Video Transcript for LaSalle Bristol XTRM Roof Installation Kit Review

Shane: Hello, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna be going over the LaSalle Bristol Extreme RV Roof Insulation Kit, part number 3442703414KIT. In this kit, you're going to get your inch wide butyl tape, your inch and a half butyl tape, six tubes of self-leveling sealant, and a two gallon jug of your roof adhesive. This kit's going to be designed specifically for the insulation on a PVC roof membrane. Now let's talk about what each component does. Butyl tape. What this is going to be used for is any of your roof-mounted components that you have to remove when you put on your new membrane.

When you put those piece back on, this is going to go on that bottom edge to help seal that component to the top of your roof. It's going to help keep any water from getting in underneath that edge. For instance, this is one that I had removed and I replaced with a different style that a customer wanted, but where your butyl tape is going to go, if you look, this is an actual bathroom vent, and it's going to have screw holes where you screw this thing down to your roof. Your butyl tape is going to go right along this underside edge over your screw holes to help seal that. So when you run your screw through it, it's going to catch on that butyl tape and that butyl tape is also going to fill that hole. Now our self-leveling sealant.

This is going to be used for after you get all those components installed, and I'll show you here again on this vent. On the top here, once this sits down on the roof, you have all of your screws installed holding it down, you can see that stuff here, this is actually the self-leveler. What you want is not only butyl tape on the bottom, but once you get it screwed down, you want something to seal the top of it along the edge and all of your screw holes. So that's where your self-leveler comes in. You're going to put, you know, a couple beads, a bead here, and a couple of beads so it will level and it will actually flatten out over top of the whole thing. And here we have our adhesive.

This is going to be used to adhere your PVC roof membrane to your decking. You just want to make sure you follow the instructions when applying it. One thing that does not come in this kit that you're probably going to need is non-sag sealant. What this is for is for any of your campers or RVs where your roof membrane comes over the sides and attaches with the rail, this is going to be to seal the top edge of that rail. The reason you want to use non-sag on the sides, is that if you try to use a self-leveling sealer, what it's going to eventually do, it's going to run over top of that rail, and possible down the side of your camper or RV, causing a mess. The non-sag along with each one of these components that come in the kit can be purchased separately here at etrailer.com.

That being said, this kit is going to be the most cost-effective way of getting your new roof installed. Through personal experience, I do want to mention one thing, the self-leveling sealant that comes in it doesn't quite sag as well as I would like, however it will get the job done. It'll work great. It's going to seal what it needs to seal. Keep in mind, it's going to be on your roof. You're not going to see it much so it's going to be a matter of personal preference. That'll do it for a look at the LaSalle Bristol Extreme RV Roof Insulation Kit, part number 3442703414KIT.

So far it's been great! Don't kid yourself, it's a lot of work to do it yourself but I love the smooth PVC and I believe it has made my rig a lot cooler! So easy to clean, just spray it off!

by:

Liked that you had this kit with what is need to install Xtrm PVC roof. Did not care for the self leveling sealant it worked just did not level out as well as dicore. The 1-1/2 butal was a great size. Had to buy extra because we liked the size to use on other items.

by:

So far so good after 1 year. Not super hard to install. Took about 35-40 hrs solo on a 36 ft fifth wheel. This is the roof material I will use from here on.

  • Will The LaSalle Bristol XTRM PVC RV Roof Membrane Come On A Tube Or Folded Up
The LaSalle Bristol XTRM PVC RV Roof Membrane # 3441700534142711421 is going to ship rolled up tube as seen in the pictures. There will be a protective wrapping around and it and should also be placed into another box to protect the membrane. I recommend picking up LaSalle Bristol's installation kit # 3442703414KIT so that you have the correct sealants and adhesives to replace the membrane on your RV. I recommend checking out Shane's installation video that I've attached below to help walk...

  • How Many Tubes of Sealant Are Needed to Complete Installation of LaSalle Bristol XTRM Roof Membrane
A typical 10 oz tube of sealant will cover approximately 50 linear feet but this can vary depending on the bead size. I recommend measuring all the areas of your trailer that will require sealing so you can determine how many tubes your project will require. A convenient option to consider is the LaSalle Bristol XTRM RV Roof Installation Kit # 3442703414KIT. Not only is this a more economical option than buying everything separately, this kit will take most of the measuring and guessing...

  • Best Way to Protect Fiberglass Roof on Pop Up Camper with Fine Hairline Cracks
When it comes to applying solutions we have the RoadMaster Voom Gold Auto and Marine Polish # RM-9940 but this is more for making your roof shine, not necessarily fixing damage. I took a look at the Dicor coating you mentioned and it looked like some of the reviews said that it didn't work well for the hairline cracks that you mentioned. Your best option would be to add a LaSalle Bristol XTRM Roof Membrane. This basically sits on top of your roof and becomes your new "roof". The material...

  • Solution for Leaking Roof on 2005 Pop-Up Camper
That is not a fun thing to walk into when opening up your camper for the season! Based on the damage shown in the picture you attached I recommend simply replacing the affected ceiling inside the camper with a whole new section of material. Then to repair the roof and prevent this type of leakage from happening again I recommend installing new roof membrane with the LaSalle Bristol # 3441700534142711430. You can then add the LaSalle Bristol Roof Installation Kit # 3442703414KIT that includes...
