Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2004 to 2009 Kia Spectra vehicles. On a custom fit part, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year model vehicle, and it'll show you if this part will work for your application. This harness does provide this four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with five-pole, six-pole, and seven-pole adapters that we do sell separately. Now, this whole kit will connect very quickly and easily.

There's no cutting or splicing of wires. Basically, you just locate your connection points in the rear cargo area behind the tail lights, plug in these connectors, one on each side, ground your white wire, and then run the power wire to your vehicle's battery. Now, this kit does include this black box which is a tail light converter, and this is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It is a powered module. That's why we'll connect it directly to the battery.

The reason we do this is to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. The plugs right here, they use protective connection terminals to help resist corrosion. Does come with this nice dust cap for the four-way. What you can do with this is you're going to attach it to your four-way plug, and you can leave it attached if you like. Once you get it attached on there, and you stretch it over there, there we go. Then once it's on there you can leave it on there, but what you want to do is when you're not plugged into your trailer just go ahead and put the dust cap over the terminals. When you do that, just get it right on there, there we go, you can put it over there and it'll protect those terminals from any damage or from the elements.

That does come with everything you see here on the table, a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install everything. A few specs on this, the maximum amperage on this kit for the stop and turn light circuits is 4.2 amps per circuit. For the tail light circuit it's 7.5 amps. Just briefly, how you would install this is again you go to the rear cargo area behind the tail lights. I would recommend starting on the driver side. You'll take the connector here that has the yellow wire in it.

You'll unplug the harness from the tail lights, plug this in between the harness and the tail lights, and then you'll take this other connector that has a length of green wire. That's for the passenger side. Run this all the way over to the passenger side, plug this in behind the tail lights. Then what you want to do is this converter box here, you want to make sure to attach that to a good flat surface so it doesn't bounce around. If you take some of the included cable ties you can use that to attach it down. Then you have your two wires left, the white wire and the red wire. Now, the white wire will have an eyelet on it. That's for the ground. You want to connect this to a good, clean ground if there's one nearby. If not, you can use the grounding screw that it comes with and make your own. Then, your power wire, the red wire with the butt connector on it, that needs to run to your vehicle's battery. To help you with that they include this length of wire. What you'll do is connect the one end to the power wire with the butt connector and then run this wire all the way up to the vehicle's battery. Now, when you get up to the front you don't want to connect this directly to the battery. You want to run this through the inline fuse holder first. We'll connect the power wire to the butt connector on the one side of the fuse holder. The other side had the eyelet on it. You'll connect that to the vehicle's battery. Pop open your fuse holder. They give you an included 20 amp fuse. Just push that into the fuse holder, put the cap back on it, and then your system's all ready to go. Now, they do have extra cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring there, and the other nice thing is they include this packet of terminal grease, or dielectric grease. That's good to use on all your electrical connections. Put some grease on these connectors before you plug them in, and even on the four-way put some grease on there before you plug it into the trailer. That grease on there will help protect it from any corrosion forming on those connections. That should do it for the review on the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four-way flat trailer connector.

2008 Kia Spectra

I purchased the Draw-Tite trailer hitch item# 24743 for my 2008 Kia Spectra. I also purchased the Draw-Tite Drawbar item #3594 also the Draw Tite Hopkins Wiring Harness # HM111043924. I give them all a Five Star rating. I received all the order in a few days after I ordered it,everything was as they advertised it to be. I am a 70 year old man and it was a breeze to put on my car. They even sent me an email about the order. It had videos on each part,, and yes it went on just as the videos said. I am very pleased with their product and will recommend it to everyone. If they had more stars, I would give them more than five Stars. Great People give them a call.

2008 Kia Spectra

I purchased this Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector (HM11143924) at the same time as I purchased a Curt Manufacturing hitch (11679) for my 2008 Kia Spectra form etrailer.
Super easy to install. No issues to write about. Everything needed for the install was included with it..... even dielectric grease to mitigate corrosion on the connections and a cover for the end of the flat 4 connector. Everything tested A-OK the first time I tried it without having to go back on fiddle with any of the wiring. :) I bought this product since I know how iffy the wiring is on this car with having the extra load on the lighting system. I will be using it with a small utility trailer.

  • How Can I Transport My Mobility Scooter on My 2009 Kia Spectra?
From the information I have on your mother's 2009 Kia Spectra, her vehicle has a maximum tongue weight rating of 200 pounds. With that maximum vehicle rating, even if there was a hitch receiver rated for over 200 pounds, you would still need to abide by that 200-pound maximum capacity of the vehicle. With that being said, unfortunately, the only hitch we carry for her vehicle is the Curt Hitch - 1-1/4" # C11679. In order to make sure that your mother's Spectra has a maximum weight capacity...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2009 Kia Spectra
A fifth wheel trailer is one that can only be towed by a truck as the truck will have a special hitch installed in the bed for towing a larger trailer (see picture). Fifth wheel trailers are almost always camper trailers and I believe you may just be looking for a hitch to tow a smaller, bumper pull trailer with your 2009 Kia Spectra. For a trailer hitch the Curt part # C11679 is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and would work great for towing a small camper. For trailer wiring you'd then...
