Correct Roof Rack Crossbar Size for 2015 Ford Fusion
Question:
Im looking to put a rack on a 2015 Ford Fusion. There is a kit that includes the Yakima Corebar Y00422. They are 60inch long. I see others recommended for my car are lots shorter. How do you all determine what length to recommend??

We determine the cross bar length to recommend based on the manufacturer's research and testing.
Yakima produces a lot of watersport and snow sport accessories, and their load assist models require that the ends of the crossbars overhang the rack feet. So, a lot of their roof crossbars are naturally longer to provide for this length as an added feature so the user doesn't have to think about how to mount the crossbars to clear the side of their vehicle.
Additionally, this increases the useable space of your crossbars, letting you have access to more cargo configurations. You can purchase different lengths of bar as well, letting you customize your rack. I've included a link to all of the JetStream and CoreBar lengths we have available below.
So a long 60-inch bar like the CoreBar, part # Y00422 , is designed in this way to provide quite a bit of overhang.
I recommend going for the JetStream kit over the CoreBar kit. This kit consists of:
- Yakima JetStream Crossbars, 60-inch part # Y00426
- Yakima BaseLine Towers, part # Y28TR
- Yakima BaseClip, part # Y06110
- Yakima BaseClip, part # Y06102
Note that you'll need to pick up one of both base clip backs as one is intended for the front and one for the back of the vehicle.
I recommend the JetStream kit over others as the integrated t-channel allows for use of a wider variety of accessories that you wouldn't have access to with the CoreBar kit. Additionally, they are slightly lighter, lowering the overall weight of your roof rack system and allowing for more cargo capacity.
I've included video reviews of both bars systems so you can compare them for yourself.
