The curved ends on these black powder coated step bars give your Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a streamlined look. Footpad areas are recessed, rather than cut out, preserving the strength of the steel and providing a solid, rust-resistant step into your truck.

Features:

  • Cab-length, oval nerf bars make it easy to get into and out of your vehicle
    • Greater stability than narrower round bars
  • Curved ends of step bars give a finished, street-style look
  • Non-slip step pads sit in recessed tube areas instead of cutouts
    • No holes in tubing means maximum strength and durability with no internal corrosion
    • Sturdy polymer plastic construction resists UV rays, fading, and cracking
  • Mild steel with black powder coat finish resists rust
  • Mandrel bending at corners eliminates creases in tubing
  • Custom fit for your vehicle
  • Quick and easy bolt-on installation with included hardware
    • No drilling required

Specs:

  • Tubing width: 4"
  • Step pad width: 4"
  • Step pad quantity: 2 per bar
  • Quantity: 2 nerf bars
  • 3-Year warranty

The step pad areas in Westin's Platinum Series oval nerf bars are indented instead of cut out, maintaining the structural integrity of the steel tubing and preventing internal corrosion. 90-Degree mandrel bending at the corners means that there are no creases in the bars. This minimizes the chances of chips and rust at the bends and makes for sleeker, better-looking step bars.

U-Style Tube Steps

As shown in the image above, these step bars have a U-style tubing, which ensures that each bar conforms perfectly to your vehicle. Installation is quick and simple - just bolt the mounting brackets to existing holes in your truck's frame. No drilling is required.

Video Transcript for Westin Platinum Series Oval Nerf Bars Installation - 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Hey guys, it's Jake here with Etrailer. Today we have a 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 and we're gonna be taking a look at, and I'm gonna show you how to install, the Westin Platinum Oval Running Boards. This is what our running boards are gonna look like when they're installed. You can see we have a nice large plate here. The distance between the top of our running board in the bottom of our kick panel here is gonna be a little bit different. Typically, these are pretty close, but our vehicle has a four inch body lift because it is equipped with the handicapped wing on the other side, where both passenger doors open at the same time in order for a wheelchair to get in.

But that's a, this is just to show you why this is a great option for any type of vehicle. We only installed the driver's side on this side because the driver of the vehicle still needs help getting in and out of the vehicle as well as the passengers that they have in the back. This particular couple has a couple of grandkids that they like to haul in the back seat so they can get in and out of the truck a little bit easier by stepping up on these running boards and so can the driver. Now, these are gonna have a steel construction, with very, very heavy steel brackets. I will say, with a lot of running boards, I'm a little bit heavier guy and I step on some running boards and they feel kind of soft, like the bracket tree is not strong enough to be able to support my weight, but these, the bracket tree is very, very thick and they mount to the bottom side of the body mounts themselves.

So, you don't have to, you're not tapping into the backside of this rocker panel. That's typically where they're bolted in at is in that sheet metal that the rocker panel is made of. They have weld nuts in there that you tie 'em into. These are actually gonna use the bottom side of the body mount so you know it's gonna be a rigid mount. And when you step on these, there is no flex to them at all.

You can see, I'm moving the whole vehicle, but these are bolted up nice and tight. The finish on the steel parts is not necessarily going to be a gloss finish. I'd say, if I had to identify, it's more like a satin finish. It's got, it looks like it has like a matte finish underneath, but with like a semi-gloss on top. I think it looks really good.

It helps to kind of blend in with all the plastics on the vehicle 'cause all the plastics are black on it. It's gonna be a lot easier to clean than a true matte finish would be but not nearly as hard to fix scratches on as a gloss finish would. You're gonna have a checkered flag looking pattern on the top of the running board itself. What I like about it is it's the size of it more than anything. It's very, very wide. I've got a size 13 boot and you can see here, it fits very, very easily. The width fits just fine. I wouldn't say this is necessarily a tread that's gonna help you scrape anything off, this edge here might help more than anything, but it's definitely gonna give you a place to knock off your boots in the summer if you're getting into muddy areas or in the winter if you need to knock some snow off before you get in your vehicle. Now, as far as the installation goes, it is not a bad installation at all. We did this one from the vehicle sitting on the ground, so it is possible to do. You are gonna need a 22 millimeter socket to be able to loosen up those body bolts. That, I'd say that's probably the only thing that you might not have at home. We use an impact. You can use just a normal ratchet if you want to. Now, with this specific vehicle, we only installed one side, so we're only gonna show you the one side. The passenger side is the exact same way. The only thing you want to watch out for is there is a driver and passenger specific running board and that has to do with where the mount is. The mount for the center mount is a little bit more forward on each of the running boards, so you have to make sure that you put the right one on the right side. With that being said, let's go ahead and pull it into the shop and show you how we got it installed. To begin our installation, we're gonna start over here on the driver's side. You're gonna have three body mount bolts that you're gonna have to remove in order to get the brackets installed. You're gonna have one up here, one right here, and then there's gonna be one a little bit further back and then further up. And we're gonna take the smallest bracket that comes in our kit, which will look like this, that's gonna go in the front, and we'll have one that's gonna be a little bit longer, that's gonna go in the back. It also looks like this. And then you're just gonna have a support bracket that goes in the middle. Let's go ahead and get 'em installed. Now, we'll be using a 22 millimeter socket in order to take these body mount bolts out. (tool ratcheting) (tool whirs) Now, we're gonna take our bracket. (parts clanking) You want to hold it up, set the washer back on top of it, slide our bolts up through the slot in it. (tool clanks) We'll set our washer back on there and then slide the bolt back up and thread it back into place. (tool ratcheting) (tools clanking) For the center one, we're gonna take the bolt out again, take the washer off, take our bracket that looks like this, (tools clanking) slide it up through, put our washer back on, and then lift it up into place. (tool ratchets) We're gonna leave everything loosely installed until we get our running board on and then we can come back and tighten everything up. For our rear bracket, we're gonna be using this mount. You can tell the difference 'cause it's a little bit higher up inside the cavity of the truck. Pop that bolt out. (tool ratcheting) Lift our bracket up. (tool clanking) Now, with all three of our brackets on, on the one side, we're going to grab our running board and the hardware necessary to get it attached. Now, the hardware you're gonna need to assemble, to get our running boards on our brackets, is you're gonna need two hex head bolts with a split lock washer and a regular fender washer on there. That's for both of those. And then the center bolt is going to be an Allen head bolt. You do get an Allen key in your kit, which is really nice if you don't have one that size at home, with a star washer and a flat washer. I am going to start with getting the center bolt mounted up in place 'cause I'm hoping that'll hold up the rest of the running board for me while I'm getting everything else installed. Now, we're gonna take that hex bolt and put it on the backside. You'll see that there's a threaded portion in the backside of this tube. (bolt clanking) That's what we're shooting for. Now we're gonna come back with a 19 millimeter socket and tighten these down. (tool ratcheting) Now that we've got our three bolts tightened on our brackets, we'll come back and tighten up those body mount bolts. (tool ratcheting) Now, we're gonna come back underneath here and you want to torque all the hardware to the specifications and the instructions. (torque wrench beeps) Now that we've got everything torqued down, that's gonna do it for installation. Well guys, hopefully this video helped you decide whether or not the Westin Platinum oval running boards are gonna be right for you in your 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500.

Installed on my new 2021 GMC Sierra. Took about an hour, but I'm kinda meticulous. Retorqued after a week and have done nothing since. They are perfect. They compliment the vehicle and make entry and egress much easier. Coating has held up well. Highly recommend them.

Still tight, no disruption of coating…looks like new. Very happy with them.

Installed on 2018 Tacoma sport. Unfortunately, it arrived with a ding in the passenger side bar. It was very disappointing, but by the time I saw it (I should have thoroughly checked both bars before starting install), I had already installed the driver’s side. I said, to heck with it and didn’t bother with a return.

It was an extremely easy install with quick delivery and overall, they look great. Now, I don’t have to haul myself up into my Tacoma. The step inserts are basically a heavy duty plastic. I figure if they are slippery, I can spray them with a propert texturing coating. At some point, I’ll probably also texture/ mat spray the bars themselves since they’re gloss finish.

Fit and fastener alignment was good. Easy installation. Pleased with product quality.

These Nerf Bars are just what my truck needed! They look awesome and were a cinch to install. Customer service is also great and I can’t say enough about the ETRAILER web site. Will definitely use them again!!

Very well built. Replaced a pair of Westin nerf bars that were 20 years old. Very easy to install. Well worth the money. I have always liked Westin products. Etrailers always delivers no matter what you need!

by:

Excellent product. Looks great on my vintage 2004 Silverado. Easy installation once I CAREFULLY removed the body mount bolts. Only suggestion would be to include the torque specs for the body mounting bolts for reinstallation.

by:

The step/bars look good. Install wasn't tough but Westin's instructions are poor- I just figured it out on my own.

While the packaging looked stout, 3 of the 4 open bar ends were bent in, like someone dropped the box on both ends. I did a decent job of banging the dents out and installed them. Those ends aren't seen once installed. Someone needs to look at a better way to protect them during shipping.

Overall I'm just satisfied with the product.

by:

I am very happy with these running boards. They are just the right width for easy use. They are solid, and they installed easily on my Tundra. I would buy these again if I had it to do over.

by:

Product is as described. Installation was not complicated and easily done by one person. Fit perfectly on my 2018 Ram 3500. Install tip: duct tape is your friend when you fumble one of the nut holders into the frame. That will slow you down. :-)

by:

Look nice. Easy installation. The instructions were a little vague.

These Western tube steps fit my 2013 Silverado Reg. cab perfect, even with the DEF tank.
Installed quickly, and look great.
Thanks Chris W. at etrailer.com

Price was good and shipping was very fast.

Excellent product and great value. Installation of the brackets and bars were simple and did everything myself. Bars are lightweight, but very sturdy and robust. The plastic steps are rather heavy duty and not loose. The 4 inch diameter is the perfect size for my needs: doesn't stick out far like most running boards and not too small to where my feet wouldn't get good purchase on a step.
The bars weren't has curved inward under the body as advertised. The pictures show these bar curve in a lot, but the bars I got only had a slight bend at the ends. If you've got front mudguards, the bar will touch the guard; it wont actually put pressure or bend the mudguard, but just touch it. Despite the inaccuracy of the pictures, it turned out well as the mudguard would interfere with a fully curved in bar. It still looks sleek. There really isn't much of a gap between the bars and body, the bar isn't low so my ground clearance isn't compromised.
Overall, great bars that look great and function well.

Installed the Westin 21-3610 4 in oval SS step bars on my 2015 Jeep GC Summit.Hemi California edition - perfect fit. See photos. After 2014 Jeep uses 12 mil plastic stickers instead of the rubber plug caps for the oval cutouts as called out in the Westin install procedure - use a small wood chisel to remove the cover stickers carefully.

by:

High quality, easy installation and good fit.

After 1 year I have nothing bad to say about these bars they do as I wanted getting everyone in and out of my truck with ease. It was more for protecting the seats from sliding in and out not to break down the seat cushion and to protect the cloth seats from tears, but after sitting in the truck at a shopping center it does something I never thought of, other people hit the bars with car doors not my truck, they still look like new

by:

This is my third purchase of this type of nerf bar step system and they have proven to be rugged and very functional in Wyoming’s back country and temperature extremes. I ran into a bit of difficulty with this set as one of the nerf bar center supports was incorrectly located. etrailer’s Ashley helped resolve and shipped a replacements. Fantastic customer service as always.!

by:

just what I ordered!!!

by:

Good product but did not fit my 2019 F150 with 6'7" bed as claimed by Westin. I was able to get them on, but, they did not go over the stake pockets as they are supposed to. I notified etrailer of the issue and they quickly accepted a fully refunded return … even though I had installed them. Hopefully the product listing on the website was corrected so that no one else will get them in error. KUDOs to the etrailer folks for working with me on this!!

by:

As others have noted, the instructions are not terribly robust, but once I got oriented, I was able to move along quite quickly. Either the rear brackets were mis-labeled, or the 2017 frame is slightly different. Swapping the parts side to side made the holes line up the way they should. Install took less than 90 minutes. I'm very pleased with the fit, finish, and the always fast service from e-Trailer.

The package arrived early in the day because the UPS driver didn't want to work around it in his truck all day. That meant I could install them right away. Nice!

by:

Great steps for a great price!

by:

Easy install using the video, had all the parts needed, very solid nerf bars.

by:

Packaged very well! Easy install! Looks great on customer vehicle! The hardest part was getting the factory bolts out!! Install was done in about 20 minutes! Thanks for a great product, would recommend to anyone!!

by:

Looks great and holds up to the weight. Instructions weren't great, took a while to install, but defiantly recommend to anyone
