This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind the rear bumper, near your spare tire on the driver's side.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins plug in simple wiring harness. This product fits a 2006-2010 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer. To ensure double check that this is a fit for your vehicle you can always use the vehicle fit guide at etrailer.com. This is going to provide a four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is designed for use with a factory tow package. It is compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters.
Adapters are sold separately. And it comes with a dust cap for the four way flat connector. That way you can cover up your connection points whenever your plug isn't being used. The unit's going to feature protective connection terminals, that are designed to resist corrosion and it's going to connect quickly and easily. No cutting or splicing required. All you need to do is locate the connection point behind the rear bumper.
That's going to be near the spare tire on the driver side. Plug in your connector. This is custom fit for the vehicle. The plug's going to match up perfectly with the port on the vehicle. It's going to snap lock together for a nice, tight secure fit.
Really that's all there is to it. Once you have that connected, all you need to do is secure any excess or slack in your wiring with the included cable ties. Once your installs complete, the four way connector's going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. You can loop it around a safety chain loop on the hitch or you could a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately and available at etrailer.com if you're interested. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of the included terminal grease on all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pole connector itself.
