Comparing Hanging and Platform Style Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks for a 2013 Nissan Murano
Question:
I recently purchased the hidden hitch from you and now need to purchase a bike rack for 2 bikes. Please advise what is best for my vehicle and in your opinion is the platform rack better then the upright carriers? I will be hauling a Mens and Womens bike.Pros and Cons of both style carriers. Thanks.

First, the pros and cons of each type of rack: hanging versus platform.
Pros for Hanging:
Lighter weight
Easier to store
Easier to install/remove
Less extension from back of vehicle
Cons for Hanging:
Not compatible with all bike styles unless using bike adapter bar
Can be difficult to load multiple bikes because of spacing
Have to lift bikes higher
Bikes can move if no anti-sway cradles
Pros for Platform:
Accept many different bike styles
Don't have to lift bikes as high and/or could potentially lift and secure one side at a time
Bikes are more stable than hanging
Less contact between rack and bikes
Cons for Platform:
Heavier
More difficult to store
Larger rack can be difficult to install/remove
More extension in most cases from rear of vehicle
Considering you want to carry a men's bike and a women's bike I recommend a platform rack. The Saris Freedom # SA4412B is not heavy at 22-1/2 pounds. It is not a large rack so it will not be too difficult to handle or store and it does not stick out all that far compared to some of the other options.
