Video Transcript for Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation - 2022 Ram 2500

What's up, everybody It's A.J. with etrailer.com Today, we're gonna be checking out the Curt Q20 5th wheel hitch assembly. And today we're putting it on the Curt adapter for the above-bed puck system that comes OEM with this 2022 Ram 2500. Right away we wanna point out that we are in a shorter six foot bed on this Ram. So this would really only work with a longer bed and eight for one just because of it's a static hitch, it's not gonna move around. So it would work with a slider.

You can get it in a kit with that if that's something you need but it will not work with the sidewinder style King Pin. So just keep that in mind. I think this will work great for the eight foot bed. Now today the way we have this set up is since our Ram has the factory under bed puck system, as we use the adapter from Curt and that's gonna go into those pucks and allow you to attach the fifth wheel legs to the adapter itself. That way it's above bed and you can still use this if you already had this assembly.

You just need to get the adapter to use it in your new truck with the pucks. Let's look at how it connects. It's got a two jaw system, which is better than just the one jaw system. Which that usually works but this gives you a complete coverage of the kingpin so you know it's secure in there. It's really easy operate.

We've got the handle here. I'll pull the pin. Pull this back. Even has an indicator on this side that lets you know. So it's green, so it means it's good to tow right now because it would be connected if we had something in there.

So come here, pull the side. We are in red, so that means it's uncoupled and then yellow would be it's coupled. It's ready to go. So when it's in yellow now we back up to the King Pin, it would activate these jaws. I'm gonna show you how the jaws work. This is gonna be a King Pin insert. So we're backing up to the trailer on the King Pin. It gets lined up with the two jaws. Once it hits the jaws and pushes back, they go into place. So that brings the handle in. So now the indicator's gonna be green for ready to tow. You wanna make sure you latch it back just for extra security and then you're ready to hit the road. As far as security goes, you don't have to just use this pin. It's nice as this is included, but sold separately, you can get a padlock run through there and lock this up. That way no one can unlatch this and mess with this when you're not around. When you go to set it up or back it up to your trailer, the head does pivot back and forth so that's gonna help you adjust. If it's slightly off and you're coming in and you don't have to worry about it straight on, it will adjust to you backing in. So I'll show you kind of here. I'll pull it an angle. You might not be able to see much but also pull it in to the side. It still adjusted just fine. You can see it pivots back and forth and can go front and back. So it will adjust as you back that King Pin in. You also get this plate that acts as a barrier on your King Pin. So you put it all the way on there on the bottom and that's gonna protect it against metal on metal contact. So instead it'll hit that plate as it comes in here. Which is gonna keep from scraping everything up. There's also gonna be three points to help add grease to it to keep it moving easily. So there's gonna be one up right on front. There's gonna be on the left side and there's gonna be one on the right side. Another nice thing about this is you can detach the head from the base, which is gonna not only make it lighter but easier to install or remove. So I'm gonna pull the clips on the inside and show you the two pin system. There's one on this side. So you have one on the opposite side. Then you're gonna lift and remove the head out. Now it does resist a little bit, so you will have to pull up. And as I shake it back and forth, it slowly starts to come out. And I can remove that, set it aside, and then remove the base separately. The Q20 is gonna have a gross total weight rating of 20,000 pounds. It's gonna have a vertical load limit of 5,000 pounds. And this does weigh 139 pounds. So if you need help with it, get some help loading into the truck and set in the place. Now you can disassemble it, remove the head to make it a little bit lighter and easier for one person. Installing is really easy. We just drop it off the adapter, line up the tabs with the holes, and it goes right in the place. We'll go underneath and add in our pin and clips. Overall, I think this is a good fifth wheel hitch. Now if you have the eight foot bed, it's gonna be better. Don't recommend it for the six foot bed just because of how limited it is. But the jaws going right around the King Pin, really nice. It's all the way around there. It's gonna take up some of that rattling. The way it adjusts when you back up into it is gonna be really easy to do as well. The handle was easy to pull out. It had the color code here on the side so if you did have a backup camera here or you could see it in the mirror, you could see that it was green and good to go and you're good to tow. very nice hitch , shipped relay fast 3 days to east coast, easy to install : had rails from old hitch,
it did come a LITTLE scratched up from shipping . one thing i wish it had more height / it does sit lower than old hitch buy 1 inch. haven't tried pulling yet / will up date latter . hope it pulls as good as it looks.
now no problem for bigger trailer, i hope! maybe a toy hauler?

I purchased a higher rated (weight) Curt hitch to prevent 'rolling' forward during hard stops. The new hitch far exceeds my trailer weight but I continue to have the problem, although not as often. I had the new hitch professionally installed.

Have not had the opportunity to use the new hitch to pull our RV, but did hook up to the RV to check height and ease of hookup, it's great, very happy with this hitch so far.
Ease of ordering was excellent, received it within 5 days in great condition.

I bought this hitch because I am a firm believer in buy heavier than I need for safety. This hitch has been absolutely wonderful. The fifth wheel pull great with no jarring and the solid feel when attached is comforting. I can easily reach everything I need to set the hitch and lock it. The jaws are very easy to tell if I am completely hooked or not and the lock works great for a quick look to tell if ready. This hitch was very well priced (cheaper than lighter rated models) without being of "cheap" quality. I have enjoyed this hitch very much and thank goodness it breaks down into pieces for removal as it is a very heavy unit.

Got my Curt Q24 finally. A very good, quality, heavy hitch. It was just a little scratched up, in same spots as all others seems to post - do to shipping by UPS. Etrailer did double box it to help, so all in all it wasn't bad. It is definitely a heavy hitch, but being able to quickly break it into pieces (head removes easily) makes it much more manageable to put in and out of the truck. Can't wait for the trailer to get in so I can try out this hitch...
Installed onto Curt rails in a 2006 F350, with no issue. Will be pulling a 18k 43' 5er soon!
Shipping was a bit on the slow side compared to other reviews - took 2 weeks to get it, but luckily my trailer is also delayed so I didn't need it immediately.

Haven't towed with it yet,but looks like it will be more user friendly than my previous hitch.I had to adjust my rails a little to get it to fit.Shipping speed was excellent. While etrailer wrapped and stapled over the manufacturer box the contents when opened had several places where the paint was missing due to parts rubbing together during shipment.

We took it to a shop to have it installed. It looks great, and the features to make sure our 5th wheel is securely locked in place give us peace of mind. And it's nice that the rails are made just for our 2016 Ram 3500 long bed. It really is well made and is a brute. Can't wait to get out on the road.

Ordered my Curt 24k 5th wheel hitch on Tuesday, received around 230 Friday, and was installed by 5pm same day ( already had the rails). I am anxious to hook up my Heartland Big Country 3650RL to my 2006 Chevrolet dually and roll down the highway.
The hitch is alI i expected it to be, and it is quite heavy, but managed to get it installed by myself after reading the great installation instructions. As in other posts, slight scratches during shipping due to packing materials used by Curt, not etrailer's fault.
My RV has a tongue weight of 2350 lbs, 14000 overall, and 39'6" lenghth. Expectations are high that this hitch will handle it well! Thanks for the great service

Received my hitch very quickly, two days with free shipping. However, the hitch did arrive with a couple scraps. The company needs to work on the packaging and shipping prep. That being said, I am very happy with the hitch and the company. I called them prior to buying it and they answered all my questions, very helpful. I'd definitely buy another product from them.

Easy to use. Hook up is smooth. The draw handle pulls easily when ready to disconnect. Just be sure to have the weight of the trailer off of the truck before trying to pull the handle. I have found that the handle does not always lock in the open position and occasionally needs to be held open as the truck is driven forward.

We had a short bed Ram 2500 and upgraded to a Ram 3500 Dually. We had a Demco Auto slide hitch in the old truck that worked well but I wanted to get back to basics without all the moving parts and noise. This hitch performed beyond my expectations. I received this box four days later than the hitch mount box, but that was due to the shipping company, not E-trailer! I assembled and installed the hitch, yet removed in preparation for the spray-in bed liner. It's easy to assemble and seperate into two more manageable pieces. Can't wait to start hauling the RV!

Arrived timely in a very well protected carton. Handled shipping better than any other 150 lb item I received in a cardboard box. There are a few small scratches but nothing that some minor touch-up (semi-gloss?) won't take care of. Was able to put it together alone and install in the mounting rails in about 30 minutes. Heavier than my old 15k hitch but not so heavy I can't position it alone. May enlist help when it's time to put it away in the fall.

Very strong hitch. I like that it easily can be taken apart, makes it not so heavy to install. Glad it has grease fittings, should last longer. Positive indication of locking to kingpin. Came within 2 days of placing the order.
Dual jaws give a sense of security.

Delivery was on time and the hitch was as described. When I opened the box the manufacturer failed to include the mounting hardware. I contacted etrailer customer service and missing items were shipped - service after the sale was excellent.
