BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Operation Animation

Get the advantages of both a hard tonneau cover and a soft tonneau cover for your vehicle with the Revolver X2. This hybrid tonneau likely has an identity crisis. It's built like a hard cover, but it looks and acts like a soft cover. With the Revolver X2, you get the strength, durability, and security of a hard tonneau and the sleek look and convenience of a soft, roll-up tonneau - all while protecting your truck bed and cargo and helping to improve your fuel mileage.

Strong, Convenient Hybrid Design

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Closed and Rolled Up

The secret to the Revolver X2's versatility is the aluminum slats on the underside of the cover that make it strong, seamless, and flexible. These individual, hinged slats give the cover its rugged body, while also allowing enough flexibility for the cover to be rolled up. Atop the slats is a tough, 1-piece vinyl layer that adds to the tonneau's sleek look and overall durability while also keeping the slats perfectly aligned. As a result, the Revolver X2 will roll up evenly every time, unlike ordinary soft vinyl covers that can get lopsided as you maneuver them.

Low-Profile Appearance

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Low Profile and Open Stake Pockets

Unlike other tonneau covers that sit 1/2" or more above your truck bed rails, the Revolver X2 sits nearly flush with your rails for a clean, ultra-sleek look.

Full Truck Bed Access

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Open

The Revolver X2 gives you full use of your truck bed in a matter of seconds - just roll up the cover and secure it behind the cab. As a result, you can tote around all your gear without having to remove the tonneau. And because the Revolver X2 mounts inside your truck bed rails, you can still use your truck bed stake pockets to mount accessories like tie-down anchors.

Simple, One-Person Operation

The Revolver X2 is simple to operate. Following installation, just roll the cover out and press down on the rearmost slat at the tailgate to secure the tonneau in place.

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Locking Diagram

The built-in latches not only lock down the back end of the tonneau, but they also fasten the sides of the Revolver X2 along the length of the frame rails. The rail tooth runs the entire length of each frame rail. It rotates downward to lock the side rail into the sides of the cover.

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Release Cord

When the cover is rolled out and the rear slat is pressed down at the tailgate, the latches on both sides engage. When this happens, the integrated teeth pivot down and rest on top of each slat of the rolled-out cover. Closing the rear slat effectively pins the cover to the rails, ensuring that the cover stays closed from front to back. It's that simple - no Velcro to seal or snaps to wrestle with. When your tailgate is closed and locked, no one will be able to get through the cover, thereby safeguarding your truck bed and its contents. The cover automatically secures as the locking levers at the tailgate engage. These sturdy levers have reinforced gussets that give them added strength and durability. And they will never need adjustment.

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Release Cord

To roll up the cover, unlatch the rear slat by dropping the tailgate and pulling either of the 2 release cords located along the bottom corners of the slat's housing. Either cord will release both of the latches so that you can raise the rear slat. When the latches are disengaged, the teeth roll back into the frame rails, releasing the sides of the cover so that you can easily roll it up. Just fold the rear slat over and roll up the cover the rest of the way.

Then secure the tonneau behind the cab with built-in nylon straps and sturdy plastic buckles. These straps help to keep the bundled tonneau from contacting your cab while you drive. And 4 rubber bumpers act as cushioned barriers between the cover and your truck cab.

Heavy-Duty Construction

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Half Rolled Up

The Revolver X2's rugged aluminum and vinyl construction makes it an ideal match for your truck, no matter what you do while at work or play. This cover is strong enough to hold up to 400 lbs of evenly distributed weight when it's rolled out. The 1/4" thick, aircraft-grade aluminum slats are covered with a textured black vinyl skin for superior resistance to impacts, UV rays, and weather. This skin is what gives the tonneau its soft, sleek look. While the Revolver X2 may look like a soft cover, its aluminum skeleton provides exceptional security because it cannot be cut through in the same way that a standard soft vinyl cover can be.

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau cover underside

Felt strips on the underside of the tonneau help to keep the slats from scuffing the vinyl top as you roll up the cover. The soft felt also shields your hands when the cover has gotten hot or cold. And rubber strips overlay your truck's side rails, cab rail, and tailgate, creating a seal that helps to conceal any gaps and works to prevent water from seeping in.

Easy, No-Drill Installation

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Installation

Installing the Revolver X2 is simple. All you need is a wrench, and you don't have to do any drilling. The tonneau's frame rails clamp to the inside of your truck bed side rails to create a base for the cover. The included bolts secure the front hinge rail to the frame rails at the cab.

BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover InstallationBAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover Installation

Slotted brackets at the ends of the tonneau side rails allow the bolts to shift in case you need to adjust the cover to achieve a snug fit. These brackets ensure proper alignment of the tonneau frame on your truck bed side rails. This eliminates trial and error in installing your rails - you won't have to put them on and then take them off again to get the correct fit. Pre-installed shims and spacers also help to ensure that the Revolver X2 rails are installed squarely on your truck bed.

Video Transcript for BAK Revolver X2 Hard Tonneau Cover Installation - 2021 Jeep Gladiator

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the BAK Revolver X2. We are going to install it on a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. This is gonna be a good tonneau cover for your Gladiator. It's a good combination of vinyl and aluminum, so it has a vinyl top, so it looks like a soft tonneau cover. It's got that aluminum underneath, making it a hard tonneau cover.

So, it really is the best of both worlds. It also sits very low profile on the rails, so it looks nice on your Gladiator as well. I really like how easy it is to use, so we can just pop the tailgate here. (tailgate unlatches) You just pull on either one of these pull cords, it'll be on either side, and still pop it up (cover unlatches) and it just comes unlatched like that. I like that it doesn't spring up and get out of the way so you can just roll it up.

This is gonna be the aluminum I was talking about underneath. So, instead of just a few bars that go across, like on a soft tonneau cover, it's fully reinforced all around the cover. So you can roll it up to the front, now, you don't have any space loss from a canister, so if you had a tonneau cover just slid in like this, it would go in a canister, but it would already take up your bed space, which you don't have a whole lot anyway, so I want to make sure I use all of it that I can hand. When it's rolled all the way up, I can put this into place here. That's gonna keep the strap, it's gonna keep it in place, so you can drive with it like this and know that it's not gonna unroll on you.

Something else I want to point out- with it rolled up, it comes up to about here in the back window of your Gladiator, which is right underneath the headrest of the back seat, so it's not gonna take up your full view like a hard, three panel tonneau cover. If you fold it up, you would lose all that visibility out of the back window. This is gonna be out of the way. Looking at the rail set up, you have a T track here, so you can slide accessories in there, maybe some rooftop bars. Instead of putting 'em up on the roof of your Gladiator, you can put 'em right here above the tonneau cover.

Looking at the inside of the bed, you won't see any clamps here holding on. Other tonneau covers usually have a clamp system. They have three of 'em. You see 'em, they stick out when you look in the bed. These mount to existing mounting points in the bed of your Gladiator. So, I think that looks nice. I think it looks more factory that way. You don't see the clamps in the way and I feel like it's gonna be a little sturdier. As far as the install goes, it's not so bad. The instructions aren't the best, but you might have to do some slight modifications. If you have a drop-in bed liner, we'd have to cut to expose the mounting holes on the Gladiator, but just follow along with me and we'll get it installed. First thing we want to do is figure out where we need to cut into the bedliner to find the holes to actually attach the rail. So, I'm gonna set the rail up into place to get an idea. This portion here is what I'm gonna outline with a black paint marker because this is what we're gonna have to cut out to get access to the holes back here to attach our rails to the truck bed. So, you can just pick up each rail. There's gonna be a sticker on there. This one's got an "L", so that's for the left side. It's gonna be the driver's side. So, we got this one set in place, so we know we got the right one. Make sure you have it up here and push against the bedliner to properly outline it. With the outline made, I can remove the side rail. You can see this is where I'm gonna cut. Now with the multi-tool, I'm gonna start cutting the bedliner on the edges that I've already drawn on. (multi-tool whirs) (tool cutting) And then, I'll come back and pry out the section I cut out. And then you can come back with a knife (knife scraping) and clean it up a little bit to get rid of some of the parts that are sticking out. The next portion we gotta cut out is right here and luckily, it's already outlined for us. There's gonna be two mounting holes underneath that. So what I'm gonna do is pry up on that, use the same cutting tool, but use that to pop this out just a little bit. So, it makes separation between the rail and the metal and then, be very careful and cut this out. (multi-tool whirs) (tool cutting) Now, we're gonna move the pads at the end 'cause if you have the drop-in bed that's gonna get in the way, that's gonna help everything line up better. With that pad removed, I can set the rail in place and make sure everything lines up. So, I push it as far to the front as I can. If you get the rail set into place and things aren't lining up, you might have to cut out a little bit more of the liner. So, we're gonna come across here to even this out, to give the plate more space. First thing we're gonna do is come to the bulkhead, insert this in the top hole. So, just push down on it. You'll push it in into place like that and now you have something to thread into to attach the rail. The bottom portion, we're gonna have to go behind and do that, so you're gonna need a second set of hands to reach up there and hold that in place. Something that was helpful for us was to use a piece of tape to hold the washer and the rubber piece you thread into together, just so whoever's holding it back here doesn't have to hold them both in place. You can tape 'em together and that's less to manage when you're trying to hold it down here. Now we're gonna set our rail back into place, line it up, and then we'll need that second set of hands. On the bottom, we're gonna use the washer and the button head screw and thread it into place. So, get some turns on it. It'll take a little bit to tie it down 'cause it's gonna pull on that section that's behind the bulkhead, but it'll eventually tighten down and hold this in place. After that's tightened up, we're gonna add our other bolt up top with a washer. Just run that in to the insert we put in there earlier. Just gonna hand tighten it for now. We're gonna still have more bolts put in. So, this is where we're gonna go next. We want to line up these holes with the threaded ones behind there, so we have to push up on it a little bit to get it started. What I want to do is put these through first (bolts clanking) and then we'll go to the other side. We're gonna put a bushing, a plastic lock washer, push it in place on both of these and thread 'em in. Once we have this rail installed on this side, we're gonna repeat the same process on the opposite side. Now we're gonna set the cover down on our rails. We're gonna start to unwrap it and then we're gonna set it in the track. (plastic unwrapping) We're gonna set it in the place here at the back, push the tonneau cover down so it actually catches in place. Once you got it latched in the back, you just go ahead and roll it out towards the front, make sure it's fitting right, and make sure it sits down in the grooves. You got these little plastic pieces here that are gonna grab on. You want it to be nice and even, you see our rubber seals on the side are even if I know it's now down into place. With it rolled up to the front, we can slide our hardware here in these channels. So there our bolts will slide into place. When we roll this out, it'll go into this channel here and that's what we'll use to attach the cover to the rails. Something I noticed here at the bulkhead in the instructions that says that if you have a drop-in bedliner, you don't need to use the bulkhead seal, but it does leave some exposed parts here at the front. I'm gonna go ahead and put that on now just to go ahead and protect from any water getting into the bed. We're gonna start with putting some alcohol on a towel and clean up the spot to make sure it's sticks. We're gonna run our bulkhead seal right here next to the cover. Peel back to the adhesive, or the cover on adhesive, sorry, and then set it into place. Now, we're gonna roll this up, make sure those bolts go in the slot underneath, and we can go in underneath the cover and tighten them down. Underneath here, we're gonna take our rubber washer and steel washer, put that on the most forward bolt, and then come back with our lock nut and thread that on. Get my hand outta the way here in a second. There we go. (nut threading) Now loosely install this and then on the back one, we're gonna add our strap. So, what we're gonna use is two washers and a rubber washer. So, you want the rubber washer to go up top. So, you don't want the steel and steel contact. We're gonna put the strap in between and then one more washer on the bottom. So, we'll thread that through on that bolt, tape it all together, then thread on the nylon nut. We'll come back by wrench and tighten it down. Now, with this set in place, not tightened down all the way just yet, you want to roll out the cover to make sure everything aligns like it's supposed to. You want to make sure it goes down the track. You want to make sure it latches on both sides so that we look good. Might have to push down a little bit on this side to get it to the latch. You might have to make adjustments if it doesn't latch like it's supposed to. (cover latching) And go ahead and close the tailgate. Make sure everything shuts properly. It looks like it's sealed. So, we're ready for the last step, which is gonna be unroll it one more time. Bring it to the front. We're gonna add some pads, so if you want to lean it up against the window, it won't damage the window. After I rub some alcohol here along the underside, just like we did the bulkhead, we're gonna come back here and add these bumpers. So, you peel back what's covering up the adhesive here and you'll stick it to the underside of the aluminum. So, we're gonna look at what would maybe make contact with the glass. Looks like we're gonna go right here. You're gonna get four of these, so you just put them where you think there would be, it would be dangerous. You can see it doesn't come anywhere close, but just in case. So, we'll put one here, put another one down here, and repeat that for the other side. With that done, now you can unroll it the last time, making sure everything works, (cover unrolling) latch into place evenly. (cover latches) Looks good there. And you're done. Overall, I think the tonneau cover looks really good on the Gladiator. I like how it's a good combination of the vinyl top and aluminum underneath, so I know it's gonna be sturdy and last, and how easy it is to roll up and attach when I want it out of the way. And it doesn't take up any more bed space than it needs to. Well I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. I hope this helped.

BAK Revolver X2 Hard Tonneau Cover - Roll Up - Aluminum and Vinyl - BAK97FR

Average Customer Rating:  4.5 out of 5 stars   (44 Customer Reviews)

The Revolver X2 tonneau combines hard cover strength and security with soft cover convenience. The heavy-duty aluminum and vinyl cover sits flush on your vehicle and rolls up for full truck bed access. Easy, no-drill installation.

I have had this cover for one year and I would not buy it again. I read the reviews about how terrible this design is in climates that has freezing temps, but I live in New Orleans so freezing rain and snow was not a concern.

Turns out it’s not just cold weather and ice that ruins this, so doesn’t the sun and heat. The vinyl cover that you see when the cover is down is glued to a bunch of aluminum pieces and this design allows it to roll up and down. When the sun heats up the vinyl the glue separates from the aluminum sections and the cover will not roll up or down.

Don’t get me wrong, the concept is great, but the companies execution is off. I think I bought the second iteration and if I were you I would wait until the 6th or 7th version. They are far from getting this design right.

by:

This is the best tonneau cover I have ever owned .And I have had several different type .It has some small leaks but the only one that I had that didn’t covered the bed rails.

by:

The rollback cover is excellent. It is designed well, and went on my 2003 Silverado easily and it fits well. The only negative I have with my new cover is when it arrived from the manufacturer (BAK), it was full of aluminum chips. As I unrolled it to install it they were wrapped into the cover. I was getting aluminum chips everywhere. The cover had them rolled in the fabric cover, I got them on/in my hands, and on the painted surface of my truck. That was my only concern. eTrailer.com is to be commented on their commitment to customer service. They kept me informed on the progress of the tonneau build continually. Thanks to all at eTrailer.

by:

I like the idea of this cover rolling open or closed and the fact it locks when closed. Problem is the plastic guides that push into the aluminum rails do not stay in place. When rolled open and strapped down bouncing down highway the weight of the cover pushes these plastic guides out and allows seal to be damaged and to come out of its grove. I had to insert pieces of wood into the track to hold guides in place at front of track. I pull a 44 ft toy hauler around USA so cover stays rolled open for weeks at a time. The weight of rolled up cover smashes the guide pieces out of place. In the picture that’s paint stir sticks with foil tape on them so they stay dry.

by:

Overall I'm satisfied with the product, but for the price I expected a little better attention to detail. The fit and finish leaves something to be desired. All the parts are just cut and are not finished or cut evenly for that matter (see pics). It gives the overall feeling of a hastily finished product. Plus I've already to replaced some parts due to breakage. Fortunately they were rreplaced free of charge. But it does the job and fits my needs, so I'm giving it 3 stars.

by:

Installed well. Would help if one had a second person. I am 65 and still installed on my own. Excellent fit. Very happy with unit.
Will be traveling country and needed to have some security and yet need to be able to have large items in bed of truck at times. No need to take a cap off and all the hassles that go with that.

by:

Love how its flush with the bed and ease to roll in and out on one side. Does not derail or misalign through bumps or long distance drive. does not obstruct heavy loads and adds a protectant to the back glass. Have not test the effect on MPG as MPG is not a factor in trucks. Heck I even put holes in my gas tank [roll eyes]

by:

We bought (2) of these covers a year ago and would definitely highly recommend them. This is a well thought-out, nicely featured and well designed product of excellent quality. In the past we used Velcro strip hold-down "tarp-type" Tonneau covers in the past and will never go back. These covers roll up effortlessly and very quickly compared to the Velcro type. And, (as long as you keep the lock-down bar & track clean) they just as effortlessly roll out, lay down, lock down, and stay down - no stretching and having to take time working to get the tarp tight so that it doesn't "flap" in the wind. Wonderful product.

by:

I am really glad I bought this cover. I looked and looked and ended up with this hardtop aluminum roll-up cover. It was easy to install, fits well and is secure. I am able to roll it up and snap it down and still pull a fifth wheel without having to remove the cover, a big plus.

My only issue is the tie down buckle and straps are poorly conceived. The snaps should be redesigned for easier access and use. One of the snaps broke early on and I had to find a replacement.

by:

This BAK RevolverX2 tonneau cover is a high quality product that has performed well on my GMC Sierra 2500HD, it keeps my cargo safe, relatively dry and I save fuel. what more could ask for in a product.

by:

Secure straps for when the tonneau cover is rolled up ripped out of the washers holding to the frame. Tarp pulled away from rubber seal causing water leak. Latches on the side of the cover dont always latch into the track.

by:

I ordered a BAK Revolver X2 Hard Tonneau cover for my 2013 Nissan Frontier pickup truck. Navigating the website was easy, I liked the price and the free shipping that were offered. I immediately received tracking information for my item so I knew what to expect. The item arrived on time and was professionally packaged and undamaged during shipment. The installation instructions were easy to follow and the kit included everything necessary to complete the installation, which took approximately 30 minutes. The cover looks great and works great. I am a very satisfied customer.

by:

Great product! The only issue I have is the straps that secure the cover when rolled up. If they were a couple of inches longer, it would be easier to get my fat little fingers in there.

by:

Great tonneau cover! It's amazing how easily a well made product installs. I replaced my soft folding IMPORTED tonneau cover with this sweet piece and I can honestly say I now understand the difference in price. The Revolver X2 fits flush, looks great, closes securely, and just makes me feel a little cooler knowing it's back there ( I need all the help I can get). Bottom line, I was apprehensive spending so much for a tonneau cover but now that I did I will shout from the rooftops "YOU GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE REVOLVER X2s!" etrailer is a no-brainer as well, you can buy BAK tonneau covers from dozens of other retailers but I know etrailer, I trust etrailer, and I know if there's ever a problem (which I doubt there will be) etrailer will be there to fix it.

by:

I couldn't be more pleased by this tonneau cover except if they found a way to make it magically disappear into the cab when I want to use the whole bed. It did its job throughout both summer and winter, keeping snow and rain out of the bed of my Tundra. By virtue of its unique rolling design, it's also one of the few options compatible with my TracRac: I can fully roll and unroll it no matter where the racks are placed.

by:

I have found the cover easy to install. It still works fine 1 year later. It is easy to roll up using one hand. The only problem I experienced so far is occasinal failure of the wire to release the cover on the driver side of the cover when operatred from the tailgate on the passenger side. Its otherwise been a perfect product keeping even the worst rain and snow out of the back of my pickup.

by:

As always, outstanding customer service. Had to call before buying with weird question about compatibility with equipment management systems. They took time to find an obscure reference confirming it would fit.

Pretty straightforward to install, looks great. Anticipating it to function as designed. Super good video preview to know what you have picked and how it compares to other styles

by:

Clean look and easy to use. Still very satisfied with my purchase after 1 year. I installed it on a 2018 Honda ridgeline. My only complaint is when I purchased the product, it took them 3 delivery to provide the right attachment parts for my vehicle. Poor workmanship from the manufacturer. This problem as nothing to do with etrailer, which I'm happy with.

by:

Well,I do like the tonneau cover ,but, when rolled up to to tow a 5th wheel where the rolled cover sits stowed it has damaged the cover by punching thru the material. I suppose you don’t have a fix for this , like a wear strip that can be put over this for some protection .? With the weight of the rolled up cover in the stowed position for towing and the air and road vibration the cover moves just enough to wear thru the material , it would be good if you have a fix.

by:

I love this roll up cover. Only takes up an extra inch of space.

by:

I purchased this cover about a year ago for my 2019 Nissan Titan. I was happy with the appearance, it makes the truck stand out like no other. I can store things in the back, like luggage when traveling and it is secured and it will not leak. The cover itself is pretty sturdy, I have sit about 100 Lbs. on it and it doesn't bow in. I have the leather edition and it is easy to clean. It looks new even after a year, But maintenance is required to keep it looking good. Just keeping it clean and leather conditioner keeps it looking spectacular.

by:

Perfect for the hard working truck fans! Great quality for the money! I love the fact that I can completely conceal my tools and gear without sacrificing the full use of the truck bed! Highly recommend!

by:

The roll up cover has performed very well in cold temperatures and warm. The top is water proof even when sprayed at the car wash. I like the security provided when the tailgate is locked. Overall very happy and would purchase this again.

by:

I purchased both the Bak Revolver 2 Tonneau and the B & W adapter for my companion 5th wheel hitch from trailer.

Both the product and service was great

by:

The only issue I've experienced with this cover that I was not pleased with was it blew up from one corner during a very strong crosswind and several of the plastic rail clips broke. I consider it an anomaly since its never happened again. BAK sent me replacement parts at no cost. The repair was simple.
On the positive side the cover gives you additional security from theft due to its construction. It's expensive but I feel worth the money, especially when protection of valuable cargo is needed.
