Video Transcript for PTC Heavy Duty Engine Air Filter Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Ryan: How's it going Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ,we'll be taking a look at and showing you how to install the PTC Custom Fit Engine Air filter. Over here on the left side, we have the factory filter, which has recently been replaced, but I'd figured I'd lay the factory one next to the PTC one, that way we can kind of compare the two. Now as you can see, they're extremely similar and that way you can rest assured that with the PTC, your engine is going to be able to breathe freely. What these filters are going to do is filter the outside air before it enters your engine. That's going to help keep it running strong for a long time.Now the way you would tell when these need to be changed is first, the coloration.

After a while, these will start to get kind of discolored and dirty, and if you kind of start separating the pleat, you'll know it needs changed or not only the inside of these are dirty, but usually you'll have some dirt and debris, some old leaves, stuff like that, kind of built up inside of those pleats.To begin our installation, we're going to be underneath the hood on the front passenger side right here next to our air box. Now the first thing I'm wanting to do is unplug our mass airflow sensor. There's a little red tab, you can push up on it and then you can push in the center and release it like this. Now you don't have to disconnect this, although it does give us a little bit more room to work.Now if you come right here, we're going to have a clamp. We're going to loosen that up, that way we can disconnect it from our air box.

So I'm going to use a eight millimeter socket or you can use a flathead screwdriver, and just give that a couple turns. We're not going to be able to completely pop it off right this minute, but what you can kind of do is get it started to break free.Now if you come over to our air box itself, on each corner, we're going to have an eight millimeter screw that we need to take out, and you can also use a Phillips head screwdriver. And like I said, we're going to have one just like this on each corner. Once all those screws are out of the way, you can grab the lid and kind of start to work it out. And at this point, we're able to push back on our tube, pop that off, and just carefully slide it out of place and set it off to the side.

And to get your old filter out, all you do is grab it and lift up. At that point, you can take your new filter, drop it into place, and just repeat that same process in reverse order.If you unplugged your mass airflow sensor, do not forget to plug it back in. Just line the connector back up, push down, then you just push that red tab back down.And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the PTC Custom Fit Engine air filter on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
