Parts Needed To Install a 7-Way and Trailer Brake Controller On a 2002 Honda Civic
Question:
Hi, I have already installed a hitch on my 2002 Civic that I bought from your company and I use it all the time. My next step is to add a wiring so that I can run trailer lights. However, I know that step three I want to put brakes on my trailer and run a brake controller. I am having a hard time finding out if the wiring kit or tail light adapter is made redundant by the brake kit because if I can just buy one thing to get me ready for trailer lights and brakes, I’d rather do that. What would you recommend? Thanks, Rob

You are able to just install a 4-way flat at this time and then later install the components needed for a 7-way and trailer brake controller. But it may be best to just do everything at once since you are going to have to run a power wire to the vehicle battery with both the 4-way and 7-way.
First to determine which 4-way you need we need to know what body style you have. The coupe and hatchback version are going to use the 4-Way # C59236 while the sedan is going to use the 4-Way # C56341.
For a 7-way and brake controller you will want the Installation Kit # ETBC7 and I would recommend the Redarc Liberty Trailer Brake Controller # RED52VR as it only has a small dash mounted control knob. The installation kit contains all the wiring needed to install the brake controller and your 4-way will plug into the wiring on the 7-way.
