Parts to use a Class 3 or Higher hitch with a Class 1 or 2 Tow Load

Question:

Do you sell an adapter for my 2 x 2 receiver such that I can use your Code 36078 Ball Mount which has a 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 mounting extension or can I use my existing 1 7/8 dia ball with a 3/4 dia ball shank with your Code 2753 ball mount? What other options would you suggest since I am starting with a 2 x 2 receiver and will be pulling class II loads.

If you already have 1-1/4 inch ball mount that are the proper size for your trailer, you can use a reducer sleeve like part # HT02.

If you want to continue using the ball you have, you would need a ball mount with a 3/4 inch ball shank diameter hole, which will be Class 1 and 2 ball mounts and would again need reducer sleeve part # HT02.

If you have to buy a new ball mount since you switched to a 2 inch hitch and may need more drop, I would go ahead and buy a 2 inch ball mount and a 1-7/8 inch ball with a 1 inch shank. This way you have a heaver ball mount should you need the ability to tow a Class 3 or higher load. If a 4 inch drop is needed you could use ball mount part # 2753 and ball part # 19260.

We generally suggest avoiding adapters when possible. Usually they are the weak link in the system, in this case it is not as much of a problem, but as a rule of thumb, only use an adapter when there is no other way.
