Weight Distribution for 2013 Toyota Higlander and Keystone Passport Express 195RB Travel Trailer

Question:

The 2013 Toyota Highlander V6 AWD with tow package is rated at 5000 lbs. trailer weight and 500 lbs. hitch weight. Would the Reese RP665588 be the appropriate WDS with sway control to pull a 2015 dual axle Keystone Passport Express Super Lite Travel Trailer 195RB that has a stated dry weight of 3651 lbs. and a hitch weight of 350 lbs. I plan to keep the actual trailer weight close to 4000 - 4200 lbs. with an actual hitch weight of 440 - 460 lbs. I have no intentions of loading this trailer to its maximum GVWR of 5200 lbs. Thanks.

It sounds as if you've got a very good idea of what you're needing, good work!

When you're determining the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer, don't forget to include the weight of anything carried in the cargo area of your Highlander behind the rear axle (see linked article.)

If you find that the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer doesn't exceed 500 or 550 lbs, the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System you referenced, part # RP66558 would be ideal for you.

If your trailer tongue weight is above 600 lbs (which could be possible if you tote enough stuff in the cargo area of the Highlander), you'd want to go with a slightly higher rated system like the 500-1000 lb rated system, part # RP66559. The kit includes a weight distributing shank, but you'll need the correct trailer ball, which are different than those used by the system mentioned above. For a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90 or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.
