Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove the tail lights, trunk floor coverings, storage trays, and the rear scuff panel to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt T connector vehicle wiring harness with the 4 pull flat trailer connector. This product is going to fit certain years and models of the Acura ILX. It's going to provide a 4 way flat connector at the back of the vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with 5 pull, 6 pull, and 7 pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately. It's going to come with a dust cap for the 4 way flat connector.
That way you can cover up the connection points when your plug's not being used. It's a really nice feature of the unit. It also features the included tail light converter. This is the black box that's pre wired into the kit. This is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailers. The powered module is going to pull power from the vehicle's battery which is going to avoid over loading the vehicle's electrical system.
The unit's constructed using service inaudible 00:48 technology which is going to offer consistent reliable performance. What that does, it simply maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat and it's going to ensure superior operation even in rougher conditions. Now another main benefit of a system like this is that it connects quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate the connection points behind your tail lights and then you're going to have 3 sets of connectors to get plugged in. The set with the green wire goes to the passenger side of the vehicle. The other two is going to go to the driver side of the vehicle.
Locate those connection points behind the tail lights. The unit's going to come with detailed installation instructions to indicate exactly where those are. Locate them, plug in your connectors and then you'll need to make your ground connection. Your ground wire is the white wire with the ring terminal attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a nice clean metal surface with the included grounding screw and then you'll need to mount your converter box.
You want to do this with the included double sided adhesive tape. Make sure you get this mounted to a nice clean out of the way location. Then you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead's going to be the black wire coming out of the converter box. This is going to get connected to the bundle of black wire with one of the included butt connectors. The other end of the black wire runs to the vehicle battery. It gets another butt connector attached to it and then connects to one half of the fuse holder. The other half of the fuse holder gets a ring terminal attached to it and gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It also comes with your 10 amp fuse and a fuse cap to keep the fuse safe and protected right there in the fuse holder. Once you have all that done, you can secure all of your excess wiring or slack in the wiring with the included zip ties, making sure all the wires are up and out of the way. Once your installs complete, the 4 way connector's going to be stowed in an out of the way location within your cargo area. I also want to recommend that you use a small amount of grease on all of your electrical connections, some dielectric grease. This is sold separately. You can fine it here at etrailer.com. What that grease does is it simply helps prevent corrosion to the connection points. Now when it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 3 amps per circuit and for the tail lights we're looking at 6 amps per circuit.
