Ellen: Hey, everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're taking a quick look at the Performance Tool 210 piece mechanic set. This is going to be a really great thing to have at home or around your garage, in your vehicle to be able to change out anything that might happen on your vehicle, do stuff around the house. It's just always good to have a nice set of tools.Now, as far as kind of like where does this fit in the echelon of tools, I would say that this is probably about mid-level. It's going to be a little bit nicer than just kind of a basic set, just because it gives you so many pieces, but if you're going to be a full-time mechanic or anybody who's going to be using these tools day in and day out for really long-term wear and tear, probably, would want to go with something a little bit higher end than this. But I think it's going to be a great addition to just your home set to have, makes a really good spare or to have a double set, just to have in your vehicle or anywhere that you're not going to have your main tools.So as far as what comes in the kit, it does come with a hard case to keep all of our stuff together.

And something that I like about this is that it's still pretty easy to get things in and out of it. That's a one big thing with these cases is not only does it hold your stuff, but you want it to be able to keep everything in place, but still be able to get it out pretty easy. So sometimes you have to pry these out with like a screwdriver because they hold so tight or they fall out and everything just gets all over the place. But I feel like this one does it pretty well. It keeps everything where it needs to be, but it's not hard to get things out of their spot.

Same thing for the combo wrenches here, everything that I've tried.And I haven't gone through each and every single socket, but these are all just set in place here. The little bit drivers like the Torx bit and stuff like that, those might be the hardest to get out, but they're not too bad. I've had some sets where I have to seriously use a pair of pliers to get them out of this little block, but these, I haven't had any trouble getting those out of place, so that's one thing that I really do like about this set.And also as far as the case goes, the hinge, it's hard to kind of tell in there, but I think that it's held by a metal pin, so it's not just a little flap of plastic that's going to break immediately. So that's another thing to fall into the plus category.As far as what comes in the kit, I'm not going to go through every single thing that comes in here. The complete list is on our website, so you can see all the tools that are listed here.

You do get metric and SAE tools. So we'll have our half inch, three eighths inch and a quarter inch drive socket, and then the appropriate sockets to go with those or a drive ratchet, I should say, not socket, and then we'll have deep well and short well sockets for that. You get a little quarter inch bit driver here, just a handheld guy. You got a couple of extensions, a quarter inch extension, and a coupler as well. And you also get some hex tools.

So we'll have Torx bit, a set of those guys, a metrics set, and some of these are doubled. So that makes it nice, if you've got any screws that are the same size heads or like trying to hold a nut or something like that, you have two, might come in handy in that respect. And then we'll also have a set of standard or standard American size.So a pretty nice set to have in your home. Again, for all kinds of use, there's even a five-eighths inch spark plug socket, so, that's a handy tool to have to be able to do that kind of maintenance on your vehicle. We got another extension up there, that's for our three-eighths inch socket or excuse me, three-eighths inch ratchet to get into some harder to reach spots.All in all, I think this is a really nice set. It'd be a great Christmas gift or birthday gift, especially for somebody who's just starting out. You do have some bit drivers here as well. As far as the case, I'm going to shut it up and shake it around just so you can see how well it holds things in place. I think the catches are pretty solid. So pretty compact, pretty slim.I did put that piece of foam in there, but that shouldn't really make too much difference, but everything is in the same spot, so that's pretty nice. It doesn't just all fall out at you. Now, if you we're to have this over. turn it the wrong way, these will fall out. So that's something to keep in mind whenever you open it up, you want to see that PT logo on the top, and that'll let you know that it's right side up.But that's pretty much all there is to it for our look at this tool set. Again, I think that this is going to be a really good thing to have around the house. Not really meant for the everyday use for like a mechanic or somebody like that. Just the ratchets. I'll run those, so you can actually hear the gears in there. They're pretty good, but not super high quality. So just something to keep in mind, just being honest. So if we turn this, pretty good amount of gears there to make sure that it's going to hold in place. The little switch to get your. or the quick release, seems like it works pretty well. That's usually a big point of failure in these guys. I don't think that you'd have too much trouble with that coming out. It looks like it's pinned in there pretty well. And that's going to be the same for these two guys, and this one as well, little bitty guy.So, all in all, good set, comes with a lot of stuff. A couple of other things you might want to get pliers or a tape measure, things like that, that this kit doesn't come with. But I think it does compare pretty well to other sets that are in this same price range, and for the amount of parts that it has.So I hope this has been helpful deciding if this is the right set for you.
