We wanna pull them pretty much as close to the tailgate as they'll go. You can actually get a pretty good grip on it here and pull them kinda by the T-track here and just make sure everything's sitting fairly evenly here. We actually have an included tool that we can use to check the spacing and everything here to make sure it's spaced properly from the tailgate. And here's a better look at that little tool. We are gonna have a bunch of little notches coming off of it. And this smaller one here, that's gonna be about a quarter of an inch. And that's gonna be able to check our spacing between the end of the rail right here and our tailgate. So, as long as that fits in there and kinda touches on both sides, we should be all good with our spacing. At this point, we're gonna want to install the foam seal on the front of the bed right here. That's gonna sit underneath the top cover and help give us a better weather seal. We're not gonna be leaving this tonneau cover on today though, so we're not gonna peel the adhesive and actually stick it on. When you do that though, just make sure that you clean the area and get the surface nice and smooth, so that adhesive sticks and stays. Once that's been done though, we can take our top cover here and place it over top the canister here. We've got two holes, one on the other side that will line up with some threads on the canister. And we can use our provided screws to attach those. So, just slide that back. And once it's lined up, you should see this nice flush surface here, letting us know everything is even. And just run those screws down on either side and tighten them evenly. So, at this point, we just want to check on how level our rails are sitting. We can kinda come to the end of the truck bed where the camera is right now and look down the rail, just to see if it's sitting level with the bed rail or if it's kind of tilted down and into the truck bed. Ours is sitting pretty level right now. Once we get the clamps in place, it'll sit a little bit more normally. But if you aren't happy with that levelness, you can usually included shims here. That's going to just prop up the rail a little bit. To do that, all you gotta do is slide the whole assembly down towards the tailgate and install these shims, they've got some adhesive on the back, just underneath the canister here to kinda bring that end up. You can slide it back over, check that levelness again and see if you need to add another shim. Moving on to our clamp extensions, these are the pieces that are gonna be labeled. So, this one is BR, which is back right or back passenger's side. And all of them are gonna be labeled for the specific sides because we wanna make sure that these shims are facing the end of the vehicle here and everything's oriented the correct way. Now, if you come to the underside of the rail here, there's a small lip. I'm just gonna feel along there with my thumb. And then right about here, I feel a cutout. That's where the portion of the extension right there is gonna slot in. You can see, there's kind of a track system for it there, with that shim facing the outside. So, I'll come back to that cutout, get that lined up with the cutout and then slide it towards the tailgate here. And you can see here, it's kinda locked in and we just wanna line it up to where it's just lined up with the end of that cutout. And once it's sitting right there, we've got a portion right here where we can feed our 5/32 Allen up through, it'll go into that set screw that's in there, and we can just tighten that down to keep this in its place. Now, for the actual clamps, there is some slight differences to take note of. For these pieces here that actually slot into those clamp extensions, let me hold it maybe like this so you can see the difference, you've got a short one and a long one. I used the long one closer to the cab, and I'm gonna use the short one closer to the tailgate. Depending on your specific year make model, that might differ for you. So, just be sure to try them both out and see what fits best. And we can then take the other end of our clamp, slot this in, just like that, and then we can take this track portion and slide that into our clamp extension. Now, depending on how much room you have up here with a bed liner or something like that, that could also affect this. So, I'm gonna actually put this end of the clamp in first to that extension, it slots in just like that, and then meet the other end on the other side. This is going to be a pretty snug fit, much better on the tailgate end, though, than it was by at the cab. And this portion, let me grab another one here, with the rounded edge, that's gonna be pressing up against the actual bed rail on the inside edge, kind of clamping it together. So, just make sure it's all lined up properly. From here, we can actually take one of our threaded hand knobs and we've got two. One slightly longer for that longer end of the clamp. We're gonna be using the shorter one on this one. And on here, we're gonna add a lock washer, a flat washer. And then on the other side, we're gonna have this kind of threaded barrel. We're just gonna feed these threads through. And there is a notched portion on the other side that'll line up with the threads on that barrel. So, that barrel is gonna just kinda keep things sandwiched together here and serve as our plate on the other end. It might be a little tricky to get that started 'cause you're kinda working blind, but you can kinda peek around the side here and get that started. There we go. And from there, just kinda hold that barrel end in place, run the hand knob down and make sure everything is nice and snug before we go and repeat this process in the other three corners. And once all the clamps are installed, we can take our kick stands and take the wing nut off of this threaded end right here and we're gonna slide that through the hole that's kind of on our clamps right here. And once those threads are poking out the other side, we can add our washer, lock washer and wing nut there and we can snug that down most of the way, but we wanna leave some room to move and adjust this kickstand. We want that kickstand to be facing pretty much perpendicular to the side of our bed here. And we're just gonna rotate the plastic hand knob on that kickstand to extend it out. We wanna do that until it makes contact with the outside edge of our bed here. And make sure that it's not pointing too angled. So, if we need to, there's a slight angle right here on the inner edge of the bed, we can actually back this off a little bit and position this more upward to kind of match the angle of that part of the bed. Basically, we just want that foot to make really solid contact with wherever it's going to be going into. Right there seems to be pretty good, so we're just gonna get that tightened down and then we can tighten our wing nut here, just to make sure everything's secure and supported. Next, we can install our drain tubes, starting at the end of our rails here by the tailgate. We're just gonna have these black fittings that will thread into the bottom of the rails. You can kinda feel around, right there are the threads. And I will say, on our truck today, we actually have some pretty limited clearance here. We did a test fit and it does fit and it doesn't pinch the drain tube too much, so I don't think it should cause any issues. So, just get that threaded in, just hand tight is fine. And once that's attached, we can take our clear drain tube. And since we have pretty limited clearance here, we'll just kinda sneak it onto that fitting. You may have to kinda flex it out a little bit, but we can push that in place right there. And you see, it doesn't actually pinch that end, so we should get good flow through there. And then the other end can go out of our bed. Our truck today does have some factory holes made already, so we don't have to drill. But just keep in mind, depending on your truck, the package and the bed liner, you may have to drill some holes for these to route them outside the bed. So, for us, we're just going to feed it through that existing hole, face down, and all that water will drain down through this tube. So, it's gonna be a pretty tight squeeze for me under here but I'll do my best to stay out of the way and show you where the second drain tube's gonna go. We've got our free end here that'll go outside the bed. Again, we have a factory hole ready to go for us and we'll just feed that out. And then we've got our end with the blue seal. That's just going to push up into place on the canister with the preset holes. And that drain installation process that we did on the passenger's side here will get repeated on the driver's side. With all of that complete, we're ready to test out the cover. You've got the strap here that you can use to pull it out. You'll hear it locking at those intervals. And then once it's at the end, we can shut our tailgate and check our seals and make sure everything is sitting on there properly, and it looks like it's all fitting really well, then we can go ahead and check the closing. To do that, we'll rotate our lever here to kinda lock that in. And then just push it back out. Everything goes really smooth. There's no binds or anything on the cover, so we know we're all set. So, if you're looking at a tonneau cover that's gonna work with a ladder rack or other accessories like this, you're gonna have two big options. We've got the Pace Edwards here, but we also have the Retrax system. Both are gonna have their own pros and cons. And I like both of them for different reasons. I think the Retrax is really nice because you can stop that cover at any point. And I think the panels on there are just a bit more sturdy, so I feel a little more confident in its security. But the Pace Edwards is really nice, too, because it just works so smoothly. The Retrax kinda gets bound up when you're opening and closing it a bit. It's still fairly smooth, but I feel like the Pace Edwards is effortless. And for me, that's gonna be a big deal. I want it to be easy to use on a day-to-day basis. So, for me, personally, I'd maybe go with this. You're gonna have the same sort of functionality with the rails there, but it's just gonna be easier to use. And that'll do it for our look at the line of Pace Edwards UltraGroove hard tonneau covers. Thanks for watching..

The cover is great, the directions not so much. Thankfully Brittany from etrailer sent links to some videos which helped tremendously with the installation. I did have difficulty with one side locking when fully closed and could not find any trouble shooting information in the directions or videos but did find a set screw that allowed me to adjust the stop and everything works quite well now. I love that the cover retracts smoothly and latches securely while still allowing for a ladder rack. Nice fit and finish.
The cover is fine, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. However, I ordered through etrailer because the listing stated that it would ship on dec 15. On Dec 18 when I called. I was told that it would ship on Dec 25, then before hanging up it was Dec 26. Yeah, it shipped on Dec 31. I didn’t get a phone call, text or email informing of any of these delays. (But, I did get an email asking for this review, on the day that the cover arrived).
Took my time installing it. For the most part no problems. I see some concerns around the tailgate. (Sealing) I like the ease of retracting and opening it. With tailgate locked, its very easy to open with a flat putty knife. Overall I Like the appearance and the way its constructed. Only had it a few days so time will tell.
I really like this cover after owning it for a year. Adam was a big help when I bought it and works very well and has ultra low profile which I like. I like the way it can snap into place and not only full open or close. Installation was pretty easy. We own a fifth wheel and this cover works excellent for our needs.
I have owned 2 of these covers. Had one on my 2500 that my wife and I liked so put one on my new 3500. I like the convience of being able to open/close the cover with little effort. There is no exposed lock that can be hacked/picked so the only way in is either destroy the metal cover or tailgate. I have been very happy with it and will have one on my next truck.
Really like this Edwards Ultra Grove Tonneau cover. Does everything I wanted it to do. Keeps my cargo dry, fairly secure, it wouldn’t be easy to break into. I installed it by myself self in about an hour. etrailer Installation video made install easy.
This is my second Pace Edwards UltraGroove, I really love it. I traded in my last truck and this topper was on it and still ran smooth after three years of opening and closing it thousands of times!
Received the Pace Edwards UltraGroove Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover in a box that was destroyed! The contents made it okay, except I did not receive the truck bed stake hole covers. I'm sure etrailer will make good on it as they have great customer service! However this review is for the cover and although the cover seems okay....the instructions totally suck! For $[XXXX] dollars, I expect more!

Still very happy almost a year after installing it on my 2020 F350 long bed. Every time I watch other people fiddle and diddle with their roll-up or fold-up tonneau covers, I know I made the right decision. It retracts nicely into the canister at the front of the bed, and easily pulls back as far as I need it to go. I tow a 5th wheel RV, and can pull the cover right up to the 5th wheel hitch, keeping some of the cargo under cover. The drain tubes work pretty well, keeping the bed dry, although the front 2 drain tubes periodically clog up with dirt and debris. It's a minor issue that's not difficult to deal with. I would buy this cover again should the need arise.
I’ve had my PE Ultra Groove hard tonneau cover on my 2019 RAM 1500 Bighorn for a year now and I’m very pleased with it. My biggest concern when I bought it was if it would be water tight. I’m happy to report that after a few heavy rain storms and several tripe through the car wash it hasn’t leaked at all. Far superior to the BackFlip cover I had previously.
It is very low maintenance as the only thing I need to do periodically is lube the track with 303 vinyl dressing so it retracts easily. It does “flutter” a bit at freeway speed but it doesn’t appear to be at all problematic.
This cover fit my truck bed to a T with nicely sized rubber seals along the edges. The UltraGroove allowed me to install a Yakima rack system that is the most sturdy of any racks I have owned in 20 years for my kayaks. All in all I couldn't be happier with this tonneau cover.
It's a well built tonneau cover. It was very difficult to install, but I got it done. It operates good and looks good. The only drawback, is it leaks water bad. In the spring, I'll silicone around the front two drain lines at the roller box, and on the top rear roller box cover plate. Hope it helps.
The installation instructions could be improved! They leave alot out! You discover that after yu have done other steps to install. Need more detail. I have been doing stuff simular for 50 years and found they left out important steps!
This is the first tonneau cover I have had, and it is working great. It was relatively easy to install, and has worked well for us.
Very nice Tonneau cover once installed. The paper instruction manual is though to understand. Good thing I found an installation video that was a great help.
