Video Transcript for Inno Roof Deck Platform Rack Rail Kit Review and Installation

AJ: What's up everybody, it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're going to check out these Inno add-on rails, to the Inno Roof Deck. These rails you're going to want to add onto the top of your roof deck, just to have some tie-down points or just have like a little bit of a safety wall. I know aesthetically, I think it looks better with the rails on there and it comes off more of as roof baskets. I know that I got everything tied down pretty well, but just in case I don't, and there's a slight shift, you've got the rails there for protecting things from falling off. Let's take a closer look.

Now there's two different size rail kits for the two different size roof decks. Today we're using the 39 and a half by 43 and one quarter, but there's also a rail kit for the 55 by 55.You might be wondering right away, if you have the platform rack, why can't you just run the straps down through here And you can, there's nothing wrong with that. You've run the straps down to one of these bars down here, or this one here, but then it would be just pulling it straight down. There's still allow a little bit of moving from side to side that way. When it runs through the rails, it's kind of pull down at an angle and pulling it towards the rail itself.

So then, it's just going to be another point of contact added, making sure your load's secure. Much like the platform rack itself, the rails are made out of aluminum with a black powder coat finish. So don't have to worry about if you leave this on top of your vehicle, the elements aren't going to bother it. It's not going to corrode or cause any problems. It's on they're nice and sturdy, too. I can shake the whole car back and forth.

The rails don't move independently or have caused any problems or any weakness to the platform rack. Now also, aerodynamics. It's not going to add any wind noise or drag when you're driving on the road. I know that the platform design is really popular with the overlanding crowd. Maybe it's just because they don't want the rails in the way they can reach up and grab whatever they need.

There's no rail lift up and over and out, but I prefer having the rails on there, making it look more like a roof basket because it just to me makes it seem more secure. There is rails there as a backup, and just more tie-down points that are ready to go and more accessible, keeping my gear safe when I'm going down the road. It's really easy install so I'm just going to show you really quickly how we did it. We're going to drop our block here. Right in the T-track area.Slide it down and line up with the way it's going to sit. With the block lined up, try and line up that hole here, so you can see right through to the other side. We'll take that bolt that was included. Getting down in there, started to tighten it up by hand. Comes with its own tool to help you go ahead and tighten it down, but I suggest getting a ratchet. It's going to make it go faster because it likes to catch in there and gets a little harder to turn. So this will help you get those turns out of it and tighten it down.Once you get that one tightened up, it's going to be the same thing all the other ones. So you just do it twice in each corner, and it's nice and tight. Overall I really liked the rails on a roof deck. I think it really adds to it. It does give it more of a cargo basket look, but that's more my style, so maybe that's why I like it more. Other than that, I think that does it for our look at the end or rails on our roof deck. Okay.

  • Roof Basket Recommendation to Replace Rusting Roof Basket
I'll be happy to recommend a replacement roof basket for your 2021 Toyota 4Runner! Since roof baskets are a larger item all of them will require some assembly and I've never heard of a single solid roof rack. The Rola brand is definitely more on the cost-effective end of things which is why you're seeing that rust issue this quickly. To avoid future rust issues I recommend going with an aluminum roof basket since aluminum won't rust. My favorite, and the one I recommend, is the Inno Roof...
