How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com, and we're taking a look at the Yakima Roof Rack System on our 2022 Chevrolet Colorado. Having a roof rack to your vehicle helps solve the issue of not having enough cargo space, especially when you have a smaller pickup like the Colorado. It allows you to make use of the negative space on top of your truck to get those bigger, bulkier items on the road with you for your journey. So for example, if you want to get a rooftop carrier, rooftop basket, or even a bike carrier, you'd be able to take advantage of that space without taking away from your bed or your passenger area. The JetStream bars are a arrow-type bar, so it's shaped like a airplane wing to help cut through the wind resistance. On the Colorado, you have a great amount of space between the top of the bar and the roof, so that's gonna work for most rooftop accessories that clamp around bars.
As far as your towers, they actually make a contact with the gutter right in here, and it contours to the ridge of the vehicle. So that's gonna allow you to get a nice secure fit on top of your truck. While fitting the Yakima system to the Colorado, I noticed that the crossbar for it is very limited as far as how much space you have, considering it is a smaller vehicle with only. Well, it has two doors, but not a lot of space. So you're gonna be limited as far as how far you can spread, as well as what you put up due to your antenna.
So those are a couple things to consider with all crossbar on the Colorado. Overall, the Yakima crossbars are really good addition to the top of your Colorado. Installation is a little bit tricky, but I'll get you through it. So let's take a look, and I'll show you how to get it installed. We're gonna start our installation by removing the end cap from our JetStream bar.
Kind of pull the tab up and just pull it forward. There we are. And now we're gonna slide our tower using this track here along the T-track. We want the inside of it pointing towards the metal, and we're just gonna get it lined up. And it's a little tight, so I'm gonna use my Yakima tool to loosen the inside bolt in here to allow it to go down our track a little easier.
So now, I'm gonna use the included tape measure ruler that's on the bottom of our bar to set our spread on both sides, and then I'll fasten down our towers until I hear the click right here. (bar clicking) From here, we're gonna take our Fit Kit and we're gonna make sure our arrow is pointing out, and clamp it down on the bottom of our towers right here at these points and just make sure it clicks on. And I've already done that on the other end. So now, we're gonna take our bottom part of our Fit Kit and install it on the roof of the vehicle. With our towers and bar assembled, we're gonna just test fit our initial measurement, so we're gonna make sure everything is good to go. And once we confirm that we have everything in the correct positioning with the JetStream tower, then we're gonna use that same nut to fasten it down until we click using the Yakima Torque Wrench. So from here, we're gonna go to the next step of the install by adding the clip underneath the door jam. We're just gonna fasten down our bolt. (bolt clicking) We're gonna drop it back into our position where we've measured. We're gonna open this front gate here and use the clip for our Fit Kit. There's a small channel under here where it's gonna slide in, and there's a hook on this metal screw that grabs the top of that bracket. And then when you fasten it down, it'll secure your tower to the roof of your vehicle, and you'll know that you've gotten to the required torque requirement once your wrench clicks. (wrench clicking) Put down the gray cover, and now put the cover over our tower. (cover clattering) This has been a look at the installation and some of the features of the Yakima Roof Rack on our 2022 Chevy Colorado. Have a great day.

Works perfectly on my 2023 Chevy Silverado. The rubber pads are soft enough to prevent scratches, yet firm enough to support the force of being cranked down on the roof. They fit perfectly in the ridge near the edges of the rough.
I ordered the Yakima roof rack for a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq. I went with the heavy duty one for extra strength but it is quite a bit thicker, likely increasing wind noise. So I might have chosen the aerodynamic lighter weight one if I was to do it again. Also, I needed to get larger bolts for my kayak holder to get around the crossbar. The instructions and video on website were very helpful but they did not explain well how to adjust the toe and pitch. For the toe adjustment, you have to push the metal post with the tool before tightening. That was not obvious. For the pitch, it helped to do that once the towers are attached to crossbar. Then you can tilt tower while cross bar is laying flat (upside down). I ended up having to add tilt on both front and back crossbars for them to be flat when installed. Website said only front one would need to be pitched. I am very pleased with the look and sturdiness of the product. My Hyundai Dealer had zero options for this car.
etrailer was a great place to order, quick and easy. Yakima products however are over priced and overly complicated.

Works just like the old towers except they pivot to give a snugger fit on the truck, which makes this tower fit easier and less likely to come loose or break like the other towers. Also it is nice to have a rack on the front of the cab for long items, like full size canoe, that would be too long and need the extra length to fit. Without the extra tower the canoe has to shift back and hang off the back too much and securing the front of the canoe is more challanging.
The customer service in ordering theses par tea was amazing!! I spoke with a wonderful specialist named Kate F, and she was super helpful and patient answering all my questions and helping me make sure I had the correct parts I needed for my type of car. The bars are very sturdy and have proven very worth the money!!
Ackage came 2 days early the install was somewhat easy (did it by myself)
Did not get to mount anything to it but seems really sturdy. One thing I can say is mark out your mounting points with provided stickers then put up and make adjustments to the roof rack.
I had a difficult time identifying whether these were the correct adapters for the rack towers that I was purchasing to fit my tracks but that has more to do with yakima doing everything a-la-cart instead of having kits that include everything you need if I hadn't already had the HD bars on my other rack and wanted to be able to transfer them to this rack I probably wouldn't have went to this expense because I think they are overpriced.AS far as etrailer is concerned I always receive great service and products and they are always well packaged and never damaged by poor delivery care and always fast delivery speed.
