Hey everyone, Charles here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars with the 2500 Series Towers and a Custom Fit Kit on our 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. This roof rack is a great solution since we don't have a hitch or any raised rails to transport our extra gear, freeing up space in our vehicle. Rhino-Rack designed these bars to be aerodynamic, and that is partially due to its shape as well as the vortex strips here. They have the rubberized grooves here that allow for reduced wind drag and wind noise as well. They can carry up to 165 pounds, so just check with your vehicle's specification to make sure you can carry the extra weight. The 2500 Series Towers all come with a lock and core that are all gonna be keyed alike as well as a separate key for your endcaps as well.
The bars are made out of an aluminum, so it's gonna keep it very durable as well as weather resistant, so you can keep it on all year round. So we already installed the front rack, we're gonna do the rear together. So the first thing we wanna do is lay out everything, making sure we have all the parts, and most important thing is the fit kit, they are numbered, so they will depend on whether it goes on the front, the rear, passenger, or the driver's side, but they have arrows on both sides, so we wanna make sure that they are both facing the right direction when we snap these together. And then from there, we're just gonna clamp on the tower here, and we want the arrow facing out, so we're gonna loosen this part if it's too tight on here just so that we can slide it into the T-track system, and just make sure that you're referring to the instructions on how far you need to measure, for us, it's about 15.7 centimeters. And when we set these down, we're just gonna get our measurement from the front rack, measuring center to center, for our Equinox here, it's about 27 1/2 inches.
So after we got the A and B measurements, we just went on both sides making sure that the overhang is equal on both sides. Once that's done, we are good to install the clamps just by fitting that in there like so, and then threading the bolt into the nut here in the back, then I'm just gonna hand tighten it on both sides and then go back and forth just to tighten them equally. So using the included tool, I know that I am completely torqued down when this part of the handle becomes flat just like that. Once everything is tightened down, we are okay to place our endcaps on. And they are all keyed alike, tower to tower and endcap to endcap.
You can always purchase metal locking cores for both the endcap and the towers if you just want that extra piece of mind of having that added security, but that does it for the installation. And that does it for our look on the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars with the 2500 Series Towers and the Custom Fit Kit on our 2020 Chevrolet Equinox..

2020 Chevrolet Equinox
This was the kit for my 2020 equinox. The spacing of the feet on the vortex aero bars was incorrect I had to use the Euro sizes. Went back and forth with customer service trying to get confirmation that was the right size but it never was confirmed. Everything is installed now and sturdy.

Perfect fit for the 2020 Equinox. Thick, heavy feet prevents paint damage. A tip - wax the roof and contact areas with a good quality wax before installation.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox
The hardware itself is nice, the dimensions in the instructions for my car were WAY off... Like 4 to 5 inches too wide. I was able to make it work by taking my own measurements and adjusting with trial and error... But then what's the point of vehicle specific kits?

Yes, thats where I placed them... That was not the problem. The problem is the left-right dimensions for locating the legs on the crossbars. If I go by the printed instructions, my legs are 4 to 5 inches too wide to fit on the roof, that is to say if the right leg is in location on the roof, the left leg will not touch the roof. I had to re-cut the measurement strips and move the legs closer to each other while keeping the crossbar centered... Not easy without the proper measurements. My recommendation is to review the printed specs for 2018 Chevy Equinox and correct them.

2019 Chevrolet Equinox
Very happy with the results. Rhino Rack would not confirm a fit for my 2019 Chevy Equinox LT. The installation instructions listed cutting the front measuring strips at 120 mm for the front crossbar for the Euro bar. This left my legs a good six inches too narrow to span my roof. After some tweaking I achieved a good sold fit. None of your competitors would claim they had a fit kit for the 2019 Equinox. Thanks to etrailer.com for recommending this product.

After a year the entire rack system and kayak carriers are working great. In all fairness i did remove them for the cold winter months, no reason to beat them up when the water is too coldfrozen to be on.

For the 2018 Chevy Equinox with a naked roof the front clamp is placed 7.87 inches forward from the where the front door shuts while the rear clamp would be 27.56 inches from the center of the front clamp back. Can you tell me where you placed yours? Would you be able to send a picture?
