Rob: Rob here at etrailer.com, and today you're going to be taking a look at the PTC Custom Fit Cabin Air Filter on our 2016 Acura MDX.Now a cabin filter is going to do for your car, what a furnace filter does for your house. It's going to filter all the air that's coming inside, so we can make sure that we're breathing clean, fresh air. Because what most people don't realize is, the air inside your car can actually be six times more polluted than the air outside. Because that's going to come through our vents, and once it gets in here has nowhere to go, so those emissions and allergens are going to get stuck in our car. But our cabin filter is going to make sure it doesn't come through the vents and cause any breathing issues.Most cars in the road are going to have a cabin air filter, and it's really important to check it each time, because if we don't check in, the filter starts to get dirty, well, our AC and our heat is not going to blow as well. Not to mention if any larger pieces get through our system, it can do a lot of damage.

So you do want to check it regularly, about every 12 to 18,000 miles, or once a year, but you want to double-check your owner's manual for a specific time frame. There's no real need to pay anybody to do this, because it is a very straightforward process. In fact, let's go ahead and do it together.We're going to want to open up our glove box, so come to the passenger side, push the button and open it up. And if we look inside at the very back, we're going to have this plastic panel, and these two little tabs, want to press down on those tabs, and we'll pull that panel away, lift it out of the way. Behind there, we'll have our cabin air filter cover, each end is going to have this little tab, you kind of want to squeeze in and pull out at the same time.

We're going to grab the cover, and pull the filter out, and we can check it.So here you can see the difference between our brand-new filter, and the one that we had in there. It's actually starting to turn a little brown and get a little dingy, and you can see it's actually catching the larger pieces of debris, which is a good thing. So we're going to go ahead and take it out, and we'll put the new one in. Just push up from the bottom, and we'll lift the filter out. Now one thing you do want to pay attention to, is on our filter that we took out, it's going to have airflow with the arrows pointing down.

You want to make sure you pay attention to the airflow direction, because again, just like your furnace filter, our filter is going to have an airflow direction to it.So we'll grab the new one, and well find the airflow, again, it's pointing down so you want to make sure it sits in the tray just like this. And it's just a matter of reversing the steps, putting everything back into place. Push the cover in, making sure it locks into place, slide our glovebox cover back in, now we're ready to hit the road.
