Quickly and easily connect your towed car's lighting system to your RV to activate the signal lights required for towing. This custom harness plugs directly into your towed vehicle's existing wiring - no cutting or splicing required.
Features:
Typically, wiring your vehicle for flat towing is a tremendous chore. You have to position and mount multiple diodes beneath your car and then splice into the vehicle's wiring. Before cutting and splicing, though, you have to use a circuit tester to identify each wire. This must be done for the wires carrying signals from your running lights, brake lights, and both turn signal lights. And don't forget to jump the diodes so that the running light signal is sent to both sides of your car.
Or you could just plug in the TrailerMate wiring harness. This custom-fit system plugs into your towed vehicle's existing wiring harness, which is located behind your car's tail light assemblies. No cutting, tapping or splicing is required. The wiring around the plugs is encased in durable convoluted tubing, making it easier to handle and safer to route as well.
After plugging in the wiring harness, use the included bracket to mount the 4-way flat connector at the front of your towed car. Then hook up to your RV with the supplied wiring extension, and you're good to tow. Note: The extension included with this system requires that your RV have a 4-wire flat trailer connector. If your RV has a 7-pole round connector, or another type of connector, then an adapter is required.
Because your vehicle has a combined lighting system - wherein the brake signals and the turn signals are carried on a single wire - a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if you use a supplemental braking system with your towing setup. A supplemental braking system depresses the brake pedal in your towed vehicle every time you apply the brakes in your RV. So, if your towed car's brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed and the engine is off - as is the case when towing - then you need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed vehicle always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.
When you're not flat towing your car, the TrailerMate wiring harness can remain on your vehicle; it will not interfere with the electronics. And if you ever tow a trailer with your car, you'll be wired and ready. The TrailerMate system comes ready to accept 4-flat wiring (TM85330 - sold separately) at the rear of your vehicle so that you can hook up a trailer quickly and easily. Just plug in the add-on 4-way trailer connector, and you're good to go.

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this TrailerMate Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles. This is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, and on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the Fit Guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application. This kit here will let you connect your RV's tail brake and turn signal lights to your towed vehicle's lighting system.
It provides this four-way flat plug at the front of your towed car to connect to your motor home. Now this part will include everything laid out here on the table. It includes this wiring harness with the four-way flat connector. Right here it includes the 48-inch-long four-way flat extension loop, four-way mounting bracket for the front of your vehicle, and about 20 cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring, and a nice set of installation instructions. Now a brake light relay may be required if you're using this with a supplemental braking system.
That brake light relay, we do sell separately on our website. It's part number RM-88400. Basically, this plugs in very quickly and easily. There's no cutting or splicing of your wires. The connection points are located behind your vehicle's tail lights, and you have these connectors here.
The one that has the yellow wire in it is for the driver's side. Over here you have a green wire. That's for your passenger side. So you just plug these in. You have a white wire for a ground.
They do include a grounding screw. And then you just run this length of wire out to the back with your four-way. The four-way even has a nice cover on it that you could put over there when you're not towing to protect those terminals from the elements. Now, this helps safeguard your towed car's electrical system by preventing overload with the built-in diodes, and it won't interfere with your electrical system when the towed vehicle is not hooked up to the RV. It is compatible with most portable supplemental braking system. Now, additional diodes may be required if using a braking system that ties into wiring. Those, again, we sell separately, and, as we mentioned, this is custom designed to fit your specific vehicle. But that should do it for the review on the TrailerMate Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles.
