Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - C56345 Review

Presenter: Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt t-connector vehicle wiring harness with a four-way flat trailer connector. This product fits a 2005 to 2007 Ford Escape and a 2005 to 2006 Mazda Tribute. To ensure or double-check that this is a fit for your vehicle, you can always use the vehicle fit guide at etrailer.com. This provides a four-way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. It is compatible with five-pole, six-pole, and seven-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately. It's going to come with a dust cap for the four-way flat connector.

That way, you can cover up the connection points when your plug's not being used. The dust cap is actually tethered to the housing of the four-way flat connector. That way, you don't have to worry about misplacing that or losing that. The black box is the included tail light convertor. This ensures that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's.

The powered module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Now, the unit's constructed using surface mount technology. That's going to offer consistent, reliable performance. What that means is it maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, and it ensures superior operation even in rough road conditions. Now, this is designed to connect quickly and easily. All you need to do is locate your connection points behind your tail lights and then simply plug in all of your connectors. Now, these connectors are custom-fit for your vehicle, so they're going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle.

They're going to push together. They're going to snap lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you have those connected, you'll need to make a ground connection. That's your white wire with the ring terminal attached to it. Get that grounded to a suitable grounding location with the included grounding screw. Once you have that done, you can go ahead and mount your convertor box.

You want to get this mounted to a safe, out of the way location. You can use the cable tie provided with the kit. You can also use the double-sided adhesive foam tape to get that mounted as well. Then, you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is the short black wire coming out of the box. This gets connected to one end of the bundle with one of the included buck connectors. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery, gets another buck connector attached to it, and contains to one half of the included fuse holder. The other half of the fuse holder gets a ring terminal attached to it and connects to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It does come with a 10 amp fuse. It goes directly in the fuse holder, and it's got the cap that goes over it to keep it safe and protected. Once you have that done, you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring with the included cable ties. Then, once your install is complete, the four-way connectors are going to be stowed in an out of the way location within your rear cargo area. Plenty of wiring here. That way, you can pull it out the back when you need to use it, roll it up, and tuck it away when you don't. It is recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all of your electrical connections, like the plugs on your vehicle and the four-pole connector itself. That grease is specifically designed to help prevent corrosion to the connection points. It is sold separately and available at etrailer.com. When it comes to the maximum amperage for your stop and turn lights, we're looking at 3 amps per circuit, and, for the tail lights, 6 amps per circuit. The unit also comes with detailed installation instructions that will walk you through the whole process step by step. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt t-connector vehicle wiring harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector.

I actually had to replace this after just one year. I was on a dirt road and something yanked the wires out of my connector, causing them to touch and short circuit. That's not a problem in itself, but the fuse did not protect the electronic module and it was damaged in the process. While the initial damage was not Curt's fault, the purpose of the fuse is to protect the sensitive electronics and that did not happen. Otherwise it's a good product, easy to install and use. Just don't short it out.

The reverse light female connector is incorrect. Having to order the right female connector and manipulate the harness that was already suppose to be easy installation.

The provided double sided tape had no adhesive to it what so ever. Assuming it is extremely old or something.

This harness only comes with a 4-way connector that does not include a reverse light wire. You can add an adapter like part # 20036 for the reverse wire function. You would just need to wire the blue wire info the reverse light wire on the vehicle.

2010 Ford Escape

This product fit my daughters Ford Escape perfectly, I had previously ordered a trailer hitch and wiring harness but I inadvertently ordered the wrong wiring harness (to be fair, there was nothing wrong with the harness. If Ford had done their job it would have been perfect for the job). Trailer hitch fit perfectly and this wireing harness was perfect. My thanks to George and Carol at Etrailer. Products were correct and shipping was very fast. If I could give 10 stars I would.

This wiring harness fit my 2006 Ford Escape. I had no trouble getting to to work and no issues with installation. Overall great product and still functioning strong one year later.

Hello, the first wiring set we got burned up so we had to buy a new one. The new one we got from etrailer and it has been great. It's made well and has held up perfectly. I would recommend this to anyone needing to wire up for towing purposes.

Fairly difficult and time consuming to install; instructions not specific enough especially where to hook up green wire connectors on passenger side taillight (it goes on the turn signal connector); good luck getting your old connectors apart, I broke every clip. Not to worry, just wrap them snug with electrical tape after the new ones are connected and you'll be good to go.

See what our Experts say about this CURT Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2005 Ford Escape
Your 2005 Ford Escape has what is called a separate or 3-wire system. This means that it has turn signals and brake lights that are on different circuits. Trailers have what is called a combined or 2-wire system which means the brake lights and turn signals are on the same circuit. In order to have the proper functions from a vehicle side 4-Way you will need a wiring harness that has a converter. The converter takes the separate signals from the vehicle and combines them so that the 4-Way...

  • Troubleshooting Curt C56345 Trailer Wiring Harness
I'd recommend reviewing the installation instructions. Check the T-connection where the taillight assemblies plug into the # C56345 harness. If the connections aren't fully seated, the vehicle taillights will not work. Push the connections together until they click, they're designed to be a tight fit. Also, make sure the black lead from the converter box is ran to the positive battery terminal via the induced fuse holder and that the fuse is full seated in the holder.

  • How To Wire The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring To A 2006 Mazda Tribute
I spoke with Curt in regards to the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56345 that you're having trouble with, and they mentioned that the reference to grounding the red wire is if the you are going to hardwire the unit for some reason and also have a two-wire system. You can ignore this, and will just need to plug the unit in and hook up the power and ground to make it function properly.

  • Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2006 Ford Escape
We do have a tail light wiring harness for your 2006 Ford Escape with a higher amp rating than the T-One harness you previously used. I recommend installing the Curt T-Connector Harness, # C56345, which installs the same way as your T-One harness. For the brake light/turn signals, this harness is rated at 3 amps per circuit versus 2.1 amps for the T-One harness and for the tail lights it is rated at 6 amps verses 4.2 amps for the T-One harness.

  • How To Tell If a 2006 Ford Escape Has the Factory Tow Package
The dealer will be able to tell you whether or not your 2006 Ford Escape has the factory tow package but the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56345 works on models both with or without so this is what I recommend using. It simply plugs in behind the tail lights. There is no relay to insert. Please note, most models without a factory trailer connector won't have the tow package so the above is likely what you need regardless.
