Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your Honda Pilot with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into OEM tow package wiring harness - no cutting or splicing required.
Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side. You will have to remove the floor coverings, storage trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Honda Pilot, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number: HM43134. This is gonna give you all the proper lighting functions for your trailer. Gonna give you your brakes, both turn signals, your running lights, and your ground. Now, this wiring harness can live in or outside of the vehicle, it's also gonna come with a dust cap to help keep any moisture and elements off of your metal connections here. Since ours here today is gonna be living outside of the vehicle, we have it attached to a bracket, which is gonna keep it stationary on the hitch. This is what you're gonna get in your wiring kit.
Simply gonna plug into your existing wiring on your vehicle. Your 4-pole flat with a dust cap. What's gonna be most important with this is this box right here. This box is gonna keep any back feed from going into your factory wiring in your vehicle and causing damage to your wiring there. So to begin our installation, over here on our driver's side in the back of the vehicle, we're gonna take off this panel here, and then this small panel here. We'll take a flathead screwdriver, pop it out like this.
And what we're looking for is a factory plug that's gonna match the inside of this. Right behind this panel, on the inside, you reach your hand up, you'll find that plug. So we're gonna take the connection off of our tow wiring kit and we're gonna feed it up underneath this box up like this. We'll take our factory wiring and push the two together like that. Next thing we need to do is find a place to mount our modular box.
And if you look right here on this wall, right in here's a good flat spot that we can stick it onto. You can see on the back, it has some double sided tape. Go ahead and peel off that side. Make sure you press it firmly into place.Next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna mount our ground wire. You want to make sure that your ground wire is on metal surface, not on any plastic.
And we're gonna take our self-tapping screw and a 1/4" socket. Once you have your ground connected to the vehicle, essentially, you're done with the installation. Now, this wiring harness can live inside the vehicle or outside. If you do plan on keeping this inside the vehicle, you want to make sure that you run the wire over top of the rubber seal and stay away from any connection points. If you want it to be inside the vehicle whenever you're not using it, you can simply just tuck it back in here and put this panel back in place. When you're ready to use it, pull it out. In this case, this customer is wanting it to live outside the vehicle. From here we'll go ahead and put this top panel back in place. What we're gonna do is, right back here there's a grommet, a round grommet, we're gonna take this 4-pole end, we're gonna take that grommet out and run that 4-pole down there and over to the center of the vehicle to the hitch bracket. Now I'm just gonna take a screwdriver and push this grommet out, just like that. I'll take my 4-pole, go ahead and pull the dust cap off. I'm gonna feed it right down through the hole like that. As you can see here, on the back side of the vehicle, on the driver's side, came right out of this hole. And we're just gonna come over like this. I'm actually gonna take it right through this hole in the back of the bracket that's on our hitch. Leave it hanging just like that. Now, if you do want your wiring to live outside, you don't have this bracket or you don't want to purchase a long bracket and the bracket holder, you could actually use the dust cap as a holder on your safety chain rings when you're not using it.Now, we're gonna be using bracket part number: HM48595. This bracket does come with self-tapping screws, but we're gonna be using just bolts, a flat washer, a star washer, and a nut. What we're gonna do, we're gonna take it and we're gonna set it right inside like this, and it's gonna mount just like that. So we'll take our bolts, feed them up like that, and we'll follow that with our nut, and then we'll do the same thing on the other side. I'm gonna take some long zip ties, take some of my extra wiring because I want it to be tight, zip tie it up like this to my hitch, and put another one here. Cut off this extra. I'm gonna take my grommet and I'm actually gonna split it like this to the center. Put my wiring up. Push it back into place like that. We'll put some silicone on there to seal it up. Around the wiring. I'm actually gonna take a little bit of silicone here on the inside of the vehicle and put it around the wiring here, too. Just to get a little extra covering. So, once we've got all that done, go ahead and put this panel back in place. The directions are not gonna tell you you need a fuse, so what I recommend you do is, you come up here to the front of the vehicle and you're gonna look for this panel. It's gonna be on the driver's side up by the firewall. You're gonna take off this cover here, and what you want to look for . so you turn it over, it tells you in here, what you're looking for is TRL MAIN on the inside of the cover, which is gonna be this one here. If you do not have a fuse in there you're gonna need to purchase one. You're gonna purchase a 30 amp fuse, it's gonna look like this, and you can find them pretty much any hardware store. Since we don't have a fuse here, we're gonna go ahead and install this 30 amp fuse in place. Now we'll test out our wiring using part number: I26. Brakes, left turn, right turn, running lights. And that'll do it for the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number HM43134, on our 2016 Honda Pilot.

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into OEM tow package wiring harness - no cutting or splicing required.Extremely easy install. Great video for installation instructions. Minimal tools needed
Fast, easy install. The supplied videos were of my exact model so knew what to expect. Done in 15 min.
Harness installed pretty easily, but it does not include a grommet so I had to cut and glue the grommet that comes with the car. Rather than drill a hole in the sheet metal for the ground wire, I just used one of the existing Phillips-head screws in the general area of the white connector ( I checked to see if it was grounded first with a voltmeter touching the 12V accessory socket in the back of the car). The biggest headache occurred when testing the four wires to see if they worked. With the engine running, I got no voltage readout, because you need a 30 amp fuse, which isn't included in the kit, and which is not needed according to the FAQ's on this site. I was only able to get a voltage readout when I put in the fuse.
The wiring harness was very easy to connect and works great.
Eric is extremely helpful and I will continue to do business with etrailer !
Very easy install in my Honda Pilot after watching your video! Really strange that they don’t include the 30A fuse that is REQUIRED to have the item work. After a stop at an auto parts store I was good to go.

This kit does not include the necessary fuses to activate the Pilots tow package. Both the Tekonsha # 118760 and Curt # C56291 wiring harnesses include the fuses needed to activate the tow package.

Amazing trailer hitch very well made fit exactly no problems what do ever and the shipping is also amazing this company said it would be 3 days and it was 3 days. I love it when a company makes a great product and you get it when they say you will get. I will definitely buy from them again thanks for being amazing all around
Very easy to install, literally plug and play. The OEM location was very inconvenient but the product itself was very easy to install and has been running flawlessly for over a year. Very happy.
I watched the video and had this installed in five minutes. Very easy to install and as always, eTrailer had the right item, quick shipping, and easy to follow installation videos.
No 30 amp fuse included. This needs to be told to customers in advance.

Thank you for your review. This wiring harness made by Hopkins does not include the fuses needed to activate the tow package. For that reason, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package part # C56291 that does include the fuses.
Perfect fit for the Honda Pilot 2018 EX AWD, very good quality.
Super nice product. Easy to install only problem the bolt they said to put ground wire on the eye was to dmall for bolt. I just cut it off and replaced with bigger wire eye let. No worries. Maybe 10 mins to install
Followed install video and got it installed in 15 minutes. Instruction in package were worthless.
It was missing the fuse for the car

Hopkins doesnt include the fuse, because in many but not all cases the fuse is already in place in the vehicle.
